"Architecture of Therapy" commissioned by @revuexxi

I was contacted by William Keo and Yegan Mazandarani (ADs), with editor Guillaume Gendron joining the process afterwards (they gave me great support and energy), to create an illustration about emerging research on the therapeutic use of psychoactive substances.

The thoughtful article by Stéphanie Chayet explored how treatments using substances such as psilocybin mushrooms and LSD are being studied as potential therapies for patients suffering from severe addictions and depression that have not responded to conventional psychiatric methods. Rather than framing these substances through their countercultural past, the research highlights methodical clinical protocols, controlled environments, and the guidance of trained therapists throughout the experience, with very promising results.

For the illustration, I chose to move away from the stereotypical psychedelic imagery of the 1970s and instead approach the subject through a more structured surrealism that reflects the scientific rigor behind these studies.

The scene portrays a patient confronting visions of his addictions that press in around him. As the therapeutic process unfolds, the front wall opens into a vast landscape filled with nature and light. This transformation emerges through an emotional reconnection with a long-felt absence of love rooted in childhood, turning a space of confinement into one of tenderness, possibility, and celebration. The symbolic narrative seeks to highlight the powerful act of reinterpreting one’s past, to discover new paths toward healing and new ways of living.

Some tests that I did to create my new aesthetic, now I’ll go for real projects/artworks🙏

On the other hand, I’ve heard and read about the hard times the creative industry is going through, maybe because of the recession, the global economy, politics, AI, etc. It’s good to stay aware and create better strategies, and at the core, it doesn’t really matter. Everything is uncertain, and art has never been an easy path. The only thing that truly depends on me, and that I am responsible for, is doing my work well and staying creative, focused on creating art and business from studies, health and soul.

Even when I’m afraid, when I cry, or when I’m full of doubts, I’ll keep creating, because mastery only comes through practice.

Even if I sell just one print, I’ll keep learning, keep releasing, and I’ll sell more over time.

Even if I get only one like.

Even if I have to take other jobs to support my life.

I will never stop creating, expressing what feels honest, what feels essential to living an authentic life, to honoring this one chance we have to exist.

Even if AI can create something similar to my art, it will not (for now) do exactly what I do or express what I need to, because my art emerges through the sketches and the process itself (I use AI, especially to work from references, and maybe for more things in the future). And if AI revolutionizes the creative industry and there’s less work for artists, I’ll find a way.

I’ll continue, when it’s necessary, swimming against the current, against the IG algorithm, against conventional norms, against parts of society that resist reflection or freedom (especially when I question things from an anarchist, spiritual, or anti-authoritarian point of view).

It's not about resistance or rebellion against the system through art. Now I’m simply living my life with humility, strong commitment, and acceptance of what it takes to be healthy, to be who I am, to be an artist, and helping others through it, and that, unintentionally, is already rebellious.

That’s the deepest commitment to myself, to life, to my art, and to others, and I’ll keep deepening it for as long as I live.

Thanks for reading, Im here to support❤️ by @lucasleonart

One of my favorite quotes by Gilles Deleuze, it’s dark and optimistic, like any real optimism: without innocence about power relations.

I’m very happy to announce that my new website www.lucasleon.art is now open!🪩

[Link in BIO]

💻 I spent the last three months working on it, studying web design and portfolio courses by @domestika (so useful and meaningful tips, thank you so much!), and everything I could about building a strong commercial illustration portfolio (specially from videos by @theillustratorsguide. I’m deeply grateful to you James, for your love and commitment to our industry), and now it’s finally done.

🖼️ I’m showing a fine selection of my artworks organized by category, with details about each project’s brief and my visual solution in their descriptions, images of their creative process and/or final product, and samples of the new aesthetic I developed for this new chapter of my career (the same one used in this poster). My "about" page is a clear and organized CV with sections about my philosophy of life and art. All of this is a very good summary of who I am as an artist. I did it with focused love, solving things the best way possible with what I have. Even without being a web designer, I feel very happy and proud of the result and of making it this way.

