Ever caught yourself changing who you are just to fit in?

When I left my corporate career as a CEO, I struggled with that question more than I expected.

I went from confidently introducing myself through my position to feeling embarrassed and unsure of how to explain what I did.

As AI makes communication more efficient, Luca Allam (@luca.allam), founder and executive communication coach at MasterPitch, sees a growing risk of people losing their distinctive voice in how they write and express themselves.

In his new book, “Talk Human,” Allam explores how people can communicate authentically and build meaningful connections in business in an AI-driven world.

“I fundamentally believe that every single person is unique,” he writes. “Our personalities, backgrounds and lived experiences make us who we are, and that individuality is our greatest value proposition.”

The book combines practical communication principles with experiences from his own life, from growing up across different countries and cultures to becoming a regional CEO, entrepreneur, executive communication coach, and podcaster. Through that journey, he shares how his understanding of connection developed, both with himself and with others.

“Because in a world where everyone has access to artificial intelligence, our greatest competitive advantage is our ability to be genuinely human,” Allam says.

This day was genuinely one of the best days of my life.

I launched my first book Talk Human, watched it become an Amazon best seller across multiple categories, and somehow all of that still wasn't the best part.

On Monday, we officially launched the book at Horizon 52, surrounded by people from so many different parts of my life. Guests from the podcast, people that have taken my training, clients I used to work with, and close friends and family. Then on Friday, I had another opportunity to talk about the book with the Emirates Literature Foundation, with an intimate book signing and open Q&A.

So what was the best part? Sharing it with others. What I loved most about both events actually had very little to do with the book itself. It was just being around people and sharing it with them. What is the point of 'success' if there is no one to connect with?

Having everyone physically there, in the same room, talking, laughing or listening, it felt increasingly rare. Nobody was communicating through an email or sitting behind a laptop. Nobody was asking AI to find the right words for them. We were just people, in a room, connecting with other people and being in the moment, no distractions.

At one point during the launch on Monday, mid-speech, I told everyone that I wanted to take it all in, I was consciously trying to take a mental picture of it all. I felt incredibly connected to everyone there, and I got quite emotional. And I was completely fine with that. If I'm going to write a book about being yourself and giving yourself permission to show people who you really are, then I probably need to live it too.

Afterwards, I received so many messages from people saying how connected they had felt in the room, and for me that's kind of the whole point. It's what I coach, what I train and now what I've written. At the end of all of it, communication is about building human-to-human connection. That's everything.

I think we're going to crave moments like these. Being together. Looking someone in the eye. Having a real conversation. Actually feeling something. Events/gatherings will only become more fundamental to everyday human life, we may start to crave them by @luca.allam
