Conway Summit is pretty hard to miss in fall. 🍂

Right off the road, the landscape starts lighting up in patches of gold, orange and green — almost like fall is creeping its way across the hillside, taking over one section before jumping to the next.

And that’s one of the best parts of a fall road trip down US 395. The drive is already an adventure, and then places like this show up as an added bonus along the way.

Sure, you can admire it through the windshield… but this one is worthy of a little pull-off-and-look-around moment. 📸

Because half the fun of cruising the High Sierra in fall is watching the season move across the landscape one colorful patch at a time.

There’s riding your bike a lot… and then there’s training for Rose to Toads. 🐸😆 #tamba

This summer has put some serious miles on both me AND the bike, and I’m pretty sure the bike has needed more professional help than I have.

Luckily, I’ve got my local shop @shorelinetahoe.

Shoreline has been one of Local Freshies’ biggest advocates and partners here in Tahoe for years, but for me personally, they’re also the spot I trust to keep my bike rolling when I’m doing everything possible to beat the 💀 out of it.

There’s something you just don’t get buying gear from a big-box store or clicking “add to cart” online. These guys know me. They know my bike. They know how I ride. And when something starts making a noise it definitely shouldn’t be making, I know exactly where I’m headed. 😂

Training for Rose to Toads has done a NUMBER on this bike. More than 2,500 miles in the saddle over the last two seasons, endless climbing, plenty of Tahoe chunk, and probably a few questionable decisions thrown in for good measure.

And somehow, Shoreline has kept the wheels on, everything shifting, stopping and running better than I ever would’ve expected through all of it.

They’ve never let me down when I’ve needed them, and I can’t thank the crew enough for everything they’ve done to get me and this bike to the starting line.

Now there’s only one thing left to do. Put both of us to work this weekend at Rose to Toads. 🐸🍻

Here’s to a killer ride on a bike tuned for performance… and hopefully a rider who’s ready to match it. 🤘 Travel is fun but this is my personal testament to support your local shops because they’ll be the ones there to pick up the pieces when you need them... not the interwebs.

There are people who become part of your adventure story… and then there are the people who helped teach you how to have the adventure in the first place. 🤘

@asingletrackmind goes WAY back with Local Freshies. Dylan was one of our earliest clients, but long before we were riding 1,000+ mile summers and tackling #mtb travel assignments… he was teaching us how to actually ride a mountain bike. 😆

Clinics. Skills sessions. Lots of miles. Even more photos. And probably a few questionable line choices along the way.

This summer has been one of our biggest riding season yet, with a local Tahoe event, Rose to Toads, looming large on the calendar for me. One final skills session with Dylan felt like putting that last ✅ on the training list.

Because here’s the thing about mountain biking or really ANY sport (snowboarding goes in this category just the same): you never graduate from learning.

Beginners have coaches. Pros have coaches. And somewhere in between, the rest of us should probably have one too. There’s always another skill to sharpen, bad habit to clean up, or that annoying tiny adjustment that suddenly makes something click.

Over the years, our relationship with Dylan and Amy has become about more than riding. It actually connects us more deeply to our trails, the people riding them and the whole community that keeps this crazy two-wheeled habit rolling. Oh and let’s not forget including plenty of quality time at @shorelinetahoe who keeps our bikes happy after miles of summer abuse. 😂🔧

Coach. Bike shop. Riding buddies. Trail community.

That’s really what it’s all about when you live in a mountain town. The adventures are incredible, but it’s the local network that makes a place feel like home.

👇 We want to know... who’s a big part of YOUR local riding crew? Is it the people or shops or local organizations that keep you learning, rolling, and stoked to get back out there?

The High Sierra has no shortage of great places to bike… but this spot is pretty sweet. 🤩

Raise your hand 🖐️ if you’ve ever explored the Volcanic Tablelands outside Bishop CA! Chidago Canyon and its incredible red rock brings the drama in the best way. Literally as you wind through sculpted rock, wild formations, desert-meets-mountain scenery, and colors that make you wonder if you accidentally pedaled onto another planet... Mars perhaps?

It’s unique. It’s beautiful. It’s absolutely worth the detour.

Next time you’re cruising through the Eastern Sierra, maybe throw your bike on the rack and add this one to the road trip plan. 🚲 Gravel or mountain... doesn’t matter which bike you pick. Just get those tires out to Chicago Canyon.

