Resin Study IV: Art Farm (2026) - 8" x 8" x 3"

Image 1: Front View
Image 2: Back View

Created during my two-week art residency at Art Farm in Marquette, NE. This is the busiest resin study I've completed to date. I did one pour every single day, slowly incorporating found materials around the farm into each layer.

I kept a meticulous log: what/where materials were used/found, when each pour happened, and what was running through my mind as I worked. Art Farm gave me the perfect space to scrounge, play in the dirt, and get inventive. The final form became a kind of personal eye-spy game, echoing those days of exploration.

Though I'll be steering my practice away from resin after this, I have enough materials for perhaps one more study like it. Now I wait for the right moment and place to make the final piece in this series. This was pure joy.

This is the head of a mosquito larva. Taking this particular set of images was a visceral experience. I did not know what this small creature was until researching it later. A strange wave of relief washed over me when I realized it was just a mosquito, immediately followed by confusion. I had a deep need to understand: why was I okay with killing this specimen for my art, but not something like a tadpole or beetle? This was a concept I found myself exploring near daily during my art residency. It sparked a domino effect of questioning my art practice. Intentionality of materials. The ethics of materials.

In a world where everything is at your disposal with a click of a shopping cart button, how do you harness the power of mediumship? I might have made that word up. This idea ate at me so much that I started writing art history papers again because I need to untangle and grapple inside this theme. I enjoy this process because it keeps me curious about everything I'm exploring, including my own thoughts and emotions. And yes, there were mosquitoes harmed in the making of this.

Resin Study III: Seasons Greetings (2026)

Created this piece earlier in the year but didn't get around to documenting and posting until after the art residency.

8" x 8" x 3" Cast Resin - other materials used include found objects, organic material (pinecones, lime wedge) and a digital photograph I took probably a decade ago.

Here are a handful of photos from my contribution to The Museum of Alternative History Exhibition, now on display at Pottawattamie Arts, Culture & Entertainment (PACE) in Council Bluffs, IA. The show will be on display until January 30th, 2027.

What would you do if you could no longer throw anything away?
