From contentment, unsurpassed happiness is gained.
— Yoga SuĢ„tra 2.42

It’s easy to place happiness just beyond our reach—after the next achievement, external accolades, or the moment life finally goes according to plan. We can become so used to working toward fulfillment that we forget to notice when something already feels good. This Niyama invites us to cultivate contentment within, rather than making our peace dependent on specific outcomes or external circumstances.

This practice begins in small ways: giving ourselves permission to rest, noticing what sustains us, and meeting our limitations with kindness. A quiet breath. Time with someone we love. Sunlight on a corner of the mat. These moments deserve our attention, even when there is still work to do.

Contentment also asks us to loosen our need for control—to trust that we can meet uncertainty without having all the answers. We can make space for grief and difficulty without overlooking what remains good.

As we spend less energy proving our worth, more becomes available for connection and service. We can offer our attention, our care, and our particular gifts without asking each contribution to earn us recognition.

Santosha is a daily practice of tending to this inner sense of enough, allowing it to shape how we care for ourselves and what we offer the world. taken in Bowen Island, British Columbia by @lucyyog

Some mornings the body feels open, some mornings it doesn’t. Some days the mind settles, other days it resists.

Still, we practice.

Not to perfect the body or to manufacture a particular state, but to cultivate steadiness—to remain present and meet whatever experience arises. by @lucyyog

Let’s celebrate adult friendships that allow our inner child feel safe being silly—the ones that make room for both deep conversations and completely unserious moments. Growing up is inevitable, but luckily, growing boring is optional 🤪✨ taken in Zenden by @lucyyog

I wish I could say one decision changed everything. It didn’t.
But choosing to return to my practice—again and again—eventually became the turning point.

Yoga gave me a place to slow down, breathe, and reconnect with myself when my mind felt impossible to quiet. Over time, it became more than a physical practice. It taught me how to sit with discomfort instead of escaping it, observe myself through difficult moments, and meet myself with more grace and compassion.

Progress isn’t linear. My life certainly isn’t perfect now, neither am I. I still lose my balance and find myself caught in old patterns at times. However, I have better tools, a deeper connection with God, and more trust in my path. I’m learning to hold effort and surrender together.

I’m slowly becoming someone my 2016 self desperately needed.
If you’re in that chapter now, please don’t mistake where you are for where you’ll always be. šŸ¤

* If you wish to quiet the fluctuations of the mind, practice yoga.

* If you wish to witness your thoughts without becoming them, practice yoga.

* If you wish to remain steady amid pleasure and pain, practice yoga.

* If you wish to loosen your attachment to what comes and goes, practice yoga.

* If you wish to see clearly, beyond habit and illusion, practice yoga.

* If you wish to remember the stillness beneath all movement, practice yoga.

* If you wish to return to the truth of who you are, practice yoga.

If you seek yoga only in the posture, look deeper. The body is the doorway—not the destination.

Allow yourself to be seen while you’re becoming.

I used to want to be good at something before I let anyone see me doing it. I would practice quietly and wait for an IMAGINARY moment when I finally felt ā€œreadyā€ enough to put myself out there.

But lately, I’ve been trying something different:
letting myself be a beginner where people can actually see me.

Teaching before I have every cue perfected. Sharing while I’m still finding my voice. Trying things I might not be good at yet. Letting the awkward, uncertain stages exist without hiding them.

Because I’m starting to realize that ā€œreadyā€ isn’t a place I arrive at before I begin.

It’s something I become through beginning.
And maybe the biggest change isn’t that I feel more ready now. It’s that I’m much more willing to be seen while I’m becoming.

I left my job in finance to pursue my passion in yoga and it’s a bit scary to admit that…

* I chose to leave the life that I was familiar with for a life I believe in. Some days it feels brave. Most days I’m still finding my way to live with the uncertainties.

* I worked for the same company for over 13 years and the same team for almost a decade. It took me years after sensing the misalignment to take the final step.

* There’s this pressure I carry to make my parents proud, especially as the only child in the family - it means a lot to me, but honestly, the weight of that expectation feels heavier than I allow myself to admit.

* It took me two resignations to actually leave my full-time job. I put in my resignation request a year and half ago. My employer offered me more money so I took the offer and stayed even though I knew it was time to move on. Talk about non-attachment, I was definitely not embodying that.

* There are moments when I wish yoga had been part of my life from a younger age instead of in my late 20’s, so I’d be more ā€œadvancedā€ in my practice.

* I sometimes worry that turning something I love into my work might change my relationship with it. Yoga has been a place of healing and source of profound insights, and I’m still learning how to share it, make a living from it, and protect what makes it sacred at the same time.

Being vulnerable in a public space is scary—but growth often begins when we allow ourselves to be seen and heard.

So I’m using this challenge as a gateway to share my journey of betting on myself and starting over in my late 30’s. If you’re rebuilding your life - at any age - you’re not late nor alone. If you need a safe place to do the same, this is it šŸ¤ follow along ✨ by @lucyyog

Here comes part 2 of what I do to ground myself while traveling or on the go.

I received a suggestion to try oil massage of the soles of my feet after posting the part 1 of this series. Thanks @rashmi_ayurveda šŸ™šŸ¤ I think I’m a fan! šŸ¤—šŸ™Œ

My grounding practice while on-the-go | Part 1: Breath & Sound

Travel fills me with inspiration, but constant movement and stimulation can also leave me feeling scattered and depleted.

When I notice these Vata-like qualities arising, I begin with two practices I can carry almost anywhere: breath and sound.

Bhramari helps me turn inward. Nadi Shodhana invites balance. Mantra gives my mind a steady rhythm on which to rest.
