Photo dump from Letterheads’s 51 in Amsterdam last week. Wish I took more pics, but I talk too much! Such an amazing refresher to the soul and a strong reminder of what we all do this laborious craft for! Thank you again to the @amsterdamsignpainters for putting up an amazing event for a second time. Cheers to everyone until next year! #letterheads51 #letterheadsamsterdam #brushandleaf #signpainting #alwayshandpaint

Letterheads!!

Last weekend I went to Letterheads, this year organised by @amsterdamsignpainters, an event where signpainters come together, reconnect, paint together, learn from the masters during workshops and share the passion for the old craft of making handpainted signs.

Swipe for my attempt at a panel, practice sheets and some really inspiring work from others

I never would’ve thought this would be so inspiring, the people would be so kind and so supportive. Thanks to everyone I got to talk to, I had a wonderful time 🙌💛

Big big thanks to @vincentie, who shared all his knowledge and passion about signpainting. Without you I would’ve never ended up here!!

Looking forward to meeting everyone again at the next Letterheads :))

Croí Community Series - Episode 12 @lockedletters

Loughlin (Lockie) Brady Smith is a Sign Writer, Designer and Lettering Artist based between Dublin and London.

Training as a graphic designer, Lockie instinctively took any opportunity he could to make and execute projects with his hands. Craft is patently partnered with design, and for Lockie, is as relevant as any other design practice to date. In a digital era the world needs as much paint as it can get!

Typography and lettering has had a grasp on Lockie for as long as he can remember, with his practice now spanning across illustration and decorative art. From hand-painted signs to murals and gilded windows, the charm in creating designs through the lens of craft is not only a necessity for him but is an essential element for the world in which we live in. Opposing practices of digital and analog now nourish each other, and that’s what makes work as engaging as it is.

Hayden’s grandfather Jim Cassidy was a signwriter back in Dublin and Hayden wanted to commemorate him by getting one of her best mates Lockie in to do some work when Croí first opened. The lettering on the door was the first step of creating the studio and we’re so happy our talented friend could paint it. Check out Lockie’s work around the studio and around London by following @lockedletters

Jumping on the train to Amsterdam this week and getting all nostalgic about letterheads so thought I’d pop a few of these in the same place and share a bunch of old ones! Hit the limit of people in the tags but feel free to share about. Nicest group of white spirit soaked souls you’ll ever meet! Looking forward to having a good catchup with plenty old faces and meeting many new!
