Conway Summit is pretty hard to miss in fall. 🍂

Right off the road, the landscape starts lighting up in patches of gold, orange and green — almost like fall is creeping its way across the hillside, taking over one section before jumping to the next.

And that’s one of the best parts of a fall road trip down US 395. The drive is already an adventure, and then places like this show up as an added bonus along the way.

Sure, you can admire it through the windshield… but this one is worthy of a little pull-off-and-look-around moment. 📸

Because half the fun of cruising the High Sierra in fall is watching the season move across the landscape one colorful patch at a time.

Who’s down for an adventure on their mountain bike? Charity Valley trail checks some cool boxes. With slabs and views for days but also some serious overgrowth, it needs people riding and some work. But still fun to explore new trails. Video credit to @localfreshies

PSI check. 👀

Are you riding the pressure somebody told you to use years ago… or the pressure that actually works for you?

Rider weight. Terrain. Riding style. Tire setup. Rocks. Berms. Flow. They all matter.

Too firm and your tires can bounce across the trail instead of conforming to it. Softer lets the tire work with the terrain, but there’s obviously a limit before rims enter the conversation.

So what do you do?

There is no magical MTB tire-pressure number for everybody. You have to experiment. Pay attention. Learn what your bike is telling you.

And yes… we wrote an article called “Recommended Is For Suckers.” 😂 Because sometimes you have to question the number. We linked the article in our bio because we know you’re curious.

The High Sierra has no shortage of great places to bike… but this spot is pretty sweet. 🤩

Raise your hand 🖐️ if you’ve ever explored the Volcanic Tablelands outside Bishop CA! Chidago Canyon and its incredible red rock brings the drama in the best way. Literally as you wind through sculpted rock, wild formations, desert-meets-mountain scenery, and colors that make you wonder if you accidentally pedaled onto another planet... Mars perhaps?

It’s unique. It’s beautiful. It’s absolutely worth the detour.

Next time you’re cruising through the Eastern Sierra, maybe throw your bike on the rack and add this one to the road trip plan. 🚲 Gravel or mountain... doesn’t matter which bike you pick. Just get those tires out to Chicago Canyon.

Did you know you can claim your own little slice of Donner Lake for the day? ☀️💦

Along the north shore, you’ll find 37 public piers waiting for anyone who wants to swim, work that tan, SUP, jump into the lake or simply stretch out and enjoy the view. No reservation. No private lakefront home required. Just arrive early and find an open spot.

The docks are first come, first served. Many are even large enough to share! But please don’t leave gear overnight to “save” one, and remember to always pack out everything you bring.

Parking along Donner Pass Road is limited, so make sure you park completely outside the roadway and bike lane, watch for the posted signs or better yet, skip the parking hunt altogether and use Truckee’s free TART Connect service.

Pack those towels, snacks, sunscreen and something that floats. Your own Donner Lake dock day is calling!

Have you spent a summer day on one of the public piers? We want to hear about it. 😎

A smooth, flowy trail can make it easy to settle in, relax and enjoy the ride. But are you still riding with intention when rocks, fortified corners or unexpected features start popping up?

Riding relaxed is a good thing. Riding unfocused is another story.

Trails can change quickly, and getting caught off guard by a feature you didn’t see coming can turn a nice day outside into a rough one. Keep your eyes up, scan ahead and stay ready to adjust, even when the trail feels mellow.

The goal is to look relaxed because your core fundamentals are working, not because you stopped paying attention.

👉 Are you good at staying focused when the trail starts flowing?

Big granite features have a way of making you think twice. Some riders see the line and roll right in. Others take one look and decide, “Nope... not happening.” 😅

How do you feel when the trail opens up onto a big slab? Confident and ready, or immediately second-guessing every move?

If you’re not quite there yet, what feels like the missing piece? It is your vision, body position, braking, balance, line choice or simply trusting your skills?

The confidence to ride bigger features doesn’t come from being fearless. It comes from having strong core fundamentals you can rely on when the terrain gets spicy.

📣 Tell us: are you taking the slab or riding around it?

This weekend’s Women’s Trail College showed Panorama some lovin’😍🪨

These women practiced a variety of rock bar techniques, moved some seriously big rocks, and crushed granite to create rock crush for this week’s workshop: Rockwork

We also showed the gals different rock features used to reinforce steep, technical trail sections — giving them a better understanding of how sustainable, durable trails are built🌱

We celebrated with @portofsubs_southlaketahoe and @tahoepops to cool us down!

Don’t miss the final Women’s Trail College workshop this Sunday (7/25)⚒️ More info on our website.

I WENT BACKPACKING! 🎒🥾⛺️

First time ever and it was an absolute blast.

I learned how to use a Jetboil, pitch my tent, organize my gear, and safely set up camp for eating, sleeping and, yes… 💩. I think my cathode digging skills improved dramatically. 😂 There is a surprising amount to think about when your home, kitchen, and bathroom are all strapped to your back!

And honestly? I probably never would have taken the leap without the Tahoe Rim Trail Association.

I’ve lived in Tahoe for more than a decade and spend a lot of my summers exploring the TRT, but I had no idea just how much the @tahoerimtrail organization offers. Guided hikes. Backpacking classes. Trail work days. Educational programs. You can even complete the entire TRT thru-hike with their support!

Having knowledgeable guides absolutely takes the stress out of the logistics and really gave me the space to learn, ask questions, and just enjoy my first night in the backcountry instead of wondering whether I was doing everything right or wrong.

I came home tired, dirty, stoked, and already thinking about my next backpacking adventure. Thank you TRTA for helping me finally take this step and for everything you do to maintain, protect and connect people with this incredible trail system. 💚

Anyone else remember their first night sleeping in the backcountry?

Summertime views from the Thunder Mountain Loop ☀️🏴‍☠️

This 12-mile loop climbs up to Martin Point and along the ridgeline before dropping into Thunder Bowl. The descent is a fast-flowing singletrack with a variety of granite slabs, rock rolls, and other natural features.

Our friends at @localfreshies recently put together a detailed guide covering the route, trail conditions, and what to expect along the way. Read the full guide at the link in our bio.
