The Seeings of the One True Dauphin of Mississippi. Scriber of songs. Rememberer of Boot. Seeker of the Book of Vanities. WesternAF video out now.

POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

About to go down a Jim White rabbit hole. I've got a Searching for the Wrong Eyed Jesus dvd old enough to buy booze, and lately have really loved his prose and the way he sees the world. Everything he does has a strange electricity to it. Top one, Skirmishes with the Lord, is about making the Searching doc. The middle , Sometimes by the Sea, short stories. Incidental Contact is a novel. Y'all go buy em and let me know so I can have somebody to talk to. Do us a Dauphin book club. We can even call it a Jim White book club, if you insist.

Did you know I carved the Mississippi rattlesnake soap on a rope for the cover of Songs for Children Who Curse to match the prison aesthetics of Zebra Ranch? Did you know I finally uploaded the option to buy CDs of it so now you can hold your very own copy knowing that even the cover is artisnal grade redneck poetry? Ponder this for your Bandcamp Friday, you CD loving stallwarts, which allows you to rob a corporate entity of all transaction fees and pass the full bounty straight to the redneck poet typing at you now. Also, I added Book of Vanities CDs and will try and get Boogerproof and Cone of Shame shirts up by next Bandcamp Friday--those of you who wanted them and in your deepest hearts and still do. Consider these considerations, moving forward. Keep it tween the ditches, til next.

I made these pickles opinionated, hot n sweet.

#pickles am i interneting right in the age of ai? Go listen to those Songs for Children who Curse. Me n @therealjimbomathus and @kpedals made them exist before I had to stop existing for a while. But since existing seems to be a possibility again, throw some Dauphin of Mississippi on your playlist s. Especially if you like opinionated pickles. by @lostdauphins

Thought I'd sent the last of these to @georgesingletonwriter a couple years ago. Found this in a Robert Earl Keen case. One day, when I find a bag of cartel drug money or hit the lotto, we'll put it on vinyl with the others. Till then, thanks for listening, those who do. We're,me n @clairelukensgeo, are getting to play at a pretty great festival put on by @tgltso this weekend. I'm thankful for ever getting to play, but after the first two hard years of dadding, I'm going to try and never take it for granted again for the rest of my days.

Hope to see some folks at the campout Saturday morning. Or tonight for the amazing @talkingghostsband .

Be glad in what you do.

Campout Spotlight: The Dauphin of Mississippi @lostdauphins

Acclaimed songwriter, the Dauphin of Mississipi has earned accolades wherever he has set up, from the airwaves of Wyoming, to the youtube chanel Western AF. Known as much for his travels as his songwriting, we are excited to have tracked him down for a set a the Campout.

“Mississippi to Wyoming, now New Zealand to Merced, The Dauphin of Mississippi tends to get lost for considerable swaths of time in large and adventuresome rural landscapes, collecting and dispensing songs as such times and occasions call for…then disappearing, and rather abruptly at that.

Don’t miss @lostdauphins performing Saturday, September 26th, at The Good Luck Campout. Day passes and camping available. Tickets at the campout website. Link in the bio

Took off to the big trees with a 24-year old mixed cd a buddy gave me. I've been trying to write a piece using the songs as a filter for what we were, here in the years since he passed. He was one of my first writing buddies, on fire for it in ways I've not known many other people to be. We came from towns with no record stores, but he'd discovered and understood the value of the internet early on and knew it was a roadmap to all the greatest music ever made, and he pulled me along. So every year I listen to Songs You Need V 1, a playlist by JTM III and remember all those nights that we were the last two people awake in the world, reading poems out loud as whatever new music he'd found filled the room, but so far I haven' t been able to write a single word.

Last weekend me n mine went up to the Sierras and hiked some baby friendly big trees, and on the trip up, listened to the mix tape and expected to write something finally. When nothing came, we swapped his mixedtape and listened for the first time to the new @tgltso album The Trees at Last as we basically drove directly into the album cover, down to hawks riding thermals in the clear blue. And when track 5 ( Our Song) hit it broke my heart open, Randall Knife style. Between " this dont feel like home/ where's my old Lazy bones?/tell me that crazy poem/lets gas up the car and get goin/" to the closing "Your old mixed tape it still plays/ dust it off on the lonely days/ when a soul can stand some mending/ our songs still at the ending." Then that 2 a.m. Springsteenesque chorus...... The highest compliment I can give it is that he'dve probably put it on a mixed tape because I'd one day need it.

The whole record's great. Where You Once Were, the Journey, and Tank's Half Full all round out my top 4 after 4 days. Great production, great playing.

I wish it was on sync here, but it aint, so you'll have to go find it on bandcamp.

I still havent written that poetry or prose or whatever is waiting in that mix tape, but I know what its supposed to feel like now. Great songs are healing, magical things. These are some.

Hey Wyoming, unfortunately we're having to cancel our trip due to Gampy here not taking care of his health and ending up in the ER where I traded a Whatfest wristband for this much less cool one. It's nothing too big, but was scary enough and is taking some days to sort out. We hate to miss seeing everyone and singing with you, a community that always feels like home. We hope to be back again real soon. Anyhow, love to everyone and y'all have a blast at @thewhatfestival .
