Few places tell the tale of changing times quite like the former Manfredini Barracks in Cremona. Over the centuries, the site has served different purposes, spanning eras and undergoing profound transformations.

Today, this historic complex has been given a fresh lease of life as a university campus, with classrooms, laboratories, a library, an auditorium, student facilities and extensive green spaces intended for social interaction.

Lighting also plays a key role in bringing the campus to life. The project integrates a range of lighting solutions designed to guide people through the outdoor spaces while emphasising the identity of the architectural complex.

Among the products used are 𝗕𝗿𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 and 𝗧𝗮𝗴𝗼 for grazing illumination on the façades, and 𝗟𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗮𝗿 for pathways and gathering areas.

Where history meets the future.
Five centuries of history coexisting in a single setting. The Politecnico di Milano’s new Campus City of Cremona breathes fresh life into the former Manfredini Barracks, transforming it into a contemporary university hub dedicated to education, research and student life.

In this dialogue between historic architecture and new teaching spaces, light also plays a key role, guiding movement, enhancing the atmosphere of gathering points and helping create continuity between people, buildings and outdoor spaces.

In some contexts, it is not only environmental conditions that put a fixture to the test but also chemical and physical phenomena such as abrasion, the accumulation of aggressive substances and continuous stress. Over time, these can compromise even high-performance materials.
For these extreme scenarios, Luce&Light went beyond material selection to develop a treatment that further enhances resistance to wear and corrosive agents. This led to AC19®, the proprietary treatment developed for AISI 316L stainless steel.

In the lighting sector, the talk is often of lumens, optics and design. Much less is said about what really determines a fixture’s longevity: materials, surface treatments and testing.

But the real difference is measured in years: in a fixture’s ability to withstand humidity, UV radiation, salt spray, thermal shocks and chemicals over time without compromising its performance or appearance.

On the terraces overlooking the sea, water is one of Furore Grand Hotel’s most iconic features.

Here, lighting enhances the swimming pools and wellness areas through controlled, seamlessly integrated illumination that reveals reflections, frames perspectives and emphasises visual continuity towards the horizon.

As evening falls, light traces the contours of the pools, shapes the spaces dedicated to relaxation and creates an atmosphere steeped in the tranquillity of the Mediterranean landscape.

Designed by architect @fabriziafrezzastudio, Furore Grand Hotel spans nine terraces across eleven levels, following the contours of the coastline and overlooking the Mediterranean.

The lighting design decodes this complex layout using a coherent, contemporary language that defines pathways, surfaces, facades and outdoor areas. Light accentuates architectural forms and materials, improves the legibility of the spaces and guides guests around the property.

Set into the cliffs along the Amalfi Coast, Furore Grand Hotel unfolds across a series of terraces overlooking the Mediterranean.

As night falls and the colours in the landscape soften, lighting enhances the relationship between architecture, nature and the sea, creating visual continuity across pathways, gardens, pools and wellness areas.

Warm tones, carefully calibrated optics and discreetly integrated lighting fixtures shape welcoming, sophisticated evening ambiences.

In this project, light becomes an integral part of both the landscape and the guest experience.

Throughout the exhibition at the Vorres Museum, light does more than illuminate the artworks – it reveals their details, depths and contrasts, helping to create a more immersive experience for visitors.

Shadow-effect filters, gobos, Light Shapers, zoom lenses and Tunable White light sources shape both light and colour, creating an ongoing dialogue between artwork, space and viewer. Light interacts with each installation, revealing form, materials and texture while guiding the eye through the exhibition.

At the Vorres Museum, light guides visitors gently along its paths, creating evocative, immersive atmospheres that invite slow exploration of its landscapes.

Fragrant Mediterranean shrubs emerge gently from the darkness, while the pathways remain clear, welcoming and easy to navigate. Brass and stainless steel finishes blend harmoniously into the surroundings, echoing the site’s material palette and becoming an intrinsic part of it.

A discreet presence that enhances nature without ever overpowering it. 💫 🌿

When light becomes play.
At the Vorres Museum, a pathway illuminated by Intono B bollards with 2200K guided visitors towards a wall that appeared to conceal a passageway. Here, a Ginko 4.5 Light Shaper projected a large, light-filled labyrinth onto the wall, at whose centre a door opened, transforming a simple architectural surface into an invitation to discover the “secret garden”.

Beyond the threshold, visitors entered the Playing Yard, where light evolved from a tool for enhancing architecture and landscape into an element that actively engaged its audience, transforming their visit into one of hands-on discovery, play and participation.

Using several Ginko 4.5 projectors equipped with customised Light Shapers and gobos, the paving came alive with interactive projections. Coloured triangles, hopscotch, a chessboard and circular graphic compositions encouraged visitors to move, play and become part of the installation itself.

Light stopped being simply something to observe and became something to experience, transforming every movement into an interaction with the space. ✨

When light invites people to slow down and linger.
In the Vorres Museum gardens, the lighting took on a different quality, becoming softer and more relational. Here, it moved beyond scene-setting accent lighting to become a means of creating places where people could meet, inviting guests to pause and continue to enjoy the landscape as night fell.

Around the large central tree, DoReMi and DoReMi S transformed the space into a natural meeting point. Light enveloped the vegetation from multiple directions, creating a luminous composition that invited guests to stop, talk and share experiences.

Meanwhile, Pivot B spike-mounted projectors and 316L stainless steel Maris B bollards enhanced the Mediterranean vegetation while creating a continuous visual guidance along the path.
