Kristi & I were surprised with this presentation, made @edenstarsorg by one of our teachers, Nasreen.
Words are such an impactful gift. She is so grateful for our support. Thanks to our community in The Columbia River Gorge, we've helped Nasreen and the girls of Eden Stars learn, gain confidence, and change the trajectory of their lives.
This is just the beginning for us. Kristi & I are committed to funding this project & opening a second location in a very remote village of Khanday further in the north next year.

As some of you may know , last September I visited beautiful North Pakistan and travelled along the Karakoram Highway thru the majestic mountains 🏔️ to China .

I had the pleasure of travelling with 3 great human beings ….@the_mountain_boy @lorrlyons @kristi_kuehl on this epic journey . Needless to say we are now good friends

Along the way I heard about their amazing Eden Stars School project which they were involved with in Skardu . Such an inspiring and heartwarming story I thought …

So…..wanting to help and having been inspired by this story , I have decided my 2024 cycling challenge will be to raise funds for The Eden Stars ✨ school project in Northern Pakistan .

In 3 weeks I will be cycling 🚴 thru the Pyrenees in Andorra , France & Spain , a journey of many mountains and hopefully flat valleys !!!

Kristi & I made a presentation to the girls @ Eden Stars in Balti. In Northern Pakistan, this is their primary language. In the south,Urdu is the primary language.
Most Northern Pakistanis know both languages. Balti is barely documented anywhere and is an ancient Tibetan language.
The girls got a giggle out of me introducing Rod as my Ashepa. Women don't generally speak of their intimate relationships in public. Kristi & I got a giggle out of introducing her grandson. The translation for grandchild is Caca 😂 taken in Skardu by @lorrlyons

Kristi was so excited that Niaz made us French Toast. After filling our bellies, we headed our for a hike & Niaz encountered some quick sand. Ibrahim pulled him out. It was crazy, the more Niaz moved, the deeper he sunk. Apparently, quick sand is a real thing... taken in Skardu, Pakistan by @lorrlyons

Finally ❤️ After 6 days of traveling by car through some of the most beautiful geography my eyes have ever seen, we arrived to meet the girls.
Tea & food are customary. We were welcomed with both & a welcome made of Marigold pedals. After each young lady introduced themselves, we hiked. It was a great ice breaker. Most of them were so shy. As the days with them progressed, they became more comfortable. taken in Skardu by @lorrlyons

We started the day with Rainbow Bridge, beautiful views, the intersection of The Hindu Kush, Karakoram & Himalayan mountains. Then, a long dark ride through Doesai National Park. Just before dark, we caught a glimpse of Sheosar Lake. The last shot was a possible camp spot. We all decided to press on 2 more hours to our destination of Skardu. Shortly after the decision, we stopped to help some men that had a flat tire in the middle of nowhere and almost rolled off a cliff! Very grateful for one of the passengers of the disabled vehicle who jumped in our rolling car to stop it! taken in Pakistan by @lorrlyons
