I joined Long Angle last month and did what I tend to do when I decide something is worth doing: I dove in with both feet. 😂

Their Annual Retreat was coming up, and I figured there was no better way to understand the community than to put myself in the room, meet the people, and learn.

I’m so grateful I made that investment in myself. I left with new friendships, pages of notes, and a lot to think about. A few takeaways:

✨ What you measure shapes how you live. We track revenue, net worth, productivity, sleep scores... but what would change if we also measured what makes life feel rich? Time with people we love. Movement. Experiences. Joy.

✨ Beneficial > optimal. Sometimes searching for the best answer keeps us from taking action on a really good one. This applies to health, investing, business, AI, and life.

✨ AI should give you time back, not become another job. Start small. Give it context. Treat it like a junior team member. And don’t spend three hours building an automation to save ten minutes. 😂

✨ Beware of FOMO disguised as opportunity. This especially resonated with the investor in me. You don’t need to chase every new investment or trend. Discernment matters.

One of the things I’m most grateful for in this chapter of my life is access to rooms like this, learning from incredibly smart, accomplished people who continually expand the way I think about business, investing, health, relationships, and life.

And I don’t want that access to stop with me.

That’s a big part of what ReAligned Collective is all about. ❤️ Giving our community a behind-the-curtain look at the best practices, ideas, tools, strategies, and patterns I’m learning across the rooms I’m fortunate enough to be in, then helping people actually apply them to their businesses and lives.

Because you shouldn’t have to be in every room to benefit from the lessons coming out of them.

If If you’ve already built a level of success and you’re thinking about what your next level looks like, in business and in life, come talk to me about ReAligned. Let’s build a life that’s successful by your definition, and designed around what matters most to you. taken in Hyatt Regency Lost Pines Resort and Spa by @longanglehnw

There's nothing like a blue sky afternoon on Lady Bird Lake (and in Austin, a little bit of cloud coverage is never a bad thing!) 🐟💙☁️

We had a blast organizing a day on the water with our friends at @fifthstreetdmc for the Long Angle Annual Retreat @longanglehnw in partnership with @austinrowingclub 🚣🏻

Whether it’s your first Long Angle retreat or you’re coming back to experience it all over again, one thing becomes clear pretty quickly: there’s no substitute for being together in person.

The conversations go deeper. New relationships form. Familiar ones get stronger.

It’s a reminder of why building meaningful, lasting connections is at the heart of the Long Angle community—and why our members look forward to these retreats year after year. by @longanglehnw

What happens when your finances are solved for?

For many members, the harder decisions arrive after the number is reached. This week, Sahil Bloom is our keynote speaker at the Long Angle Retreat in Austin. His book, The 5 Types of Wealth, offers one answer: money is only one kind of wealth, and it works best as a tool for building the other four.

Time: control over your schedule and how you spend your days
Social: the depth of your relationships with family, friends and peers
Mental: curiosity, resilience and room to keep learning
Physical: the health that everything else depends on
Financial: security and the freedom to choose how you live.

If your finances were solved for tomorrow, which of the other four would you start building first? by @longanglehnw

"Sometimes strangers become the closest vault in your life."

Kiri has spent two decades building communities. Money was still the hard subject: "it took me a long time to even feel comfortable talking about finance or money with my peers or my friends."

Trusted Circles changed that. A small group of members with "similar life experiences," meeting with "a professional facilitator," in a setting Kiri describes as safe enough to "really really dive in deep."

The name mattered too, because "trust is everything." The people in that circle became, in Kiri's words, "soul brothers."

From someone who builds communities for a living, the summary of the membership is short: "witnessing what's possible in a community."

"Finance does a great job in pigeonholing you."

Oliver Wriedt built a career getting "really really good at a really really small spectrum of things." That is how the industry works. It is also the reason he joined Long Angle.

What he gets here is breadth. "Members with so many different backgrounds" who can "help underwrite opportunities" and weigh in on a deal as former operators in that exact corner of the market. And members who have built companies and sold them, whose stories are the part he says he has been "most interested in."

He also credits Long Angle with surfacing managers in the parts of the private markets that matter most to him.

His own summary of the membership: "compare notes on our respective portfolios, compare notes on the state of the world," and "meet interesting new people."

"You can't put a price on that."

Frederick is talking about the forums. Once people figure out you have been through an IPO, he says, the pitches come "pretty hot and fast."

What he found at Long Angle was the opposite: "Being able to consult with people in a strictly confidential mode" and knowing no one on the other end is selling anything.

He came in curious about investing, asked around in a Slack channel at work, and someone pointed him here. A conversation with Tad later, he was a member.

The result, in his words: "much more confident in being able to make investments and do due diligence."

Members on the forums, advisors who help "cut through the noise," and a team he calls phenomenal. That is what he says the membership has given him.

This is the team behind the Retreat, photographed at last year's gathering in Sonoma.

Planning for Austin started almost as soon as Sonoma ended. The venue is booked and the sessions are set. What we are most excited about is the part we cannot plan: members meeting in person, picking up conversations that started online, and making new friends over three days.

What are you most excited about?

We'll see you this weekend, Austin. by @longanglehnw

The dinner was supposed to be on the lawn.

By the afternoon that plan was gone, so we called a friend. The friend said yes, opened the gates of their vineyard, and told us to bring everyone.

So we did. Members walked the rows with their spouses and friends as the sun set, glasses in hand, music playing late into the night. The wine came from that friend's own vines. It was the kind of evening that makes you appreciate the finer things, and somehow everyone felt right at home.

Nothing about it was in the run of show, and it turned out to be the most beautiful night of the entire Retreat. People come to Long Angle for the questions. They stay for nights like this, and for the people standing next to them in these pictures.

Guy Raz has spent years asking founders how they built what they built. During last year's keynote, Guy didn't just ask us how we built our community, but why. His session came down to one message for the room: community is becoming more important right now, not less.

It was his first time with Long Angle members in person, and what came through was how much the mission of the community resonated with him.

The questions that matter most at this stage of a career rarely have a searchable answer. Which estate attorney you would use again. Whether to pay off the mortgage after a liquidity event or keep the money invested. How to talk to a teenager about the family's money.

Those answers live with people who have already made the same decision, and finding those people gets harder as the decisions get more specific.

That is the premise Long Angle is built on. A vetted community of high-net-worth founders, executives, and investors comparing notes, with no one in the room selling anything.

The Retreat is where that community meets in person, and we can't wait. This year's keynote speaker gets announced in the next few days. by @longanglehnw

"It's not about us."

That was Kai Ryssdal's answer at last year's Retreat in Sonoma when a member asked what a room of people with money and access should do about the direction of the country.

He started with a reality check. Inflation could climb, mortgage rates could push past seven percent, and everyone in that room would complain and then be fine.

Consumer confidence had dropped again that morning, and in his reading, "it's not because of us, the people in this room." It was the lower third of the income spectrum. "They are really struggling out there."

Twenty-five years of hosting Marketplace have left him with one refrain: "the more things change, the more they stay the same."

Companies gain power, the wealth gap widens, and the recovery splits into a K. The people on the upper arm of that K are not the ones the confidence numbers describe.

His suggestion for the room was the question he asks himself on his morning trail runs: what more can I do? He pointed to a member he had met at dinner the night before, who used his exit to start a nonprofit for sober entrepreneurs.

Retreat firesides run like this. by @longanglehnw
