A medal for the baby freediver trying to do the scary things.

Last Saturday, I took part in my first freediving competition, at the Italian Outdoor Championship 2026.

That day, the goal had very little to do with sportive achievement. I came to test something I have been working on the past 4 years : my relationship with stress.

For reasons I haven't chosen, I grew up in an anxious body, quick to spiral into self-doubt, overthinking and paralysis. I even used to start shivering when I had to meet and speak to someone new. That's how out of control my nervous system was.

For the past few years, I've been quietly doing the work, understanding my patterns, finding the right tools, and practicing them over and over again. This competition was my way of taking that work onto another level.

Of course, I felt the anxiety creeping in before the dive, everything was new, everything felt strange. But I religiously used my tools and patiently waited for my turn.

Then came the moment of truth. I grabbed the rope and my whole body and mind reacted beyond any expectations. I flatlined (hard core metaphor, I know, but that's the most accurate feeling I got from this moment) and switched into hyper focus mode. The stress faded, tensions disappeared and everything went quiet. There was only the cold green water of the lake and the peaceful me, listening to the judge counting the minutes down to the top time.

Even before starting the dive, I had already accomplished what I came for : finding peace, even under pressure. I was light years from expecting such a state of serenity, but at that moment, I acknowledged my enormous progress and the validity of my tools. I did the damn job.

That day I dove to 35 meters in Constant No Fins, earning me an unexpected third place in the international classification, alongside incredible women @mariabobela NR @voiceoftheocean WR. It was a baby dive, far from my limits, but I guess that's okay, because I'm still a baby human, still figuring myself out.

So here's your reminder to do the scary thing. You never know what you'll find out about yourself. You might even get a medal for showing up.
