Do you know what the Americano was before it became the drink we know today?

It wasn’t originally a recipe. Americano was a concept: a vermouth-driven combination with a touch of bitters. Long before the Milano-Torino story and before the first codified Americano recipes, Italian producers were already shipping products described as Americano to the US in the 1850s.

The Americano we know today follows the Milano-Torino formula of the 1930s, when bitter and vermouth appeared in equal parts for the first time, with soda completing the drink.

Before then, Americano recipes followed a different balance: vermouth always led the recipe, with bitters playing a supporting role.

And the lemon zest? Italian bartenders traditionally garnished the Americano with lemon zest. Lemons were available throughout the year, while oranges were considered expensive, almost tropical fruits and were only available seasonally.

This is our twist on the classic, created for one of our clients following that original philosophy.

What a great night.

It was amazing to see so many familiar faces, meet new ones, and take over one of London’s most iconic locations for a few hours.

A big thank you to @cam_jimenex @davidkyleboyd and the incredible Aqua Shard team for the warm welcome and support throughout the evening.

It was an honour to showcase our Rose Compendium menu in such a beautiful setting.

Ci sono storie che iniziano con un “semplice” sì… e poi continuano a crescere, a cambiare forma, a sorprenderti ✨️

Con Valeria e Luca è andata così.
Dal loro matrimonio in Italia, alle strade di Londra per raccontare il loro elopement, fino a oggi, tra l’attesa e la dolcezza della maternità a Edimburgo.

Nel mezzo, non ci sono state solo fotografie.
Ci sono stati ascolto, fiducia, tempo condiviso. Ci sono state conversazioni che andavano ben oltre uno shooting… e quel tipo di connessione che non si può costruire a tavolino: c'è e basta 🤍

È lì che ho capito (ancora una volta) che questo lavoro non riguarda solo ciò che faccio, ma profondamente chi sono.
Perché prima ancora di premere l’otturatore, c’è il modo in cui entro in relazione, il modo in cui guardo, accolgo, sento.

Ogni legame che nasce così lascia un segno 🥹
E ogni storia che continuo a raccontare nel tempo mi ricorda quanto sia prezioso costruire qualcosa di vero, anche (e soprattutto) nel lavoro 🤍

✨ Today marks the end of an incredible chapter. After 3 years, tonight I’ll be pouring my last martini at @velvetbysalvatorecalabrese

Velvet has never been just a bar for me it’s been a home. A place where I could fully express myself, create, and dream big. For that, I want to thank @cocktailmaestro for always believing in me and my crazy ideas, and my amazing team, whose support made every goal possible.

A huge thank you also to the @corinthialondon , for building this beautiful space and giving us the chance to bring it to life.

But today is not only my last day at Velvet, it’s also my last day in London. After 9 years, this city has given me so much: growth, unforgettable experiences, and friendships I’ll carry with me forever.

This is not goodbye, it’s the beginning of something new. Big changes are on the way, so stay tuned…
