When I was starting out as an art student, I used to dream about having a body of work. That was all I really wanted, to have a collection of work that represented my tastes and ideas and showed what I had done.

This month marks 12 years of working professionally and while I feel like I’m just getting started in some ways, it’s a good feeling to look at all of these pieces and remember when something like this was just a pipe dream.

Here is a better look at the script that I drew as a gift for the Canadian Typography Archives. I wanted to create something that paid homage to the ways that some of the work from the archive was created and so a spencerian script felt like the right direction.

Designing these scripts can be like solving a puzzle; all of the pieces have to fit together and balance comfortably and it can take a lot of trial and error to get there. It’s funny trying to make something that is very labour intensive look light and free flowing but that is ultimately the goal.

Here is a better look at the three rough logotype concepts I presented for Montreal-based @camsdejeuner .

In hospitality branding I will often explore script lettering because their warmth and expressive personality lend themselves well in the setting. In this case where the name is short however, I preferred the look of the heavy geometric block letters with tight spacing (and so did they!)

To celebrate the start of summer, I’m happy to share a second collection of Brazilian music titled ‘Still Lost in the Paradise’. This one follows my first playlist from 2020 and highlights the amazing music coming out of Brazil in the 1970s.

The 60s and 70s were an incredibly rich period in Brazilian music, shaped by political unrest, a military dictatorship, and the rise of Tropicália. Artists were blending psychedelic rock, samba, funk, soul, jazz, and folk and filtering it all through their own tropical lens.

It’s music that can be beautiful, weird, hilarious, rebellious, and ridiculously funky — sometimes all in the same song. Happy first day of summer and hope you enjoy, the link is in my bio 🇧🇷🌞 by @looknorrad

Here is a re-creation of a vintage Gitanes cigarette ad by Hervé Morvan for a @gitanes project. The work of French illustrators like Hervé Morvan and Raymond Savignac has been very influential to my work for Gitanes so this was a fun exercise/homage. Their design sense and ability to create fun, sophisticated images with only a few colours and textures is something I admire very much. by @looknorrad

I finally got my hands on a shirt I designed for Narcotics Anonymous which features one of their perfectly blunt program slogans “Misery is Optional”. They gave me a few to choose from but I loved this one so much it was an easy decision. I imagined this guy on the back as someone who opted out of a life of misery and is free to enjoy the peace that comes along with that 🌞🌴 by @looknorrad
