I am reliably informed by folk that really
know these things that every room or area should have a focal point 😂 and not just a focal point but something that really catches your eye!

I can’t say I’ve ever wandered around Lockdown House asking myself, “What’s the focal point in here?” As those of you who know me understand- I never had a plan for any room- they just evolved! But once I started looking, I realised that I do have rooms that work because there is something that catches your eye first.

Sometimes it’s a colour, sometimes it’s a favourite piece—and sometimes it’s an entire garden room! And they are not always expensive- the wee red table is from facebook marketplace and I have used a @skye_paint tester to give it a new look!

The bathroom has me torn, though. Is it the wallpaper or the slipper bath?

So, these are some of my spaces
Which one catches your eye first—and what’s the your favourite focal point in your own home?

Cos the rooms or sides of rooms I have not included ..... well lets just say I am looking at then critically! Changes are coming!!! 😂
I am looking for inspiration !! taken in Glasgow, Scotland by @lock.downhouse

What can I say....

The 8th of April 2020 was the day it actually hit me that I had cancer and how scary and serious it was. They didn't know the growth was cancer let alone stage 3 when they operated in February. I woke up with a stoma and was just exhausted on discharge. The world then shut down for COVID and I was told I had weeks cancer later over the phone. It didn't seem real. I couldn't see anyone to talk about it. But when I had to go to hospital on my own on 8th April. It felt so real. I was honestly terrified. And my poor husband had to stay outside.

So this is a big day for me. The me 6 years ago would never believe how well I would recover. Physically and mentally. The me 6 years ago was a bit broken .

So I make no apologies for telling you all to check your poo. To go to the Dr! To get things checked. Its bowel cancer awareness month and I wish I had been that bit more aware. But cancer caught early can be treated.

So check everything! Do the tests! But most importantly live your life! Make those changes. Follow the dreams! Take up hobbies! Tell folk you love them! Say yes to the offers and opportunities. Paint your ceiling red! Just go for it! Don't wait until you are ill! Do it now!

And thank you to all of you - friends- family- followers-especially my own Geoff, Katie and Conor - but all of you. For all your support and friendship and encouragement. The whole experience has absolutely changed my life! And despite everything its been for the better. The me of 6 years ago would never have believed that!! We have our Silver Wedding anniversary this year and my 60th birthday too. I am looking forward to it all. This is my year of saying Yes!

So I have always bern open about this!
but folk still seem not to realise. And some folk think its my dark secret!!! 🤣

My home is full of Farrow and Ball colours
but its not Farrow and Ball paint! Not one single door or wall is actually painted in Farrow and Ball!

And the reason - well it was just a practical and simple one. The first big area we were having painted was the hall which you will know is pretty narrow. We had at that point a very young Fox Red Labrador - our Paco - who came in and shook and made marks on the hall wall every day.
And F and B does not have a good name for being scrubbable and washable and bring able to be touched up - and @crownpaintsuk does!

My decorator had recommended a colour match by @crownpaintsuk as a practical way to get the amazing colours but also get a washable finish! And when we saw the hall in Green Smoke it looked so good and did wash so well that we just stuck with @crownpaintsuk after that!

And what are my colours
So I have in my house

Brinjal ( Front door and dressing room ceiling ) Green Smoke ( Hall walls and ceiling)
Downpipe ( hall woodwork and doors)
Lichen - Dining kitchen
Studio green ( downstairs loo walls! )
Off Black - main bedroom walls, doors and woodwork,
Etruscan Red ( main bedroom ceiling)
Sulking Room pink - bedroom walls
Oval Room blue / colour drenched bedroom, pitch Black - bathroom panelling, doors and woodwork.
Railings- Dressing room door and woodwork

I really love the colours in my home! And I know some folk love the authentic Farrow and Ball which is totally fine. But Just in case you were concerned about the washable finish, or the coverage or being honest the price- I just thought I would let you know that colour matching is definitely worth considering!
I have actually recently colour matched Green Smoke using @skye_paint and its great too!
I know it's controversial for some folk- but it's just about which paint you want to use.

Did you know my home was all colour matched? Have you colour matched?
Would you consider it? Its just a choice- nothing to get too excited about! But let me know!

🍽️ When was the last time you really thought about your dining table?

Not just how it looks, but how hard it actually works. From family dinners and birthday celebrations to home working and the inevitable pile of things you’ll ‘deal with later’… it’s one of the hardest-working pieces of furniture in the house.

@lock.downhouse chats to interior designer @johnamabile about choosing a dining table that works for the way you actually live, before taking us into two West End favourites, @timeandtidestores and @basus.home for plenty of inspiration. 🏡✨

A wee wander round our living room 💙

Life is very busy just now. very busy!
So here is a wee look at some favourite living room shots!
All the same room, all the same Hague Blue, looking quite different depending on the light.

I love the dark walls with the warm wood, colourful cushions, flowers and lamps. Lots of things to look at. Collected over time!

Paco seems quite happy with it too… although his main interest is always getting the sofa to himself 😂

Are you a dark and cosy living room person, or do you prefer yours light and bright? taken in Glasgow, Scotland by @lock.downhouse

Three things I’d love you to know about coming to a Mingle 💚

1. You don’t need to work in interiors, have a home account or have thousands of followers. If you love homes and interiors, you’ll fit right in.

2. You can absolutely come on your own. Lots of people do, and we’ll make sure you feel welcome from the moment you arrive.

3. And yes, there are brilliant talks, lunch and lovely independent businesses to browse — but there’s also time to have a proper chat. It’s called a Mingle for a reason! 😄

The Jingle Mingle is at Arta in Glasgow on Saturday 14 November from 12 noon till 5 pm.
If you’ve been thinking about coming, I’d love to meet you there. We all would !!

