Five days in Alsace, 45 wines tasted at 4 amazing wineries in the impossibly scenic villages around Colmar.. (And probably 45 more glasses drunk outside of the tastings! I am a professional!)

Severine Schlumberger is the coolest - I loved spending time with her, as we zoomed all over Domajne Schlumberger’s steep hillside vineyards. (If you haven’t watched Eva Longoria’s “Searching for France Alsace episode, drop what you’re doing and find it in HBO Max.)

Then spent a morning in Eguisheim with Valerie and Christian Beyer of Emile Beyer wines. The warmest people who farm biodynamically and produce gorgeous wines. (And Christian is restoring the ancient stone walls in the vineyard by hand!)

Also spent time with Georges Lorentz of Gustave Lorentz. They’ve invested a lot in a v modern winery facility and the wines show it. Plus, his daughter Clara is now the winemaker!

Our first tasting at Famille Hugel was a great orientation to the wines of Alsace. I am one lucky person. by @lizbchicago

Just so much fun with Carla Hall and her new baking book at Bookends & Beginnings. I can’t wait to wait to dive in. I luuuuv summer but baking season is here and I am psyched! Her take on baking is cool: she offers ideas for different types of flours, different types of sugars or sweeteners - for dietary reasons that don’t compromise flavor or texture. I call this the Fuzzy Buzzard and it is fucking delicious. Here’s what you do:
In a shaker with ice:
2 oz Buzzard’s Roost Signature Double Oak Bourbon .
2 oz peach purée (from The Peach Truck peaches!)
1/2 ounce of Appel’s Ginger Syrup
Dash of pecan bitters
Shake shake shake (put the shaker’s hat on first!)
Strain into a coupe and garnish with a peach slice

James Beard Foundation Culinary Impact Awards, featuring wines by Gerard Bertrand, one of France’s BEST wineries. I have been a fan for decades - organic and biodynamic farming + excellent winemaking make these wines an easy choice. Loved spending a bit of time with Monsieur Bertrand and the always-fun Regine Rousseau! Oh - and you know, the Bon Jovi’s, too. by @lizbchicago

As I was watching S2 Ep 4, I was sipping a glass of Dominio de las Abejas rosé of Nebbiolo & Grenache (50/50). And then!!! A Nebbiolo from Dominio de las Abejas is CALLED OUT. I was like, “Wait, what?! I’m drinking a wine from this somewhat obscure Mexican winery right fucking now!” Love this show and highly recommend wines from this winery in Baja California, Mexico. Santé!.
