16 amazing women, one table, and the beginning of something pretty special!

Last night, 16 incredible women came together for our first @tradeswomen.penrith.connect 🎉

This event has been almost TWO YEARS in the making!

For nearly two years, Beth- @chickenchippybuilds and I (@louiseazzopardicoaching )have been talking about creating something for tradeswomen in Greater Western Sydney.

A space where we could come together, connect, share experiences, build friendships and grow our community.

Eventually, we decided to stop talking about it and just go for it!

We picked a date, organised a location and hoped people would show up. 😂

And they did! 🥹

What an amazing night of conversations, laughter, new connections and women supporting women.

One of the best parts of the night was hearing everyone asking "When's the next one?!"

Starting an apprenticeship isn't just about learning how to do the job.

You're also learning how to work with different personalities.

How to ask someone to teach you when they don't really want to teach.

How to ask questions without feeling annoying.

How to work with another apprentice who learns completely differently to you.

How to speak up.

How to know when to push yourself — and when something isn't actually your responsibility to carry.

And you're often figuring all of this out while learning a trade and navigating adult life at the same time.

These are the conversations we can have in TradeReady mentoring.

You don't have to wait until something becomes a massive problem before asking for support.

Sometimes you just need someone in your corner who understands the trade environment and can help you work out your next move.

TradeReady Mentoring is open to women who:

Are based in NSW, Australia
Are currently in a trade OR seriously interested in getting into a trade

When Giving Back Starts Burning You Out

I love women in trades.

I love talking about trades, encouraging women to give them a go, going to events, speaking at schools, doing careers expos, sharing my story and showing people what's possible.

And I know I'm not the only one.

When you're passionate about something, it can feel good to become the person who says, "Hey, you can do this too."

But there's a point where giving back can start taking too much from you.

That's what I call ambassador burnout.

What Is Ambassador Burnout?

An ambassador can be anyone who represents something they're passionate about.

For women in trades, this might mean being the first woman in your workplace, speaking at events, visiting schools, doing workplace tours, attending careers expos, sharing your story online or encouraging other women to consider a trade.

It's fantastic.

Until you're doing so much of it that you start thinking:

"Fuck, not again."

And honestly, that's probably one of the biggest warning signs.

You used to be excited about the next event.

Now you're exhausted before you've even arrived.

The @citcanberra and @buildlikeagirlaustralia Women in Trades - Dress Code: Hi Vis event is back for its 3rd year and was a night to recognise and celebrate exceptional tradies in the ACT region.

We heard from an incredible panel of apprentices across electrical, renewables and automotive, hearing stories and insights of their journeys - the good, bad and sometimes ugly.

We also awarded over $12,000 in scholarships thanks to the generous support of our sponsors, a timely helping hand to ease cost of living and help with further training, development and tool purchases.

Most importantly, the event fosters deep connection, conversations and networking that results in meaningful impact and combats feelings of isolation or loneliness in the workplace.

A huge thank you to @tazzydee for expertly hosting the event as the MC, and to the CIT team for championing this initiative and highlighting the importance of supporting women in male dominated industries.

See you all again next year!

You don't need to have your whole career mapped out before you start.

Maybe you're still at school and thinking about leaving at the end of Year 10.

Maybe you've done work experience and loved it, but have no idea what happens next.

Maybe you know you want a hands-on career, but you're trying to work out which trade, which employer or how apprenticeships even work.
