If you missed last month’s sold-out exhibition, or want to see it again, check out our recap of “A House Is Not a Home” above. We were proud to welcome thousands of visitors to our pop-up exhibition home that ESSENCE said “made the gallery itself feel like a home.”

‘The Three Graces’ (2026) by Alexandria Smith is now on view through November 15, 2026 at Long Gallery Harlem.

🖤

Alexandria Smith was seated at her dining room table when a copy of June Jordan’s ‘Directed By Desire’ (2005) arose from its slumber on an adjacent bookcase, sprouted wings, soared off the shelf, and landed squarely on her shoulder. “I believe in spirits and ghosts … June definitely knocked the book off the shelf,” she remembers. And so begins the origin story of ‘The Three Graces’ (2026), a research-based drawing Smith compose in response to June Jordan and Buckminster Fuller’s ‘Skyrise for Harlem’ for Jupiter Issue 007: Architecture.

As part of Long Gallery Harlem’s Art In The Window series, this installation physically embeds ‘The Three Graces’ within the architectural landscape that Jordan was so intent on reimagining. taken in Long Gallery Harlem by @longgalleryharlem

Speaking of Harlem, congratulations to Lewis Long of Long Gallery Harlem for a creative and timely exhibition on Wing Road in Oak Bluffs from August 1- 23. Entitled A House is Not a Home, a group exhibition that received some 2,000 visitors during their stay. The exhibition traced several decades of America’s 250-year history and featured artist and co-curator Taylor Thomas presenting some 25 artists within the context of a residence rather than a gallery. This conveyed a more intimate space asserting home and identity inspired by family and personal lineage. Congrats and looking forward to 2027! @vineyardgazette #richardtaylor 🙏🏾 taken in Oak Bluffs, Martha's Vineyard by @longgalleryharlem

Only a few days left to see the exhibition “A House is Not a Home”, and we are elated to share two new works by artist Calida Rawles. These final two additions depict Black people’s complex relationship with water. The Transatlantic slave trade, environmental racism, and historical exclusion from public bodies of water marks our highly charged relationship with water. Rawles reflects this history as well as the healing and spiritual properties of the element. By reflecting upon both, she imagines new possibilities.

Tickets to the exhibition are sold out through our run on Martha’s Vineyard. For sales inquiries and to stay connected to the gallery, subscribe to our newsletter and contact us through our link in bio.

As we prepare for our final days of the exhibition “A House Is Not a Home”, we proudly present the artist Ashanté Kindle — with two new works added to the exhibition. Kindle’s additions to the show highlight the joy of having Black hair, evoking childhood memories of the communal aspect of visiting hair salons and barbershops.

Black women have always been asked to carry. To endure. To perform strength, while rest and joy are optional.

Black Women Resting is an exploration of the importance of rest and joy. . What does it look like when Black women choose themselves? The conversation moves through statistics, lived experience and audience participation.

Attendees will be treated to a curated walkthrough of A House is Not a Home, including the Black Women Resting visual essay.
