Audiobook 193… 10/15/26…. Finished this lil goodie yesterday…. Very sad indeed… I remember watching the movie a long time ago, which is probably why I hadn’t pushed this book to the front of the Jodi line, but after Hollow Bones referenced the family I had to!! It’s just as sad as I remember!!! Great book!

Audiobook 193… 10/14/26… I really enjoyed this book! It reminded me a little of Wally Lamb’s “The Hour I First Belived” by having real life tragedies play in to the story. As well as super relevant and current events and creating a space where they all mesh together in to a really great book!! So much so that after finishing this one it was only right I started “My Sister’s Keeper” since I hadn’t read it before!!! I’m definitely a Jodi fan! 🙌🏾

Audiobook 192…10/12/26… needless to say I didn’t know much about the IRA in Ireland but this was insightful…. So sad… and such a scary time to live through. I felt so bad for these children. Patrick Radden Keefe really has an excellent way of making nonfiction situations read like tragic fiction books and I love that!!! He really does a deep dive in to the people and history surrounding these stories and still keeps it emotional enough to pull at your heart strings!!

Audiobook 191… 10/09/26… I have questions 🤔 why was everyone so mad that they believed Rasputin was keeping the heir alive? They all wanted an heir so bad after 4 daughters and now if the family believes he’s keeping him alive, what’s the issue with that?? Why not just be happy to keep the heir healthy and alive? On top of the fact he never claimed to be to able to cure anyone, especially kids. So it was possibly all just a placebo? So I truly don’t understand why Alexandria believing in him created such an uproar…
Also, how did so many people say god spoke to them about Rasputin being of the devil but can’t just believe that god also spoke to rasputin and he’s some kind of holy man? Like how and who decides if god is speaking to people or not? Why isn’t it like he’s speaking to everyone or no one?
If so many people believed in him and had prayers come true or whatever he did for them, why was it so hard to believe it was true?? Like how did it actually negatively affect anyone? What devilish, demonic or cursed things actually happened to make people think he was working for the devil?? What destruction of Russia was because of Rasputin?? Seems like they kept thinking he was going to destroy them but he never did lol like nothing he did caused anything they thought it would cause…🤔 for years and years he was just traveling and healing and doing readings and praying for people…. I feel like if he wanted to destroy things he had plenty of time and opportunity to do it 🤷🏾‍♀️ why does being able to dilate your pupils at will automatically make you “a criminal degenerate”?? 😩😂 plus as wars were growing all around Rasputin was one person very vocally against it!!! That doesn’t seem like an evil devil person to me 🤷🏾‍♀️ a lot of this was notes I was making in real time while listening so that’s why it’s all over the place and there was so much more but too big to be put in this caption. 😂 essentially, he was holy. He was evil. He was nothing. He was the second tzar. He was just a peasant. He was a rich conman. He was a sloppy drunk. He was a happy drunk. He was a womanizer. He was happy. He was angry. He was everything! 🤷🏾‍♀️

Audiobook 190… 10/05/26…
What?!?! Omg… the fact I knew nothing about these girls definitely made this an interesting listen! I was anticipating hearing about these girls being married off for political power, or something along those lines…then the struggles with their long awaited brothers health came in to play so I assumed they would take over for their parents or something like that… I was not at all expecting their family to be overthrown and then put on house arrest, which was basically like becoming political prisoners, then exiled and executed… what in the world…. Fascinating and captivating to listen to… but so heartbreaking and tragic…. This is another nonfiction book that has completely taken over my google searches!!! (P.s I’m literally just NOW seeing even the title says “the lost lives…” 🤦🏾‍♀️ I completely had no idea what was coming to these girls, but that worked to my listening advantage.)

Audiobook 188… 10/01/26… OBSESSED!!! This book has fully taken over my google searches the past 2 days!!!!! I found this book to be so fascinating!!! Not in a this is so cool way, but in a how in the world did this happen kind of way!!! One family had 12 kids, 10 boys, 2 baby girls. In a span of 20 years. 1945-1965…. And in the 1960’s and 1970’s 6 of their 10 sons were diagnosed with schizophrenia!!!! I thought this book did a great job of telling this family’s story and mixing in actual scientific facts, research, and evidence. This family even becomes part of the history of the research on what could cause this and what can be done to medicate it. A lot of people online had a problem with this book saying it puts a stigma on schizophrenia, because these boys were a little chaotic, violent, and even some ped stuff happened. But I didn’t feel that way at all. I didn’t get the message that the author was saying these traits are the traits of everyone with schizophrenia. I definitely got the vibe that this author was telling the experiences of this family. Just what was happening with them specifically. And how this family was able to provide so much in the way they conducted research studies. At points I felt so bad for each and every one of the 12 members of this family!!! They all had their very own struggles dealing with this! The parents, watching one after another of their sons change at a time when these things weren’t talked about and there was very limited medical options for help. All the way to the 2 baby girls of the family growing up with 6 sick older brothers and being over looked, abused, and scared every day. The four boys without it, watching their brothers change and hoping it doesn’t happen to them. And of course the affected boys. They just slowly lost control of themselves. This is still a very complex diagnosis today, so I can’t imagine what this would have been like back then. I will be thinking about this book and this family for a very long time. Also, I know a hundred times more about schizophrenia than I did a few days ago! I love that.

Anyone read this book?? How did you feel about it???
