After decades of hardship, we’re getting closer and closer to real change for kids with cancer. I can hardly wait for the day when survival rates improve and the childhood cancer community can celebrate a lifetime of dedication. Step into this world. What a rich life this is! My job is abundantly meaningful. The people in my life are fun and big-hearted, the events we pull off are unique and so frackin’ fun!! @therealkateesackhoff, @robin_gadsby and legendary screenwriter Ronald Moore came together (a big deal in itself) for a high energy, reminiscent and playful look at Battlestar Galactica to an auditorium of fans who love and respect their work. All benefitting the @samdayfoundation!!! I know…I don’t seem like a Sci Fi person, but when sci fi contains stories with tension and hope and grief and relationship and personal growth, I get sucked in. It is so well done! This live look back on season 2 was so much fun and interesting! Thanks to my generous and talented friends @portlandvideopro and @zahnecal_photo for capturing the essence of the event. Ten years ago today, Sam left this world. Ten years later, we are still grieving him. We still miss him. We still wish we had more time. And yet, when we look back through these photographs and memories, what we feel most deeply is love. So much love. So much joy. So much sweetness. A life that was far too short, but so deeply, beautifully loved. That love is still here. It lives in these memories, in the stories we tell, and in the people Sam continues to bring together.💛 by @lornamday

Today marks 10 years since Sam left this world. The ache has never left me. The challenge to live without him keeps me in the pursuit of a deeper life. Sorrow included. I LOVE knowing that so many people have been able to get to know him through @samdayfoundation and Light Of Day. Sam’s light keeps shining, and he would probably roll his eyes at the cheesiness of that statement. I love you Sam. by @lornamday

I love a good conversation and Dave Miller is a master interviewer. @opb invited me in for Think Out Loud last week. We (mostly I) talked about hope, faith, living well, childhood cancer, family, and of course, Sam. This is what I love about Light Of Day. Light of Day is more than the story of Sam’s cancer. Now that I have some interviews lined up, I’ll get to talk about themes like hope, spirituality, wrestling with beliefs, and accessing a deeper life over a happy life. I hope to make every interview one that these hosts feel good about. Storytelling has been a learning process for me these past few years. I needed to not just write, but write well. In between pulling out my hair and the perpetual eye twitches, the learning experience has filled my cup over and over again. Reading good books was an essential and inspirational part of the process. Since I released Light Of Day, every day has presented me with sweet messages from friends who have read it. It’s a scary thing to release a memoir. I have feared the platitudes of people who care but didn’t really love the book. Instead, it seems to be something people have really enjoyed. It’s been an overwhelming experience. They know me better now. And the best part is, they know Sam too. I have so many dear friends who never met him. But now they’ve had some time with him, as well as a window into my own heart and mind during our years with cancer. My gosh. Thank you for buying the book. For reading it. And for letting me know that it meant something to you too. Now, I hope the circle of readers will spread beyond my friends. Whatever they may think of it, I’ve been boosted the good people in my life who loved it. What an experience this has been! by @lornamday
