Let me introduce you to my brain child. Those of you who are close to me know it’s been a long time coming, but we are making some meaningful progress. Especially in this heartbreaking, exploitative system we have been existing in, I urge you to use your agency and choice opting into structures that provide alternatives to the status quo. Follow @joinsymera, waitlist link is in bio. Questions and feedback welcome via comments and/or dm’s. ❤️ #communitybuilding #creativeindustry #knowlegeexchange by @louquarian
We had the absolute pleasure not just to do a large workshop with the @the_lesedi_show_choir.sa but to re-create a beautiful musical exchange session that we first experienced together in South Africa. It’s genuinely the heart of these encounters, sharing songs, arrangements, laughs and memories. Organised by @bintanizer @precbrown @louquarian with the incredible support of @melissa.audrey @mimi_dmsse @mel_dmss @w.a7eem Capture and edit @louquarian.visual Location @varellistudios #lesedishowchoir #musicalexchange by @louquarian

On the importance of interdependence. We’re not supposed to do it all by ourselves. #symeraapp #creativecommunity #interdependence by @louquarian
Community requires reciprocity and mutual understanding. It’s important we don’t confuse an audience for community because it will make us spectators instead of active participants. #symeraapp #creativecommunity by @louquarian
We’re all tasked with practicing how to dream. To become so skilful at envisioning a more whimsical, more efficient, more fair (insert microcosm of your choice) that we become relentlessly curious about how to practically move towards that vision. by @louquarian
I recently learned that I spent a larger part of my early childhood at my grandparents’ house, practically living with them part-time.
My grandmother was a complex person. She grew up during the war, amidst 5 siblings, one of them still a baby, and a mother who was grieving the loss of her husband. Displaced, without food or proper shelter, and dependent on the goodwill of strangers.
She had resilience that became sharpened like a knife, sometimes cutting those closest to her. And equally there was tenderness, singing lullabies and making sweet treats for breakfast.

Last week my insomnia returned. Most nights, I woke up turning endlessly, running marathons in my mind. On Monday, I woke up around the time I later learned she had passed. I know she was ready to go.

My last visit with her was really lovely. She had been living with dementia for a couple of years and was stringing together stories like different colored beads. Beautifully unorganized. The entropy of a memory short of syntax. We laughed, held hands, took pictures.

Every encounter with death and grief is unique, but what they all have in common is a longing to honor a life. To connect meaningfully with those who inhabited it, who made the best of it, who completed their journey.
Rest peacefully, Oma. May your return home restore all the joy and softness to your spirit. by @louquarian
One of my favourite creators on this app @realizationbypea made visual art that says “whether you gallop or trot matters less than how you relate to the movement”. And it’s my favourite reminder that time is not linear and the relationship I establish with what’s in front of me is the real gold, not how quickly I make it to the next step. Unless it feels exhilarating to do life as quickly as possible, in which case I can switch gears and go nuts on speed. For most of the last year I just felt pressure. To deliver faster on my vision. It wasn’t a lighthearted desire for speed, it was clunky and naggy. It was my mind pushing and my body declining the request. So I slowed down. And you know what— as slow as it felt last year, the last 2 months have been progress at the speed of light. A fully new timeline. One that feels exciting, stretching my brain in all the right ways, pulling all of the strings together that I’ve been weaving for a year. Weaving is bound to take longer than knitting. And long will feel just right when I enjoy it in the process. And let’s be real, nobody wants a scratchy sweater. by @louquarian
Who are the people that are gathered here already, wanting to participate? I’ve gathered a few example of what was shared so far and a few beautiful things crystallised: 1. There are already similarities in what some want to share and others want to receive. Even on a small scale, supporting each other in a targeted way is entirely possible. 2. Most people mentioned more things they wanted to share with others than what they currently need help with. We are absolutely willing to be of service to each other. Which of the offerings listed speak to you? 3. In this small group of people, we already have hubs in different cities over 3 continent. That is potent and there is so much to learn from each other that way. To those who already filled out the waitlist link, thank you, deeply, for being day one supporters of this project. #buildinganapp #creativecommunity #artistssupportingartists by @louquarian
Building infrastructure is my attempt to engage with the creative community without taking the industry’s approach. I don’t know how well this will work, but genuinely— there’s only one way to find out. I’d rather try and invite you in than feel like all agency is lost for artists to properly organise themselves. I’d love to hear from you: what resonates, what visions do you have? Waitlist link for the app is in bio, I’m looking forward to have you join 🔗 by @louquarian
Staying connected to yourself, your agency, your joy, your vision, your creativity is part of the resistance. We have as many ways to experience positive progress as we have unique humans. Grief and rage are part of that. But our bodies cannot process those emotions 24/7 for multiple topics all at the same time. It will shoot us into overdrive. We need softness and recovery. We need connection and nurturing. We need containers where we are facing problems we can solve. Otherwise our sense of agency is walking out the door and that is the last thing that’s going to help create change. by @louquarian
