NASA Astronaut. Lived and worked onboard the International Space Station as a member of Expedition 69/70.

POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Last week I joined four pals and climbed Cathedral Peak in Tuolumne Meadows. So great to be back on the stone with close friends @jib.ellison , @loralohara and @timmyoneill and Earl Alderson, with Timmy and Earl rope-gunning for the old dog. It was Loral’s first multi-pitch climb. I met Loral when she reached out after reading my book Life Lived Wild and wanted to connect. Not that easy as she’s an astronaut and was reading the book from the International Space Station. NASA made it happen, and we had a great hour-long Zoom while she literally floated around showing me the ISS. Photos by Timmy, Loral and Earl.

Studying geology is crucial for space exploration missions. 🪨

As part of a geology training with NASA in New Mexico, USA, we learned about different rock types, including volcanic, sedimentary and metamorphic rocks, while also studying the geological history of the region.
This training enables us to better understand the geology of future destinations we may explore.

It was an honour to carry the @rcgs_sgrc Compass Rose Flag with me on another northern expedition and to present @astro_watkins and @loralohara with something to remember this trip by 😀#kamestastin2025

A high point of our #kamestastin2025 training expedition: a visit to the Natuashish school where @loralohara and @astro_watkins talked about their missions to the International Space Stations and we all talked about the #artemis program to return humans to the #moon and how the #kamestastin lake impact crater is playing a crucial role in training #astronauts in field #geology 😀

Wonder what it’s like coming home from space? 🌍✨

For astronauts, the return to gravity is a journey all its own. Astronauts must re-learn how to walk, balance, and feel grounded after months or even years of microgravity. Space fundamentally reshapes the body: it strengthens some muscles while letting others weaken, shifts internal fluids, and scrambles the sense of balance.

NASA astronaut Jasmin Moghbeli described her first steps after landing as “a nice tap dance,” wobbly at first but improving quickly. After 204 days aboard the space station, NASA astronaut Loral O’Hara said she felt almost completely back to normal within a week.

NASA astronaut Frank Rubio, who spent a record 371 days in orbit, adjusted to gravity right away, though his feet and back were sore after more than a year without bearing weight.

Even veteran flyers still feel the shock. NASA astronaut Suni Williams, back from nine months in orbit, was struck by how heavy everything felt and stressed the importance of moving daily to rebuild strength. And at 70, NASA astronaut Don Pettit shared that the challenge wasn’t the big muscles, but retraining the small ones we often overlook—reminding us that adapting to gravity is always a learning process.

NASA studies every return to better understand the human body and prepare crews for future long-duration missions to the Moon, Mars, and beyond. 🚀

During our training as @nasaastronauts we spend time in Star City. We live in cottages on-site during that training. All of our crews come through here. Here is a tour from those cottages to the gates.

NASA astronauts Suni Williams and @astrohague ventured outside the @iss on Jan. 16, 2025, for Williams’ eighth and Hague’s fourth spacewalk! 💫🛠️

With support from @nasajohnson Mission Control Center, they replaced a rate gyro assembly that helps maintain the orientation of @iss, installed patches to cover damaged areas of light filters on the NICER (Neutron star Interior Composition Explorer) X-ray telescope, replaced a reflector device on one of the international docking adapters, and checked access areas and connector tools that astronauts will use for future Alpha Magnetic Spectrometer maintenance.

Time for a post-flight adventure! 🌎

After spending six-months aboard the @iss as part of Expedition 70, NASA astronauts @astrojaws and @loralohara have been taking their space stories on tour.

Recently, they inspired the next generation of space explorers during a STEM engagement with students at Catherine Watkins Elementary School. They also made a stop at @nasa Headquarters in Washington D.C., where they met with NASA Administrator Bill Nelson, NASA Deputy Administrator Pam Melroy, and NASA Associate Administrator Jim Free.

If you could ask them one question about their mission, what would it be? 🚀

• What’s the best thing about life on the ISS?
• What Earthly luxury did you miss the most?
• How did it feel to inspire the next generation of explorers?

Drop your questions below! 👇✨

On April 6, I was able to visit Kazakhstan and film how the descent module of the manned spacecraft Soyuz MS-24 successfully landed, delivering cosmonaut Oleg Novitsky, space flight participant from Belarus Marina Vasilevskaya and astronaut Loral O’Hara to Earth📸
