Laptop repair in space, illustrating some of the joys and challenges of working in microgravity. At the end, the cover gets caught in airflow from a vent and starts to take off, showing how quickly things can disappear on station if you aren’t paying attention! by @loralohara

Last week I joined four pals and climbed Cathedral Peak in Tuolumne Meadows. So great to be back on the stone with close friends @jib.ellison , @loralohara and @timmyoneill and Earl Alderson, with Timmy and Earl rope-gunning for the old dog. It was Loral’s first multi-pitch climb. I met Loral when she reached out after reading my book Life Lived Wild and wanted to connect. Not that easy as she’s an astronaut and was reading the book from the International Space Station. NASA made it happen, and we had a great hour-long Zoom while she literally floated around showing me the ISS. Photos by Timmy, Loral and Earl. by @loralohara

@nasa’s Artemis 2 launch is here! Full coverage starts TODAY at 12:50 ET on NASA+, YouTube, and Amazon Prime. Launch is targeted for no earlier than 18:24 EDT with a launch window of two hours.

Snapped this video a few days ago on a pad drive-by shortly after arrival with the crew families (shoutout to local radio for the vibes). Impressive doesn’t do it justice.

During our training as @nasaastronauts we spend time in Star City. We live in cottages on-site during that training. All of our crews come through here. Here is a tour from those cottages to the gates. by @loralohara

Very happy for my good friend and epic human @jonnykimusa, who launched on 8 April alongside his wonderful crewmates Sergey Ryzhikov and Alexey Zubritskiy to start their 8 month mission on the @iss. Loved seeing the great dynamic the crew had together, some dear friends and places I hadn’t seen since before my own launch, and, most of all, getting to share the experience with Jonny’s family and friends. Rocket launches are always cool, but they are really something special when you have loved ones onboard. Feeling proud of our international team, amazed at what humans are capable of, and grateful to be part of something that brings people together and draws out the best in us.

It’s a rainy Monday here in Houston and I am back in the office after many weeks away traveling for @nasaastronauts appearances and personal leave. My commute to @nasajohnson isn’t bad, but this one was better!

Onboard @iss, we got to work with several different commercial payloads investigating space-based methods for manufacturing advanced fiber optic cables. One of the payloads involved gathering these briefcases containing samples and hardware, and it cracked me up every time I translated to and from the worksite with them. by @loralohara

27 August 2023: my last day of completely unscheduled freedom before we flew to Baikonur for quarantine and launch. I bought some of my favorite snacks from my favorite market and mountain biked (very carefully) up to my favorite lake to swim.

Now @astro_pettit and his crewmates Alexei Ovchinin and Ivan Vagner are in Baikonur getting ready for their launch on 11 September 2023 at 12:23:19 ET! taken in Star City, Russia by @loralohara

A little glimpse into our space gym on @iss 🏋️‍♂️🏃‍♀️🚴‍♀️

We get 2.5 hours of exercise scheduled daily, usually around 60 minutes of weightlifting and 30-50 minutes of cardio (running or cycling). While any exercise program has its challenges, I found it really enjoyable to have the opportunity to load my body up everyday and zone out a bit listening to music or podcasts, reading, studying for upcoming events onboard, and hanging out in cupola looking at station and the planet in between sets.

One thing I did not expect to see from space: the world’s fishing fleets. The multicolored arrays of light on the water are fishing boats. These are only two of many hot spots – the Arabian Sea along India’s west coast, and the Gulf of Thailand and Andaman Sea, divided by Thailand and Malaysia. Clusters of lights in the darkness depict fishing fleets as seen from space. by @loralohara

Crop circles are ubiquitous around the planet, and some of the most eye-catching ones are found far from any obvious signs of water - like these in central Saudi Arabia on the edge of the Rub’ al Khali desert. Dark hued crop circles are seen scattered throughout a beige landscape in this photo taken of the Earth from the International Space Station. by @loralohara
