👻 Think UPFs are harmless? Think again… From their links to health concerns to how heavily they’re marketed and how difficult they can be to identify, there’s plenty worth paying attention to. We don’t fear food, but we do believe in understanding what we’re eating and making more informed choices where we can. 🍒 What would you add? #UPFs #LowUPFLiving #ultraprocessedfoods #LowUPF #lowtoxliving by @lowertoxmama
🛒 Low UPF finds at The Food Warehouse, by Iceland! A new store has recently opened nearby, so I popped in to see what lower-UPF options I could find. I’ll be honest, I was a little disappointed with the overall selection and expected a bit more choice, but there were still a few good finds worth sharing! 🤍 It’s a reminder that lower-UPF shopping isn’t always straightforward, especially when you’re trying to balance convenience, choice and budget. Hopefully the range improves over time, but here are a few things I spotted on this visit. Have you shopped here? What are your go-to finds? 👇 #LowUPF #Thefoodwarehouse #foodswaps #UPFswaps #supermarketswaps @bloomfieldshoppingcentre @foodwarehouseni by @lowertoxmama
When I first started learning about UPFs, I realised it wasn’t always as simple as spotting the obvious junk food. Some everyday foods marketed as healthy or convenient can fall into the ultra-processed category depending on how they’re made, what’s in them and how they are marketed! Reading Dr Chris Van Tulleken’s book “Ultra-processed people: why do we all eat stuff that isn’t food… and why can’t we stop?” was such an eye opener for me and changed how I think about food. It’s impossible to avoid all of these foods and certainly not convenient to make everything from scratch as a busy mum of 2, so I’m learning to look a little closer at labels and make informed choices where I can. Did any of these surprise you? #LowUPF #UPFswaps #ultraprocessedpeople #supermarketswaps #ultraprocessedfoods by @lowertoxmama
🌿 Make a low tox multi-purpose cleaner with me! Most high street brands contain harmful chemicals that can cause hormone, fertility & respiratory issues as well as many other health concerns. I wanted to simplify what I was using at home, especially while navigating a chronic health condition that impacts my hormones, so this is one of the first switches I made. This simple DIY spray is budget friendly, using just a couple of ingredients and is great for everyday cleaning! 🧼 What you’ll need * 500ml Glass Amber spray bottle * 250ml Water (we use filtered) * 250ml White vinegar * 2tbsp Lemon juice or 15-20 drops of a good quality essential oil 🍋 Method 1. Mix equal parts filtered water and white vinegar 2. Add your lemon juice or essential oils 3. Pour into the bottle and give it a good shake once the lid is on 🌿 Why I like it White vinegar is a natural but effective antimicrobial solution and the lemon juice gives a nice natural fragrance as well as having antibacterial and antimicrobial properties! Where can you use it? This is perfect for glass, stainless steel, glazed ceramic and porcelain, laminate and sealed wood surfaces but I’d avoid using on granite, marble or unglazed/unsealed surfaces as it’s acidic and can scratch the surfaces! Remember, you don’t have to replace everything at once. For me, lower tox living is not about perfection. It’s about reducing exposure one small, realistic choice at a time ☺️ Would you try this one? #lowtoxcleaning #lowertoxliving #diycleaning #affordableswaps #lowtoxliving by @lowertoxmama
🛒 Low-UPF finds at Sainsbury’s this week! A few easy finds to help make low-UPF choices a little simpler ☺️ Save this for your next shop! #LowUPF #upfswaps #foodswaps #supermarketswaps #sainsburysfinds @sainsburys by @lowertoxmama
UPFs are everywhere and trying to figure out what to buy can feel overwhelming! 🤯 But what exactly are UPFs? Ultra processed foods (UPFs) are foods made using industrial processes and formulations, containing ingredients you wouldn’t typically use in home cooking, that are generally designed for over consumption. I’m learning to understand labels and making small, intentional changes where I can. We choose to reduce where possible, prioritising whole foods at home and being flexible out and about. 🥐🍎 For me, it’s about being informed and finding balance, whilst enjoying and not fearing food! What’s one small change you are making? Let me know in the comments👇🏽 #reducingUPFs #lowUPFs #ultraprocessedfoods #foodswaps #UPFswaps by @lowertoxmama
Trying to reduce ultra-processed foods (UPF) at home? Here are some great low and non-UPF finds at @tesco_ni this week 🛒 I heard Tesco have launched a new range called The Tesco Finest Just x Ingredients which includes non-UPF burgers, meatballs, sausages and Chipolatas so I was on the look out for them. Unfortunately no luck finding them in our local stores yet so let me know in the comments if you spot them! 👇🏽 #LowUPF #upfswaps #foodswaps #supermarketswaps #TescoFinds by @lowertoxmama
Welcome to my page 😃 A busy mama of 2, my low tox journey began after decades of struggling with a chronic health condition. Switching out products and seeking holistic therapies allowed me to lower my exposure to everyday toxins and start the healing journey! Fast forward to now and the journey continues as a family of four 🧡 We are embracing a lower tox lifestyle, reducing ultra processed foods and supporting our health and wellbeing holistically. But honestly, living lower tox can feel so overwhelming, confusing and expensive, especially here in Northern Ireland where we do not always have access to all of the same options as mainland! That’s where this page comes in. Think affordable local finds, simple swaps and intentional choices towards a lower tox life, without the pressure to do everything perfectly! Because it’s not about perfection. It’s about reducing exposure one small, realistic choice at a time ☺️ If you are on a similar journey, I’m so glad you are here 🧡 #lowtoxlifestyle #LowUPF #holistichealth #crunchymum #lowtoxfamily by @lowertoxmama
