“Is this profitable?”

“Can you scale?”

“Why aren’t you in bottle shops?”

Guys, I’m doin’ well 🙏

I don’t reckon I’ll buy a boat anytime soon. But I wake up each day and get to put my full effort into making the best wines possible.

There’s no sales department, marketing people, or directors here taking away from that single effort.

We’re just growing grapes and making wine 🥂

It’s the only focus and I think you’ll taste it in the wines.

This simple life has me both on my bike and in the vineyards every day of the week.

I’m doin’ well 🥂

The biggest job of the winter is done: Pruning 🙏

Shaping the vines. Defining the crop. Framing a vintage.

Hundreds of thousands of snips over 3 weeks — timing and precision is everything.

It’s still cold and wet here. But every farmer I talk to says the same thing: the coming season isn’t shaping up like years past. Good or bad, nobody knows yet.

I’m optimistic. And our effort here reflects that optimism.

Let’s see.

The foundation is set. Cheers to the 2027 crop 🥂

Five courses. Five wines. One winemaker.

On 28 August, Lost Boy Master Winemaker Trevor DeRuisé joins us at The Northcliff for an evening of wine, food and story — five courses, five pairings, poured and presented by the man who made them himself.

Swipe to see the full tasting menu: springbok tartare, seared beef tataki, butter-poached monkfish, grilled kudu loin, and a stone fruit and blue cheese finale — each course matched glass for glass with the Lost Boy range.

Meet Trevor DeRuisé — once a professional mountain bike racer, now the hands behind Lost Boy Wines, farmed and crafted in one of South Africa’s newest, most exciting wine regions at Cape Agulhas, the southernmost tip of Africa.

Artisanal rosé, vibrant bubbly, aromatic reds and much more — all farmed and crafted by hand, with a true sense of place.

Join us on 28 August as he brings his range to The Northcliff for an evening of wine and story, poured and paired by the winemaker himself, course by course.

Make hay while the sun shines 🍷

With the farm quiet and the mornings chilly, a little wintertime barrel work fits perfectly and is best paired with a sunrise.

As of right now, Malbec and Syrah are the two biggest standouts from the 26 vintage.

Things are young. But set a date in your calendar for 4 years from now to come taste and see how my predictions went 🙏

The biggest effort of the winter and the first step for the next vintage is finished 🙏

Pruning: ✅

It may seem like we’re simply snipping old shoots off of a dormant vine, but there’s a lot of art that goes into this process.

We are quite literally shaping how the next vintage will hang while also planning for its size and vigour.

More than anything, pruning symbolises the starting line for 2027.

I am very grateful for another chance to make some great wines. Let’s see how we do 🥂 taken in Gansbaai, Western Cape by @lostboywines

A wine without a sense of place isn’t a wine. It’s a product.

I’m in the business of making wine 🥂

And I’m very fortunate to do it in a region with real character and elegance.

I’ll never make big volumes. But I’ll always produce a wine that brings you back to this wild coastline, with every sip.

Fynbos, salt, chilly wind, and a real love of the game is what I offer in my wines.

Please enjoy 🙏 taken in Gansbaai, Western Cape by @lostboywines

75 knots is 139km/hr. This really has been a wild one and we are still busy helping friends, who took the brunt of it worse than we did, sort out their houses and barns.

I know it’s rough for business when the power is out for 7+ days and all cell signal and WiFi goes down. It has hit me quite hard as well. I’ll be honest about that.

But I’d be lying if I said these nights aren’t some of my favourites.

A fire going, the prettiest lady, and no complications. Just fire, stars, and whatever we decide to put on the coals.

It’s a real reset I wish everyone could experience (minus the structural damage).

I will definitely be in trouble for one of these photos, but we’ll deal with that when she has signal again ❤️

In short, we are all good - thank you to everyone who has reached out. Looks like it may be an exciting winter ahead. I apologise if the braai works better than my inbox - I’ll reply asap 🤠

Life has a funny way of bringing you to exactly where you need to be.

Tell me 10 years ago, winemaking in Cape Agulhas was my future and I’d quickly ask 1) where is that? and 2) how many glasses of wine have you had today?

Today, I look around at this coastline, the wines that we produce, my incredible friends/community, the backlog of bike races in this country on my to-do list still, and I wonder how it took me so long to wander here.

Professionally, there’s no where else in the world I’d rather be making wine.

Deep down, I truly believe these cool-climate wines along this untouched coast have the potential to yield the best, dry, proper rosés the world has ever seen.

Elegant, vibrant, aromatic and fruit forward while still maintaining complexity… It is a difficult style to replicate elsewhere. Our wines have a true sense of place and they are my exact favourite style for proper Rosé.

I’m not sure if I’m off a bit on this optimism.

But let’s see 🥂 I’m quite hopeful 🙏 taken in Gansbaai, Western Cape by @lostboywines
