Testified today in support of moving forward with the planned Preschool for All tax increase. If we want PFA to succeed, we have to fund it — and we have to listen to the educators doing the work every day.

I spoke before the Multnomah County Board today about the future of Preschool for All.

I believe deeply in this program and what it can mean for children and families. But I also believe its long-term success depends on the people who make it possible every day: educators.

My testimony focused on educator representation, workforce retention, Oregon Registry delays, and making sure frontline teachers have a meaningful voice in how the program evolves.

Real change happens through conversation, accountability, and showing up—even when progress is slow.

Thanks to everyone who has shared their experiences, met with me, or encouraged me along the way. I’m going to keep listening, keep learning, and keep advocating.

My third testimony before the Multnomah County Board of Commissioners.

This testimony focused on workforce sustainability, role classification, and the growing concern that the Preschool for All wage floor is increasingly being treated as a target rather than a minimum.

As classrooms become more demanding, it’s important that responsibilities, titles, and compensation remain aligned. A strong early childhood system depends on retaining experienced educators.

My second testimony before the Multnomah County Board of Commissioners.

I spoke about oversight, accountability, and the difference between reporting and verification. As Preschool for All continues to grow, I believe public investment should be matched by strong systems that ensure standards are being followed consistently across providers.

I support Preschool for All and want to see it succeed. Long-term success requires both investment and accountability.

My testimony before Portland City Council.

I spoke about why childcare is infrastructure. When educators leave the field, families, employers, and the broader economy feel the impact.

While Preschool for All is a county program, the stability of the childcare workforce affects the entire city. I encouraged the City to support stronger accountability, workforce sustainability, and collaboration between educators, providers, families, and policymakers.

Childcare is not just a family issue. It’s a workforce issue and an economic issue.

My first public testimony before the Multnomah County Board of Commissioners.

As a preschool teacher, I’ve spent years working directly with children and families. This was my first time speaking publicly about Preschool for All and some of the workforce and accountability issues I’ve observed while working in the system.

I believe strongly in the goals of Preschool for All and want to see the program succeed. That’s why I decided to speak up. by @lozitomike
