Collection Title: Icing on the Cake

Icing on the Cake is a tribute to the process of emotional healing and reconciling with one's past. Using cake as a central metaphor, the collection celebrates the playful colourful elements of childhood. Each look has an element of hand knitting, crochet, and/or beading: the time and effort put into every stitch is an illusion to the hard work that I have put to healing my inner child, one step at a time. The collection speaks to the resilience required to heal, with each piece representing a different aspect of that journey.
At its core, the collection is a meditation on sweetness, healing, and self expression. It challenges societal expectations of food and body image, offering an alternative narrative that celebrates softness, comfort, and the joy of personal growth. The use of craft techniques infuses each garment with a sense of care and intimacy, allowing the wearer to reconnect with the nurturing aspects of self-love and healing.

🌟BÁINÍN🌟
“Irish wool is a classified waste product in Ireland and the wool industry has been struggling because of the increase and the accessibility of synthetic fibers and wool from warmer climates, which is less coarse due to a lower micron count.

“Sarah’s graduate collection “BÁINÍN” is focused on the issues surrounding Irish wool with emphasis on the Galway Wool, (Ireland’s only native breed of sheep). She has researched the issues regarding Irish wool which is that it is quite itchy in its raw form but believes that the structure that this coarse, raw material provides is that of very few biodegradable, garment-suitable-materials.

“Wool is the original fibre and is fire retardant, reduces dust mites, temperature controlling and it is biodegradable. Wool has been proven to be a slow releasing fertilizer to soil. We are constantly being told that Irish wool (which is quite coarse due to our cold climate) is not suitable for high fashion. This collection was a research on how we could incorporate other materials with traceable Irish wool in order to make garments that could be worn.”

Collection Title – Full Bush in a Bikini

This project investigates the body as a site of tension between societal beauty standards, aesthetic ideals and the concept of the grotesque. It explores the space where attraction and repulsion coexist. Where the boundaries between what is considered beautiful and what is deemed ugly begin to blur.

Central to this enquiry is the female body, through which I aim to deconstruct normative assumptions about appearance, desirability, and acceptability. The work seeks to uncover how society labels certain characteristics of the body as flawed or inappropriate, framing them as grotesque within the narrowly defined ideals of beauty.

My engagement with this subject matter stems from a deeply felt, instinctive obligation to challenge the male gaze and the aesthetic codes it imposes.

Collection Title:UPROOTED

My collection UPROOTED is a deeply personal exploration of identity, belonging, and coming of age. Drawing from the richness of my multicultural upbringing and the many moves around the world that shaped my formative years, the collection captures the beauty and complexity of growing up between places, cultures, and identities
Tartan print textiles feature prominently, inspired by the red, white, and blue plastic shopping bags that have become a global symbol of movement and temporary belonging. These more grounded tartan textiles are contrasted with soft, lacy crochet pieces inspired by a Mozambican capulana flower print, blending cultures, and depicting the melting-pot nature of the collection.
At the heart of this collection is sustainability. Each piece is crafted using only natural fibers and created through slow, conscious, and handcrafted processes: knit, crochet, and stitching. I work exclusively with 100% biodegradable fibers, South African cotton yarn hand-dyed with GOTS-certified dyes, and Irish linen from Thomas Fergusons, reflecting both sides of my heritage while aligning with a vision for ethical, meaningful design.
UPROOTED is a celebration of the beautiful cultures that have shaped me, weaving together my unique coming-of-age stories into a collection that honors the richness of a wonderful life lived between worlds.