🙏 Also, I’m very grateful to @squarespace, because during this process, I filled them with questions about specific capabilities of their platform, and we searched for solutions to details. They gave me very good feedback, especially Estíbaliz A., she is great. I’m also deeply grateful to @arsnaturalis (botanical illustrator) and @sofiaenriquezg (art curator and mentor), my soul friends who gave me their generous and professional views, time, and love on this project, I love you so much Pasqui and Sofia. And to @marlen_marcano + @homosart (ceramist, meditator guide and mentor), my heart partner in our romantic and spiritual path, who also shared her wise vision for cleaner ways to make it, I love you deeply mi amor. Thank you so much to all, truly, from my heart❤️

I once lost a friend because we worked together without a contract and clear conditions (please, never do that, a good contract is also a form of love).

When you keep your word without fairness or care, it can become a prison instead of a self-knowledge path.

💡So I learned that integrity needs limits.
And here’s what the school of life (pain) taught me:

• Don’t give your word blindly.
• Don’t keep it blindly over time.

Keeping a word is a wise commitment with conditions.
It must be thoughtful, not impulsive, it needs to be fair, healthy, and real for yourself, and for both sides if it’s with another person.

Integrity isn’t rigidity, it’s a balance between the growth of commitment and freedom.

🫡 Integrity means keeping your word with full commitment, and also having the integrity to know the limit when keeping it would break yourself, your health, the peace of your consciousness, and your sense of justice.

💬 I would love to read your opinion about this, and here are some questions if you want to share more:

• What’s the hardest lesson you’ve learned about keeping your word?
• Have you ever kept a promise that ended up hurting you?
• What does “integrity” mean to you?

Thanks!🫶

From where do you observe when you contemplate life?

When I spend a few hours working on my iPad, I take a break to look out my window, and I see a hill, a palm tree, life, existence… and I enter a solemn session of contemplation, like entering a temple where one understands that silence must be kept, that there is respect for a sacred space.

I observe nature for a moment, and I’m always serenely amazed, It’s an existential amazement for what I see, for what I feel, for all this cellular technology that allows me to see this, and that has managed to function up to the point of making me conscious. I am amazed that, out of the infinite ways the universe could have existed, and the infinite ways life could have appeared, I exist in this one and I contemplate from the natural laws of this one, when none of this could have ever existed at all.

Do we really understand the dimension of that?

For me, it always feels ungraspable, and I see life as something so strange and bizarre at its core, as something produced by infinite luck. Considering how uncertain the probabilities are that this exists from nothing is like winning one million great lotteries every day and living in a transcendental magic trick. This leaves me speechless at the impossibility of this existing, and yet, here we are.

When people say “seeing is believing”, I invert it into “I see it, and I can’t believe it.” This is an immeasurable level of fantasy (If someone feels existential anguish with what I’m saying, I suggest embracing it, because this fantasy is real, and that means you’re alive. I believe that we are too civilized in the cities and by propaganda to really connect with nature, from there, we reject existence, and this anguish appears because we are too blocked in our brains of cement).

✍️ This is a core principle of my philosophy of life.
What is good for your elder years is good for you now.

💪 When you take responsibility for your later years, by training your mind, body, emotions, relationships, and spirit, you gain the greatest benefit: a higher quality of life, both now and to carry it as gracefully as possible into your final years. That way, you can keep doing what you love, with your being capable and available for it for as long as possible.

🙏 It becomes a spiritual journey of self-knowledge, a practice of being present, and a training in making conscious choices about what genuinely nourishes you and your body from a mortal perspective (we will die, and we only have this one life. For me, the awareness of death is the foundation for appreciating, being grateful, and making the most of this rare and precious opportunity to be alive).

💬 What do you think about this idea? I’d love to read your thoughts in the comments.
