Meet Matthew Hilber, the newest editor to join the Lucky Day roster — though “newest” doesn’t quite tell the whole story. Matthew has been collaborating with the Lucky Day team as a freelancer for years, and now he’s officially making himself at home.

A Portland native, lifelong musician, former furniture maker, and newly minted youth lacrosse dad and enthusiast, Matthew has collected plenty of interests along the way. But editing has remained the throughline since the day he discovered iMovie and decided, almost by accident, that he was hooked.

Some people chase the spotlight. Fernanda Toledo is more interested in making sure the spotlight lands exactly where it's supposed to. As our new staff Online Conform Editor, she's the calm, detail-oriented force helping projects make the leap from editorial to final delivery—without ever losing the creative spark that made them special in the first place.

When she's not piecing together final masters, she's chasing live blues music, exploring the open road on her motorcycle, or convincing us all to stay a little more curious. We sat down with @sundancekid to chat about life in finishing, the art of solving puzzles, and the adventures waiting beyond the edit suite. How do you get started as a freelance commercial video editor? What’s expected of you day-to-day? How do you get paid? Don’t worry, we got you.

As a first step in sharing our findings, we recently presented this information to a group of ambitious folks at @opensignalpdx , a media arts center in Portland, OR. It was a great time, and based on the feedback we received, our efforts weren’t completely in vain.

We're delighted to welcome Jenn Mersis, our new Head of Production, to the Lucky Day team!

Before joining us, Jenn spent years bouncing between agency and post worlds, building a deep understanding of both sides of the process. She’s the kind of producer who can talk timelines, codecs, team chemistry, client relationships, and creative instincts all in the same breath — while also somehow making time to discuss interior design, her two military dogs, and the very serious artistry of hobby horsing (jk).

We sat down with Jennifer to talk about leadership, collaboration, post-production realities, and why a successful project is less about perfection and more about getting everyone through the process feeling heard.