Soldier Mountain… not just a winter fling. 😉

We headed into the mountains of Idaho expecting a fun day on bikes and came away wondering why more people aren’t talking about @soldiermountain in the summer.

Big mountain views. Lift-served laps. Dirt under the tires. And that laid-back, no-frills mountain vibe we’re always chasing.

And this weekend is a VERY good excuse to see it for yourself. 👇

🎉 **Soldier Patio Picnic Party — August 16**
🚵 Lift-served mountain biking | 2–6:30pm
🎟️ $10 lift tickets
🍔 Community BBQ
🎶 Music + games + drinks | 2–8:30pm

Ride some laps, grab some food, hang on the patio and make a summer afternoon of it.

We also put together a full Soldier Mountain MTB guide with the trails, what to expect and why this little Idaho mountain deserves a spot on your summer road-trip radar. Find it through the link in our bio. 🤘

Who else has ridden Soldier in the summer?

Did you know you can claim your own little slice of Donner Lake for the day? ☀️💦

Along the north shore, you’ll find 37 public piers waiting for anyone who wants to swim, work that tan, SUP, jump into the lake or simply stretch out and enjoy the view. No reservation. No private lakefront home required. Just arrive early and find an open spot.

The docks are first come, first served. Many are even large enough to share! But please don’t leave gear overnight to “save” one, and remember to always pack out everything you bring.

Parking along Donner Pass Road is limited, so make sure you park completely outside the roadway and bike lane, watch for the posted signs or better yet, skip the parking hunt altogether and use Truckee’s free TART Connect service.

Pack those towels, snacks, sunscreen and something that floats. Your own Donner Lake dock day is calling!

Have you spent a summer day on one of the public piers? We want to hear about it. 😎

When it comes to outside endeavors, there’s a certain confidence that comes with knowing you’re the strongest rider in the group. But here’s the thing: you probably won’t learn nearly as much on that ride.

Back in our corporate days, executives loved to remind us that you never want to be the smartest person in the room. Surround yourself with people who know more, have more experience and challenge the way you think or everything just stays exactly as it is.

Turns out, the same idea can apply to #mountainbiking… just with more dirt and rubber attached. 🚵‍♀️ Thanks to @asingletrackmind @mountainpruf for reminding us of this fact.

Riding with someone a level, or many above you, can absolutely feel intimidating. But it can also open your eyes to new line choices, more complex features and possibilities you might never have noticed on your own.

And if all else fails, faster friends make excellent models for photos… even when you have zero intention of attempting what they just did on camera. 😆

New skills learned, new lines spotted or simply some killer photos captured, we call that a successful day outside however it plays out.

⁉️ What’s your opinion: do you like riding with people who push your skills, or does it make you too nervous?

And as a side note, anyone recognize this Tahoe trail? It’s definitely a favorite for training and wouldn’t be half as fun (or challenging) without @tambatahoe keeping it in tip top shape. 🙌

Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride 🐸 isn’t for everyone. And honestly? That’s part of what makes it so special.

Nothing about this legendary Tahoe trail comes easy. Even with a shuttle, you still have to earn the entrance. Then the trail slowly turns up the volume from forested singletrack and rock rolls to ledges, chunky rock gardens, awkward lines, The Steps, and the infamous Waterfall.

Mr. Toad’s doesn’t hand you one difficult feature and let you relax. It keeps asking questions.

Can you hold your line?
Can you stay loose when the rocks get bigger?
Can you recognize when to commit and when getting off the bike is the smartest move?

This trail has a way of showing you exactly where your riding stands. Maybe you clean a feature that once terrified you. Maybe you walk half the descent. Either way, you roll out the bottom knowing more about yourself as a rider than you did at the top.

And when you finally begin to flow with the rocks instead of fighting them... when the chaos starts to make sense and you become one with Mr. Toad... that’s when you know you’ve reached a new level of pedaling.

✋ High fives at the bottom are basically mandatory. Planning the next lap usually begins immediately.

Check out our full guide to Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride, including how to ride it, what to expect, the features that earned its reputation, and why it remains one of Tahoe’s greatest mountain bike rites of passage.

Find it in the LinkTree in our bio. 🔗

So... have you ridden Mr. Toad’s? What feature or moment do you remember most?

