Today’s contributing artist is Niki Stavrianou.

The London-based, Greek photographer doesn’t shy away from nudity and frames that appreciate the beauty of the human body. The featured series titled ‘Nymphs’ is in alignment with the rest of her portfolio. Stavrianou draws her inspiration for this project from Greek mythology, where nymphs were personifications of elements of nature, such as forests or rivers. She adopts a conceptualized version of these myths in order to confront the separation from wilderness that has been artificially forced upon us as a modern society.

You must still be here if I can hear you at night, right?

A tourist asked once with agony: What happens to the people who do not have a family? Can people still do offerings for our deceased friends if they do not have anyone? The guide seemed troubled. How am I gonna satisfy this white person when my livelihood depends on his review? The answer wasn't the one that was expected, nor the fellow traveller, with whom we shared the same agony. It didn't feel fair that apparently, I am not close enough via blood to mourn you in Vietnam. A place on Earth where people might not believe in any God, but believe in ancestors and in their birthdays, they burn, they burn with joy, they burn paper shoes to walk on the otherside, paper Adidas clothes in case your body is cold, if you aren't working in unhumain conditions in their factories, paper money in case you want a drink to short you out, you get the idea. Then, something started burning within me. I want to ask the children, can you burn your playbook about mourning, please? But I don't; they don't owe me anything. I take a deep breath, I smell the burn, I smell the death, I smell what I have been experiencing as an injustice, even before I come to Vietnam, to feel you everywhere, as if you are powerful enough to haunt a whole country. How on Earth are you really dead, if you are always within me?
