POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Feeling proud and grateful to be able to play with @troyboi at @redrocksco last weekend.

Shout out to the amazing team out there with me. It’s been a journey to achieve this and I owe it to all of my friends along the way.

First on my mind is @eayikes for creating so many environments to experiment, share, and receive. With them I had the courage to paint a solo art show and evolve my medium towards the largest modern canvases I can think of. On top of that, I was able to be involved with creating events and festivals with them!

Thankful for the @sequoia_sunrise community where I was able to meet @karam_universe who has always been there to support my VJ journey. She told me to play every show with 100% of your effort because you never know who’s watching. Solid advice

Can’t forget the @regular.happy fam. JC, @antoniousbig @remo.bang @artyart.lien @mark_viloria @hoonatron who spent the last year putting on shows, pushing creatively together, and making amazing nights happen. Those aren’t over 😉

Thank you everyone one that’s vibed with me on this path. Even the strangers at the high five hallway at EDC LA

I’ll be stepping up this new year to become a Father. Today we were able to listen to their heart beating away at 163 bpm (so special). Up till now my emotions have been manifesting towards nesting and I’m glad that today I shared my first tears of joy with @skybluejenny. Hang out, DJ for each other. I started bringing a midi and HDMI cable to plug into anything (borrowed TVs and projectors at first). I’d also have a generative visualizer that was always in motion revisiting some basics in pixel shredding with a new audio beat following driving different waves and pulses as well as animation speed ratios by @lucaschen.studio

Artwork that I had prepared for a project that hasn’t happened yet.

I “failed” a project, an opportunity to bring it to an upcoming festival. I was naive and jumped in assuming many technical details around LED walls and bought a couple of hard lessons. I had a week to work and found myself in the worst case scenario. It came down to continuing to try different chip configurations through trial and error or pack my clothes to enjoy the festival with my family and friends.

Of course I wanted to continue to hyper fixate on this but had to pull the plug on it so that I can at least enjoy my time with the people I love.

Thanks to everyone that DM’d to help 🫶🏽

Ps. Another lesson is how important realtime interaction is to me. I had a fallback plan to use a working media player on the screens but it ultimately could not stomach how it would make the experience feel dead. It would feel too much like watching a TV rather than a living thing which is the experience my artwork strives to create. by @lucaschen.studio

The IDL scoring system is robust and it wasn’t being celebrated in the final moment. We wanted to be able to showcase it in a way that builds excitement and reinforce transparency in the process.

Ten judging categories, a deduction, and a fan vote number spread across three teams determines the ranking. Manually inputting the values was out of the question so I introduced a generative system that connects the judging platform’s API to the stage. Working closely with the IDL team we came up with the data handshake and Aura Studios for the best way to present all of this information. I used @touchdesigner to generate the video results, @resolume for mapping the multiple outputs and then @bitfocusio Companion to drive the OSC to coordinate the sequence.

When we first revealed it, the audible gasp let me know we have created something to make this moment special.
