This is a special event for Sahadev (Steve Inglish), as this is his return to the place where much of his spiritual practice began.

According to Sahadev ( Steve Brazier), the sound of the Gong, when played properly and with intention, has the capacity to become a perfect vehicle to inner space. Because it is pure and pre music, it can reach deeper places and release emotional blocks in a most powerful and primal way.

Curiosity and wonder!
🧐
This week in Coffee and Conversation on Saturday, October 10th. ☕, we will discuss curiosity and how it can expand our experience.

Adbhuta (translated from Sanskrit) is without harmed -- a sense of wonder, curiosity, mystery, astonishment, awe, exploration, joy, or delight.

Each fall, I plan a thing to do through the season that ultimately carries me through winter. It most certainly involves a challenge in my yoga practice, a something to work towards, usually a refining of a skill. Also, I choose a something that takes me outward. This year, I am exploring trails, bookshops, and coffee spots. Come to find out, there are a fair number of places in the area brand new to me. As I assemble a list, I talk to people, and this creates conversation about where people have gone.

I know the feeling of going somewhere completely fresh to me. There is a willingness to expand energy and investigate that is intrinsically motivated. It is play. It is a capacity that can be practiced and applied to so many experiences. A simple conversation with someone on the street. Choosing what to read or watch. It is openness.

We hope you can join us. This Coffee and Conversation offering is a group discussion format around the topics of meaning and life. It is donation-based, so when you register, you will be given an option to donate. We meet in the cozy back area with a couch, comfy chairs, and floor space. Some people take a class before or after the group. Grab coffee or tea and join us. It is a wonderful breadth of people with insight and understanding

After your favorite yoga class on Sunday morning, book a sauna and cold plunge session.

Don’t go to yoga on Sundays but want to come! Great! We’d love to have you.

Here’s how it works: Sauna Cleveland will drive their sauna and cold plunge pool to our parking lot on the morning of October 25th. (Yes, they put a sauna on the back of a truck and drive it around town — it’s very cool!) Choose any class on Sunday morning, and afterward, join the festivities. Your ticket gives you one hour to move between the sauna and the cold plunge. It’s a fun way to connect with fellow students, make new friends, and support a great local business.

NEW: Sauna + Cold Plunge + Yoga with Lotus Flower Yoga Collective 🧘 🔥 ❄️

Cycle through our cedar wood Finnish sauna (140-190°F) and ice cold plunge (55°F), then lounge and restore with our friends at Lotus Flower.

1 hour sessions // Book now

Why sauna + cold plunge hits different:
The contrast between heat and cold is where the magic happens. Your body releases endorphins, improves circulation, and recovers in a way that leaves you deeply rested and renewed. The sauna opens you up, the plunge resets you, and the whole cycle moves you into a state of total restoration.

The experience:
- Cedar wood-burning sauna (140-190°F) seats 4-6 people
- Small group cycling together through the experience
- Ice cold plunge (55°F) to reset and invigorate
- Change rooms available
- Yoga wear welcome in the sauna
- Towels provided (bring yours too if you’d like)

How to book:

Schedule online via mindbody links (details on our website event page and Lotus Flower’s booking page)
Or call or email Lotus Flower if you’re not on Mindbody.

DM us or comment “lotus” and we’ll send the booking link.

In this edition of Coffee and Conversation on Saturday, September 19th. ☕, we will discuss how going inward to center, ground, and quiet, allows us to go outward in the world in a calm, balanced, and wise way.
🤫
We have sensation, the physical feeling from something (vision, smell, taste, touch, hearing) happening to the body. We have perception, the psychological interpretation of sensation through experience. Our perceptions, the way we interpret information, leads to our experiences of the world.
↔️
Interoception is to feel and understand what goes on internally. Exteroception is the perception of stimuli originating outside of the body. Proprioception is the unconscious perception of movement and spatial orientation arising from within the body, a sense of the position of parts to parts and the whole of the body. Nociception is the perception of pain and threat. All of this is to say that it can get complicated to see clearly and know. We understand that when sensory stimulation does not change, we stop attending to it. Checking our perceptions with others can be useful.
👀
In all of it, going inward is essential, so we may find stillness and listen. It can be tricky as there can be a fine line of going inward with introspection and isolation to tune out and not deal with the outer world. Yes, there is a lot here. We will go where the discussion leads, as always.

* Donations this week are going to the annual fundraising event for @rescuevillage. Please give directly to our page. Link in story. Or know that your donation at registration in Mindbody this week goes toward this wonderful and critical work.

What does it mean to find balance in life?
⚖️
In this edition of Coffee and Conversation on Saturday, September 5th. ☕, we will discuss this seeming elusive and constant moving goal.
⏳️
Balance can be a noun and a verb. It is a disconnect between what we want and what we feel we have to do. In essence, there is disharmony. We feel amiss and off-kilter. What we are not doing invades what we are doing. In the context of human life, balance is not stable, but rather in constant motion. We can blame others but ultimately, we are the ones making (or not making) a choice. Even and especially if, that choice is important and leads to momentary imbalance.
🌋
Balance is an inherent human condition. It is a state of mind where know our purpose and values; where we are clear, focused, and uncluttered; with positive emotions; being nourished and rested in mindfulness. If you just laughed at that sentence because it feels so out of reach, this conversation is for you.

How does capturing photos affect our experience?
📸
It is a question that arose out of our talk last week and centers the Coffee and Conversation for Saturday, August 29th.
☕
In Sanskrit, the word anubhūta denotes deep subjective understanding - our experience. It is connected closely to a discussion about aparigraha - without clinging or holding tightly, and the difference between bhava - being and kriyā - doing.
👀
What we choose to capture in photographs is our own perception and reflects what we value. It alters our inner world and the knowing of the outer world. It will be interesting to see where this conversation goes.

Where we place our attention and energy is a skill we can practice. What we learn in yoga, we can hone in our everyday life. In a world marketing to disrupt our focus, awareness is critical; to know and choose where we are looking. 👀 When do we need to turn inward and be mindful within ourself, and when do we go outward in community? This is our topic for Saturday, August 15th, in Coffee and Conversation. ☕

It seems this balance of inward and outward comes down to a coherence of "being" and "doing." We all have tendencies and habits in one direction. We all land somewhere on the spectrum of introversion-extroversion which can drive the train. A word that keeps coming to mind here is pratyāhāra, translated as a control of anything we take into ourselves, or a withdrawal from the senses. It is understanding the aspects of our individual nature and learning to harmonize them with the greater universe within and around us. It is the linchpin in the Eights Limbs of the yoga path. A linchpin prevents the wheel from sliding off of the axle. Pratyāhāra is key to the relationship between our outer and inner worlds.

"Kirtan is for all. There are no experts, no beginners. The practice itself is the teacher, guiding us to ourselves. Kirtan allows us to enter into a mystery world we create a temple inside our hearts, a place of love, a place of just being." --Jai Uttal

"The words of these chants are called the divine names and they come from a place that’s deeper than our hearts and our thoughts, deeper than the mind. And so as we sing them they turn us towards ourselves, into ourselves. They bring us in, and as we offer ourselves into the experience, the experience changes us. They come from the Hindu tradition, but it’s not about being a Hindu, or believing anything in advance. It’s just about doing it, and experiencing. Nothing to join, you just sit down and sing." --Krishna Das
