🎸🖤🎙️ Come as you are, as you were… As I want you to be… 🎶 📸❤️‍🔥🔥 Once in a blue moon, I trade museum artifacts for mosh pits. What an EPIC night photographing MAJOR THREAT at the legendary Parkside Lounge — where these awesome bands tore through FUGAZI, BIKINI KILL, and of course, NIRVANA. ⚡🤘🖤 The city smel’t of TEEN SPIRIT that night, let me tell ya! ✨🌃 I loved the KILLER performances! 🙌 And reconnecting with ol’ friends (including Sarah Michaels, with whom I share a ridiculous matching black cat tattoo 🐈‍⬛ from when were BABIES), and dancing the night away to DJ Viva Ruiz. 💃🏼🪩 Thanks & LOVE ❤️ to @_jendm_, @ddoublevvirgo, all of the performers, and everyone who brought the noise — and @rachel.joy for bringing GLUTEN FREE CAKE, HECK YEA! 🍫🎂🫶 We’ve all evolved since the dawn of grunge. BRACE YOURSELVES! 🖤⚔️✨ I made yoga mat armor for… ‘girls knight.’ 🧝‍♀️ …GOOD GREAVE! 😸
 Last month, I went to a Medieval Renaissance Vendor Market in Bushwick. Because… Brooklyn. 
Of course there’s a random Ren Faire market under a noisy subway overpass, full of people dressed as gnomes, princesses, villagers, faeries and… 21st-century time travelers. It was actually super cute. They had crochet maces lol. 
I didn’t have anything to wear except a red tunic with leather laces. Without enough time to order stuff, I looked at an old yoga mat destined for the trash and thought:

“We need… SORCERY!” ✨🔮
 So I ran to the art store.
 That same day: 1st prototype. (Taupe bracer) 3 days later: finished bracers. (Red Umber pair)
 PROJECT COST : $8 🪎 ———————————————————— • Old yoga mat — FREE
• X-Acto knife — $6
• Brass paper fastener thingys — $2
• Paint, brushes, tape & ruler — already had
• Brown shoelaces — found object
 Honestly? Turned out pretty good, and they were a hit at the event. (Surprisingly, I was the only person dressed as a fighter, leather boots & belts and all.)
 Now, there’s STILL half a yoga mat sitting here, which raises the question:
 What else should we make??? 🎨🤔
 Next time, I may experiment w/ Plasti Dip, FlexBond or Mod Podge as primer. Maybe even try sculpting actual EVA foam. Not sure how long yoga mat & unprimed acrylic/gouache will withstand battle damage.
 But I’m delighted that ye olde yoga mat wound up as costume armor for the Brooklyn version of ‘HEATED CHIVALRY.’ 💥🛡️🐎
 I hope this post inspires you to arm yourselves with curiosity. I’ve come to share knowledge & enthusiasm for ridiculous crafts.
 Wrist assured… I am otherwise unarmed.

⚡️ ‘LIGHT AS MATERIAL’ class at @telepathy.nyc last night. OMG so fun!! 🤩 In 4th grade, my big science project was on PRISMS, light refractions & the color spectrum. So last night’s class unlocked long lost memories & fostered my rampant curiosity about light, colors and how the world works. 🌈✨🔑 Gratitude to excellent light artist Jonathan Sims @chromadetic for the hands-on experience, and sharing his knowledge & inspiration with us.💡👏🧐 LOVE your work! (Everyone, go take all his classes at Telepathy! 📺🎟️) Thanks also to VFX artist Matt St Leger @mstleger for coming along to play — and eat tacos while cycling backwards on CitiBikes. 🌮🚲 (A crossover life activity I didn’t know I needed. 🚴‍♀️🤔) It was such a great & inspiring night of Art as Play. 👹✨ I am co-moderating the PICTOPLASMA NYC Conference at SVA, my alma mater, this week! 🎨🗽 📕 ‘PICTOPLASMA 2: Contemporary Character Design’ was the first fine-art book to publish my work, waaay back when I was exploring deconstructed plush toys as ‘tactile art without barriers to experience.’ It became an auspicious beginning to many future publications, exhibitions and creative adventures. 📚 So this week feels like a lovely full-circle moment: reuniting with @PICTOPLASMA founders Lars & Peter, who believed in my work all those years ago, and joining them onstage to celebrate artists & character design from around the world. ABLAN DAY 🌞🇵🇭 is a holiday in Ilocos Norte every Aug 9th, honoring Governor Roque Ablan Sr., a resistance leader who never backed down during the WWII occupation — the only governor in Northern Luzon who refused to surrender. Every year, I celebrate in my own way: by being obstinate, wildly independent, and never backing down… especially in matters of the heart. Some family traits run deep. (As my cousins and I like to call it: #ABLANcore 🌹❤️‍🔥) Truly tho, I am grateful for the generations that came before and the legacy of valor and service they left to inspire us. ✨🙏 Manuela Ablan, wife of Rogue Sr, is historically honored as the ‘Grand Lady of Ilokandia’ for her extensive championing of cultural heritage, literature and community empowerment. 👑 I would LOVE to help expand & digitize the ABLAN LIBRARY 📚 books & artifacts collections someday. 🪞 PORTALS are open 🌬️⚡️⚡️⚡️ 🌚🌝 Today is the full Strawberry Moon… soon to rise in the shadow of Mercury. 🌌 Whether you’re superstitious or not, there is a ripple in time today. 🕰️ ⏪ [ rewind ] 2018 🎥 🎞️🏜️ We were filming this music video in California for brilliant musician, Brian Marsalla. 🎹☕️ Great crew, great fun, creativity unleashed. 🪄 Then a devastating loss happened unexpectedly 💔 — and all of my projects abruptly halted as I headed east to be with my family. ✈️🌎 ⏯️ [ pause ] I emerged from that cataclysmic moment… changed. Something new. 🔮🐦‍🔥

⏩ [ fast forward ] 2026 The future is Now. ⏰ And the gum we like is coming back in style. 🍬 Thanks to an unexpected message from @mishabullock, who I haven’t heard from in years. 📱😱 The old crossroads delivers us to today: 3000 miles away from where we first filmed in the hot desert, as I uncover a hard drive named CORBEN. ☄️ Perhaps Mercury asks me to rewaken this project? And the pink moon smiles. 
From the archives back online. From ice to fire. I raise an eyebrow, and tilt my head. 🎥🎞️🤨 Today, the road diverges again… Who YOU become tomorrow hangs in the balance. Which path will you choose? Your free will may be a boon — or a hindrance.
