Planning shapes how communities grow, where people can live, and the opportunities available to them. Arts and culture help ensure that growth reflects the identities, histories, and priorities of the people who call those communities home.

I joined @ltsc.cdc Center Executive Director @taktical92 “Tak” Suzuki and Somos Group Associate Planner Ricky Pozos for the “Culture as Infrastructure” session at the 2026 @apa_california Conference. Together, we explored the connection between culture, place, and community priorities through this year’s theme, “Crafting Our Narrative: Planning as Storytelling.”

Treating culture as infrastructure means recognizing the artists, cultural spaces, and local stories that sustain community life and incorporating them into planning decisions from the beginning.

@thesomosgroup, our work across planning, law, and development translates community priorities into projects that advance housing and community investment. Listening to the people who live and work in these neighborhoods is essential to that process.

Thank you to Ricky and Tak for sharing their perspectives, to APA California for bringing us together, and to everyone who joined the conversation. by @ltsc.cdc

For many Asian American and Pacific Islander communities, addiction remains hidden behind stigma, shame, and cultural expectations. This workshop shares powerful personal stories of struggle and recovery while examining how culturally responsive treatment approaches can improve access, strengthen engagement, and support healing for individuals and families across Los Angeles County.
