Process of an engagement commission from last year that I made using a repurposed hanging glass sign ✨ first time trying out a reverse pictorial on glass, I felt like the location of this particular proposal was calling for it! Design inspired from vintage matchbox layouts and some other French packaging I had collected. Big congrats to @ruthlappin and @keet_hogan on their new home! 🙌🏻❤️

A tribute to a dear friend we lost recently. Julian commissioned me to to draw “Amor Fati” - 𝘓𝘰𝘷𝘦 𝘰𝘧 𝘧𝘢𝘵𝘦 last year after his diagnosis with MND. After coming across the phrase on the day of his diagnosis Julian decided that loving your fate is much more positive than fighting or resenting it, an insight I think we could all learn a lot from. With this Julian decided to make some merch for all his nearest and dearest. The man he was - a doer. Although sorrowful to see him gone, I find peace in knowing he’s catching up with Dad up there over a special bottle of red no doubt. Grá mór Julian, thank you for your kindness. 🤍 @costadeloro

Croí Community Series - Episode 12 @lockedletters

Loughlin (Lockie) Brady Smith is a Sign Writer, Designer and Lettering Artist based between Dublin and London.

Training as a graphic designer, Lockie instinctively took any opportunity he could to make and execute projects with his hands. Craft is patently partnered with design, and for Lockie, is as relevant as any other design practice to date. In a digital era the world needs as much paint as it can get!

Typography and lettering has had a grasp on Lockie for as long as he can remember, with his practice now spanning across illustration and decorative art. From hand-painted signs to murals and gilded windows, the charm in creating designs through the lens of craft is not only a necessity for him but is an essential element for the world in which we live in. Opposing practices of digital and analog now nourish each other, and that’s what makes work as engaging as it is.

Hayden’s grandfather Jim Cassidy was a signwriter back in Dublin and Hayden wanted to commemorate him by getting one of her best mates Lockie in to do some work when Croí first opened. The lettering on the door was the first step of creating the studio and we’re so happy our talented friend could paint it. Check out Lockie’s work around the studio and around London by following @lockedletters taken in London Fields, Hackney E8 by @lockedletters