What happens when a ski town trades snowflakes for dirt spray? 🚵‍♀️💨

You get summer at Brundage Mountain… and one heck of a reason to point your next road trip toward McCall, Idaho.

Brundage brings a little bit of everything to the party: smooth, flowy laps the whole crew can enjoy, rocky side quests when you’re craving more spice, and big backcountry descents that just keep going… and going… and going.

Cruise Elk Trail. Test your line choices through Rock Garden. Drop into the rowdiness of Hidden Valley. Or make a full adventure out of the Brundage to Bear Basin shuttle and descend from wide-open mountain views into a forest that feels straight out of a fantasy movie.

And new for 2026? The Goose Creek Shuttle turns up the volume with more than 10 miles and nearly 3,000 feet of descending for experienced riders ready for mandatory features, technical rock gardens, and some seriously wild terrain.

But here’s the best part: the riding is only one piece of the McCall experience.

Cool off in Payette Lake. Soak tired legs in a hot spring. Grab a big post-ride meal. Then wake up and do it all over again. Because between Brundage, Bear Basin, Jug Mountain Ranch, and Tamarack, one day with your bike isn’t going to cut it.

We just refreshed our full guide to mountain biking at Brundage and spending summer in McCall. You’ll find the trails we rode, what to expect, where to stay, and plenty of ideas for turning a bike trip into a full-blown Idaho adventure.

Find it now through the LinkTree in our bio. 🔗

Even after living in Tahoe for years, we’re still finding new trails, fresh lines, and places that make us think, “How have we never ridden this before?” 🚵‍♀️

These sweet dirt pics are on Painted Rock, but that’s the beauty of mountain biking around the Tahoe Basin: there’s always more to explore. Some days call for a mellow pedal with friends. Others test your legs, lungs, and ability to keep smiling while climbing. And sometimes, a solo mission is exactly what you need.

We put together a full Tahoe mountain biking guide to help you find your next ride, whether you’re looking for cruisy miles, a bigger adventure, or somewhere completely new. You’ll find it through the link in our bio.

And when you need a rental, local trail intel, or a little love for your two-wheeled steed, stop by @shorelinetahoe in South Lake Tahoe. We’re in there all the time… talking bikes and buying parts.

What’s your favorite Tahoe trail? Share it below—unless it’s one of those trails you’re quietly keeping close to your tires. 😉 We get it...

Where do these stairs go? Up. Definitely up. 😅

But hear us out. These perfectly placed granite stairs is worth every ounce of sweat equity because they lead to one of those hikes where the scenery just keeps getting bigger, wilder, and more dramatic with every step.

Starting at Lake Sabrina, the trail climbs through aspens, wildflowers, shady forest, sun-soaked granite, bubbly water, and what feels like roughly one million hand-built stairs before Blue Lake finally comes into view. And trust us… that reveal is worth working for.

This is just a little taste of the adventure, but head over to the link in bio for our full Lake Sabrina to Blue Lake hiking guide — including what to expect, how tough it feels, and where to grab a celebratory bite and beer afterward.

Who’s ready to start climbing? 🥾⛰️ Let’s do it!

I WENT BACKPACKING! 🎒🥾⛺️

First time ever and it was an absolute blast.

I learned how to use a Jetboil, pitch my tent, organize my gear, and safely set up camp for eating, sleeping and, yes… 💩. I think my cathode digging skills improved dramatically. 😂 There is a surprising amount to think about when your home, kitchen, and bathroom are all strapped to your back!

And honestly? I probably never would have taken the leap without the Tahoe Rim Trail Association.

I’ve lived in Tahoe for more than a decade and spend a lot of my summers exploring the TRT, but I had no idea just how much the @tahoerimtrail organization offers. Guided hikes. Backpacking classes. Trail work days. Educational programs. You can even complete the entire TRT thru-hike with their support!

Having knowledgeable guides absolutely takes the stress out of the logistics and really gave me the space to learn, ask questions, and just enjoy my first night in the backcountry instead of wondering whether I was doing everything right or wrong.

I came home tired, dirty, stoked, and already thinking about my next backpacking adventure. Thank you TRTA for helping me finally take this step and for everything you do to maintain, protect and connect people with this incredible trail system. 💚

Anyone else remember their first night sleeping in the backcountry?
