Multimedijalna umjetnica i performerica Ines Borovac @lochnesi kroz performans, instalaciju i participativne projekte istražuje odnose između tijela, tehnologije, tradicije i sustava moći.

Inspired by the parasitic logic of systemic violence, A Foreign Body examines the body as a site of infection, shaped and destabilized by the hostile conditions that produce somatic trauma. The work interrogates pathways through which violence embeds itself beneath the skin: in the belly twisting feeling of estrangement, the exhaustion caused by the constant state of fight or flight, the panic-attacking nausea, and the gag inducing apathy. These are symptoms, embodied consequences and the conditions of a body violently denied belonging. Concealed beneath the apparent neutrality of rules, laws, and social norms, systemic violence penetrates the body like a parasite, attaching itself like a tick, coiling through it like a snake relentlessly infecting new hosts. A Foreign Body exposes this invisible occupation of the body, revealing the violent and nauseating struggle of a body attempting to expel the parasite of systemic violence from its home.

Special gratitude to my amazing intern @mathildehatton for taking the photos and rehearsing with me ✨

As part of WHW Akademija’s autumn module in Bihać, this year’s participant, artist Ines Borovac, presented a performance inspired by one of her early works, A Girl, a Lamb and a Sacrifice.

Chopping up a spit-roasted lamb while reciting poetry about prey and predators, the performance reflects on tradition, sacrifice, and the communities shaped by these rituals.

In the gospels, the lamb that found itself too much among the wolves found the remedy was to become even more animals: “Therefore be as shrewd as snakes and as innocent as doves.” - Anne Boyer

New milky performative research for the upcoming project.

Ines Borovac is a Croatian multimedia artist currently based in Amsterdam. Drawing on lived experiences of Balkan traditions and the tension between Eastern and Western cultural frameworks, Ines uses her own body as a site where visible and imperceptible forms of violence and desire converge. Shifting between absurdism, vulnerability, spectacle, and roughness, her work materialises through live performances, multimedia installations, moving images, and performative objects.

"The driving force in my work comes from the belief that digital systems of control are often reconfigurations of existing traditional forms assimilating to the new context. The key to unlocking this connection is tracing how the symptoms of power are coded onto bodies. Thus, through my body and identity, I aim to demystify the complexities of power structures, rebalancing the power dynamic by displacing them in absurdist scenarios." IB

Soft Falls and Hard Truths
