So here she is… after 18months of chewing the end of my pencil wondering if the right words would ever form an actual readable sentence, 1000’s of photographs, holding my breath waiting for just the right light and praying the flowers didn’t collapse before it came and hundreds of thanks to so many wonderful people that have gone above and beyond to make this happen. Thank you Andrea and T @jardin_de_buis, your home and garden provide endless inspiration & incredible backdrops. TJ @t.j._mcgrath_design & your gorgeous Andrew for welcoming me into your home and lives and traipsing for hours without demure along the high line in NYC in the horizontal rain. Frances @francespalmer for those exquisite urns, Amy & Steve @laughinggoatflowerfarm and Brig @brigittegirling for your gardens and always Vicks @maisonartefact for friendship & props to die for.

This is what she’s about.
The landscape and nature have provided inspiration for artists and creatives for a millennia. But in our effort to fulfil societies expectations for a busy and productive life how often do we take the time to just ‘stop and wonder’ for a while and let the natural world, in all her extraordinary guises inspire and refuel our creativity?
I invite you to journey with me to some of the places and spaces that
inspire and inform my work as a creative floral artist and garden designer back in the studio.
From the romance of the countryside, the ever changing light of the coast, drama of the
mountains and the interwoven lives we have cultivated with nature in our urban places.
This is about those hidden stories in the landscape, how we connect to them daily. It is how we can all take inspiration from nature and the landscape and how to scale it down to fill our homes and lives.
I encourage you to pause & look, to observe the fine detail and inspire your mind with the greatest possibilities for filling our world with floral arrangements, creativity and beauty.
There are projects for you to try at home, oodles of flowers & gentle musings throughout.
This is about creating a floral love story.

A pot full of pens (none of which now work but I probably won’t throw out, just sigh a lot about), thousands of images, over 30,000 words (most in my editors bin), generosity, warmth and friendship from people across the globe, a small army determined to make it work, flowers flowering their little hearts out, landscapes that make life feel complete and a lifetime of thanks to give.
I present to you all with a battering heart, a slightly wobbly lip , shaky knees and a huge sense of pride my second book.

The Flower Hunter, Creating a floral love story inspired by the landscape.
Published by my rather fabulous publishers @rylandpetersandsmall on 12th September 2023.

Preorders now available…. thank you xxxxx

(More to come…. now off to plant 2,000 plants for a clients garden….. keeping it real!!) Xxx

So here she is, my book... and I thought I should possibly tell you what it’s about, as well as lots of photos of seasonal flowers and gardens....
We live in a fast paced, gilded and sometimes hollow aspirational world, where sometimes you just need to have the courage to take time to listen to your creative voice and forge your own version of perfection.
Following a seasonal year in the garden, my floral studio in the mountains of North Wales and some of the landscapes, gardens and people that provide me with the greatest inspiration, I gently look to encourage the reader to look for wonder and beauty in the familiar, elevate the ordinary into the extraordinary, and allow yourself time to make your creative life as good as it can be... right now.
There are projects for you to make lavish, spilly urns filled with flowers from your garden in Autumn, tables laid with flowers for entertaining with friends in early Summer, flower arches to transport you to a different world for an afternoon in Spring and journals to make and inspire in Winter.
It’s published on October 12th by @rylandpetersandsmall and while that seems an age away I’m assured by my Editor it will come around all too quickly and I really need to stop wafting and get on with finishing up the last few strands...
It’s available for pre order now (links in bio).
Anyway... enough about that...wishing you a very beautiful and Sunny Sunday wherever you are. Xx taken in North Wales by @lucytheflowerhunter

The home is a still point of a
 turning world.
T.S Elliot.

We are so excited to say that ‘The Flower Hunter’ wallpapers and fabrics are now represented and available in Australia with Lisa Burdus @burdusandco

It was our desire to create paper and fabric collections
that capture the beauty in the everyday ordinary and to
become your heirlooms of the future.

Printed from my hand painted designs, the inspiration for all our papers and fabrics come from noticing the subtle, seasonal shifts in the garden, how the flowers form a timeless dance, following the light and creating pattern, texture and form without ever loudly announcing themselves.

Available to view @burdusandco in Sydney this week and Melbourne next week. by @lucytheflowerhunter

And just like that Autumn is here again.
Wood smoke in the early morning air. A cold nip around your ankles as you open the door just a crack with a steaming coffee in hand.
Shiny horse chestnuts on the pavements that even as a middle aged adult I can’t resist picking up and leaves beginning to turn the colour of copper pennies and scarlet hues.
My favourite season…. well until Spring…. and then summer.. Xx by @lucytheflowerhunter

Two from my archives and another more recent, while we house hunt, garden hunt and wonder if our terracotta pots will arrive in time to be planted up with Tulips for the spring.
It’s funny what you think you’ll miss when you’re packing up your house and home the otherside of the Atlantic, and what you actually miss 6 weeks on. ‘Definitely won’t need those’ I thought looking at my leather gardening boots while even my flip flops felt too hot in the blistering heat of the South Carolina sun.

But we are grateful to be here and even more grateful to be able to sleep with the window open and have a blanket on the bed. Xx by @lucytheflowerhunter

How many pots are too many pots? This actually isn’t a question I wrestle with too much as the answer is surely obvious, but thinking our shippers may not have the same outlook come next week when we pack up our home and move back across the Atlantic!

Another new chapter with sprout, another new garden. Xx

The heat of the Summer. When your flip loses its flop and you eat more ice cream than is good for anyone.

Happy Sunday. Xx

If life gives you lemons … or green tomatoes, then I’d suggest, after a moments contemplation (in a large box if necessary)a waft by the ocean and a huge ice cream. Cut some flowers from your garden for the table and give thanks to the home and landscape that has held you so tightly and provided such joy and solace when you most needed it.

Thank you Kiawah Island. Xx

From her grandmother’s garden in England to the acre-long plot she curated in North Wales, Lucy Hunter never anticipated that she would someday cultivate a lush container garden here in the Lowcountry—but that is exactly where fate led. Now drawing inspiration from the wild beauty of Kiawah Island and its native flora, Lucy relishes in the challenge and joy of her new coastal environment.

Sometimes other people can find the words for what you’ve been trying to say far better than you can.

Thank you to @homesandgardensofficial for this lovely Garden Diaries feature, and an extra special thank you to @teniellejordisonjourno and @rachelbullgardens for writing and capturing it so thoughtfully.

The full piece is linked in my bio, if you’d like to read along.

Xx Lucy