Mingle events are friendly social events for Homes and Interiors enthusiasts !
The Ticket link is in the bio 🎄and will be on stories too! Go for it and if you have any questions comment below or send me a DM!

See you in November

I know we all moan about Instagram sometimes, I have done it myself recently- but I have to give it credit for introducing me to some fabulous small independent businesses . So I thought I would share a wee selection .

I’ve bought from every one of them, and quite a few of them I’ve gone back to again and again. So these really are my own recommendations.

@rebeccalawvintage upholstered the chair in the photo — and two more chairs for me.

@bycatriona painted that wee portrait of me- how good is that - and I’ve bought lots more of her portraits as gifts.

And Jasna of @littleplumproduction made the blind you can see here, plus another blind, bench cushions and a lampshade. I love Jasna!!

The two prints are by @jacquelinerooneyart who I have never met - she lives in Belfast - but who I enjoy a wee chat with on insta now and then and I know I am going to meet Jacqueline in real life one day!

my Hague Blue socket is from @chameleonincolour and has absolutely enhanced my Hague Blue living room. There will be more Hague blue help from @chameleonincolour !!

and @53interiorsglasgow made that fabulous pink fringed lampshade — as well as my gorgeous coat rack.

And @watersidehideaway is where I went to my first ever Christmas wreath-making workshop! I am booked again for this year!

I found them all through Instagram, and as a result of my @mingleandhome events I now know the lovely folk behind @watersidehideaway , @bycatriona and @53interiorsglasgow That’s one of the things I love most about @mingleandhome — finding these amazing creative folk and then getting to know the lovely people behind the accounts.

Oh and that first photo of me - taken by Anna @studiogently who I met at a great networking event by Marti @weebitsocial which was publicised on instagram too !

So this is a wee selection of businesses! There will be more! I hope you like them! Give them a wee follow! That means so much to small businesses.

And have you found a small business through Instagram that you now love? Tell me who they are!! So I can follow them too !! 😂 taken in Glasgow, Scotland by @lock.downhouse

Hello, I’m Anne Marie. If you don’t know me, I live in Glasgow and this is my living room 💙

Six years ago my house was all a bland, dirty magnolia colour. During Covid I decided to introduce some colour and, after much research, I painted the living room walls Hague Blue.

I won’t lie, I was terrified about how it would turn out! But it turns out I absolutely loved it.

About a year later, after a lot more thought, I felt very brave and went the whole hog. I painted the ceiling, windows and doors Hague Blue too 😂 This time I was beyond terrified. It felt so bold!

Since then I’ve loved adding pink and yellow as accent colours, and I love how it all looks together. So this is my colour-drenched living room, and now I’m obsessed with painting ceilings deep, rich colours!

Would you paint a room a rich blue? Would you do the ceiling and doors too?

Or would you go even darker? Did you know I have a black bedroom? 🖤

“Annalee wants her designs to help people feel confident using colour in their homes and believes our surroundings should bring us joy rather than simply follow trends.”

What a touching feature in @westendermagazine celebrating Solasta’s handpainted unique designs. I think our new Abbotsford wallpaper is a particular favourite! You can view all of our designs at solastahome.co.uk

So I am back from holiday and have been tidying - a lot!
Downstairs is now looking pretty good.
Let me tell you upstairs is a different story!

So here are a number of photos of my dining kitchen over the last 48 hours. The same corner of my dining kitchen, just in different light. The green on the walls looks different in every photo — and once the lamps and candles are on, the whole room changes again.

It’s why I always try paint samples at home and look at them throughout the day. A colour you love at lunchtime can look quite different by tea time! Thankfully I like this room in all the different lights so though I think lamps and candles in cosy season are my favourite!

For the record the walls are Lichen , the ceiling green smoke . And as you all know I do like a lot of pink with my greens!

So cosy season here we come!! At least one room is ready for you xxx taken in Glasgow, Scotland by @lock.downhouse

So here is a wee bit of my Hague Blue living room for the weekend 💕

I took these photos yesterday because the light was lovely and the room was looking particularly cosy. (I have been on a bit of a cleaning, tidying and rearranging spree this week!)

Looking at these, it turns out my signature style definitely seems to be dark walls, colourful cushions, old things, new things, books, art, lamps and lots of things I’ve collected along the way. Basically everything that makes this room feel like home to me.

And then I found the last photo… 😂

Same room. Same sofas. Same Jack Vettriano on the wall. But definitely not the same me when it came to interiors!

I think my house has got braver as I’ve got braver. And given that I started transforming this room without a mood board or much of a plan at all, I think I’ve done okay 😂

So I hope you enjoy my living room as it is now.

And swipe to the end for my Lockdown House before it really became @lock.downhouse ❤️ taken in Glasgow, Scotland by @lock.downhouse

What happens when you send a homes-and-interiors-obsessed, almost 60-year-old back to school? 😂

I spent the most inspiring morning at the beautiful @marhallresort whose interiors are just spectacular at the @johnamabile Design School!

There was gorgeous @timorous_beasties Beasties wallpaper everywhere I looked, a fabulous goodie box from @johnamabile and then the chance to create my own mood board with the loads of samples provided!

I loved mine—but, me being me, I was thinking about at least six different projects at the one time! 😂

I had such a fun morning learning from my friend and Mingle & Home Chief Mingler, the one and only John Amabile. He spent so much time with each of us individually, talking through our ideas and plans, as well as taking us through some very helpful slides filled with tips , ideas and information.

Would you go to design school for the morning?

It’s the sort of thing I would never have dreamed of going to in the past, but I’m so glad I did.

It was amazingly helpful and left me with all sorts of ideas for my home—probably far too many! Watch this space!
