Debris from the heavily damaged Long Beach Peninsula is now washing up miles away, including a large piece of the destroyed boardwalk found near Belmont Pier.

Weeks of powerful surf and unusually high tides have torn apart sections of the boardwalk and protective seawall, while severe erosion has washed away much of the beach that once protected the shoreline.

Now, pieces of wood, plywood and other wreckage are scattered along the coastline, with some debris containing exposed nails and sharp edges that could pose a danger to beachgoers.

As Long Beach begins recovery and repair efforts, cleanup remains another major concern, with debris continuing to turn up far beyond the original destruction. taken in Long Beach, California by @longbeachclassic_

Construction is underway in Downtown Long Beach as crews prepare for the return of Formula Drift on October 23 and 24.

The two-day event, known as the Shoreline Showdown, will serve as the final round of the 2026 Formula Drift PRO Championship, where drivers will compete for the season title.

The event will transform part of Downtown Long Beach into a temporary drifting course, bringing racing, tire smoke, and thousands of fans to the waterfront. Residents and drivers should also expect road closures and traffic impacts around the event area. taken in Long Beach, California by @longbeachclassic_

Southern California is seeing renewed immigration enforcement activity, with videos circulating on social media showing federal agents conducting arrests across the region.

Recent reports have also revealed a possible 45-day immigration enforcement campaign known as “Operation Safe California,” reportedly involving hundreds of ICE agents deployed throughout Southern California.

Community organizations and residents have been documenting reported ICE activity, sharing videos, warning others, and raising awareness about arrests taking place in their neighborhoods.

The renewed enforcement activity also raises concerns ahead of Long Beach’s upcoming Día de los Muertos Festival on November 1 at Rainbow Lagoon.

Last year, the city canceled its Día de los Muertos festivities over fears surrounding immigration enforcement. Now, with the celebration returning and ICE activity continuing across Southern California, questions about community safety are resurfacing.

Should Long Beach move forward with this year’s celebration, or are the same concerns that led to last year’s cancellation still present? taken in Long Beach, California by @longbeachclassic_

Some homes on the Long Beach Peninsula are practically sitting in the ocean at this point.

The worst damage is around 64th and 65th Place, where powerful waves have completely destroyed sections of the boardwalk and seawall. There’s now nothing separating some of these homes from the ocean, and every time high tide rolls in, the water comes right up to them.

So far, eight buildings containing 13 homes have been red-tagged, with some already suffering serious damage.

With each high tide, more sand and debris continue to wash away. Some of these homes look like they’re barely hanging on, raising concerns that parts of them could eventually collapse into the ocean. taken in Long Beach, California by @longbeachclassic_

Long Beach’s Surveillance Network Is Bigger Than Just Flock Cameras

As residents push to remove Flock cameras over privacy concerns, ICE, and fears of Big Brother surveillance, Long Beach already has an extensive camera network that many residents may not know about.

The Long Beach Police Department has operated a surveillance network for over a decade. By 2014, approximately 750 cameras were connected, including cameras in public areas and privately owned systems. Businesses can voluntarily give police remote access to their cameras, allowing authorized personnel to view live footage without visiting the property.

The department also launched its Real Time Crime Center in 2025, bringing together surveillance technology and real-time information to help monitor incidents across the city. Long Beach has continued pursuing additional camera technology, although the total number currently accessible to police remains unclear.

And concerns about information sharing have a real precedent. In 2020, the Los Angeles Times reported that Long Beach police had given ICE access to automated license plate reader data for approximately ten months. The department acknowledged the incident.

These systems can help investigate crimes, identify suspects, and improve emergency response. But they also raise serious questions about government surveillance, who can access the information, and how easily that information could end up in the wrong hands. taken in Long Beach, California by @longbeachclassic_

Wow, what a difference! 😳 Remember the old Ports O’ Call Village in San Pedro? Well, it’s not even called that anymore! It’s now West Harbor, and the waterfront along the Los Angeles Harbor looks completely different following a massive redevelopment!

What do you think of the transformation? Do you like the new look, or do you miss the old Ports O’ Call? taken in San Pedro, California by @longbeachclassic_
