Meet 2026 muralist, Lucas Aoki! Lucas (b. Córdoba, Argentina) is an Austin-based artist whose practice spans large-scale murals, contemporary sculpture, and kinetic art. Originally trained in Multimedia Design in Córdoba, he began painting shortly after moving to Austin in 2010. Driven by self-directed research and experimentation, his work explores the spatial dynamics of public settings and the immersive potential of scale.
His public work includes private and corporate commissions for clients such as Microsoft and Meta, alongside participating in international mural festivals including the South Salt Lake Mural Fest, Jacksonville Mural Fest and Corpus Christi Mural Fest.
Expanding beyond two-dimensional surfaces, Lucas extends his visual language into three dimensions. Working with wood, polymer clay, and dynamic mechanisms, his recent sculptures and kinetic pieces investigate form, movement, and spatial interaction.

What exactly is a mural festival? I get that question from time to time.
Well, a mural festival encompasses many things beyond putting some art on walls. I’ve done a handful of festivals. I’m confident to say human connection fostered by art is the main and most important ingredient of all. When you participate in such an event you meet wonderful folks passionate about making it happen. You encounter happy (and sometimes slightly amused) neighbors, encouraging shop owners and curious passersby; you get to meet your heroes (egos of all sizes, shapes, and colors that seem a reflection of yourself) and discover new beautiful souls that you wish you could keep by your side forever. Whether they introduce you to new places, give you your first surf lesson (and help you catch your first wave!), share delicious delicacies, connect over a cold plunge, or become buddies in search of good coffee and meaningful conversations, these are all the special moments that leave a lasting impression. And that’s when you actually have time to hang out 🤣.

You get blown away and find inspiration in other people’s journeys and skills, learn new tricks, discover different approaches, styles and creative processes, not just in art but in life as well. For some of us, it’s a workout, there are moments of highs and lows, back-and-forth; hot, cold and pleasant times, a mix of fluctuating energy, unannounced shifting body aches, as well as moments of intense creative flow and peaceful states of mind. It kinda feels like the longest hike ever, at times. And at the end of it, you’re filled with so much gratitude for having such an opportunity.

“They Come at Nightfall” was my contribution to South Salt Lake Arts. A challenging surface to paint on with a brush, which kinda made me shift my creative approach throughout the process. It’s an honest piece, that reflects my present self. What’s the piece about? I’d rather you tell me :)

For everything you’ve done, Muchas Gracias!!! 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏: @southsaltlakearts @themuralfest @allenarts.me @jetpackjohnson_

And to all the artists: That was fun. Thank you. Let’s do it again 🤗

I’ve always been curious what a 100ft long friendly creature of my creation would look on a wall 😃✅ Huge thanks to @downtowncorpuschristi_ for inviting me to add some creative energy to your walls! 🌊✨

Cuerpo Alado reimagines the Corpus Christi coastline as a living, breathing spirit. A mythical creator of flight, this figure embodies the diverse bird species of our shores while moving with the liquid grace of the sea…

Many of my sculptures have been inspired by old paintings, murals, and drawings. For instance, this one: Fallen Angel. I drew this long time ago. The drawing kept calling to me, urging me to transform it.

It’s such a wonderful thing to bring these characters to life and experience them in 3D. They convey different emotions, they exist in the world in very unique ways 😺

It’s exciting to finally see this character move across the wall! - A closer look in my previous posts -

For years I’ve been drawn to artists who blur the line between stillness and movement — @bluwalls , @gonzaloborondo, and @h_y_u_r_o among them.

This mural was painted as a sequence: the same character shifting step by step, so motion appears through repetition.

A small, quiet tribute to the world of animation that has inspired me since childhood, now living softly on a painted wall.

Meet the Artist....
@lucasaokiart

Lucas Aoki is a multidisciplinary artist whose work weaves together nature, nostalgia, and symbolic imagery. A native of Córdoba, Argentina, and a two-time National Mural Award winner, he conceives evocative public art and immersive installations that foster a shared sense of wonder.

"My art is an exploration of the unique concepts seeded in my childhood. Driven by a lasting sense of wonder, I create whimsical spaces designed to spark joy and nostalgic reflection. I’m influenced by surrealist visionaries who break the mold through out-of-the-box thinking and imaginative world-building."

Fun Fact about Lucas:
"I make fabulous grill pizza over the fire coals when I go camping!"

Welcome to Mural Fest, Lucas!

This piece is called “Casa con Bestia.”

Living in a small house perched atop a colossal beast? Not too bad, huh 👹

This wild creature was inspired by an older sketch. It’s made of polymer clay, wood, wire, paper, and acrylic. Bringing it to life, one scale at a time, was intense but satisfying 😳
