POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Back in February, I caught bullpens for the Baltimore Orioles in spring training.

I learned about preparation, pitch mix, and the work that is put in during spring training. I also assisted the pitchers in their rehab drills, stood in on catching drills and got to know some of the guys on the 40-man.

Through my experience, I was able to pass down what I learned to my kids and saw immediate results in the lessons and eventually in their games.

Thank you to the Orioles for trusting me in the clubhouse and thank you @tyler_anzmann for getting me connected with this opportunity. taken in Sarasota by @lugo.baseball

We started with hip and mobility stretches, followed by walking into our 1 knee down stances and using that momentum to block on both sides of the plate.

From there we did our game like stances and got plenty of work in. by @lugo.baseball

Love working with Riley. Continues to get better everyday and already a step ahead as he transitions to the bigger field! taken in Top Gun Batting Cages - Sykesville by @lugo.baseball

Best of luck to you Lewis. Happy to be a part of your journey and hope we get another bullpen session in soon!

Lewis features a fastball in the low 90s with heavy, sinking movement. A sharp curveball that he can throw for strikes on command, a changeup that stops mid air and falls out of the strike zone, and a sweeper that if you compared the break to my height, it would be taller than me. Definitely would need to throw it behind a lefty in order to get it in the zone. Catching you was FUN! taken in Top Gun Batting Cages - Sykesville by @lugo.baseball

Making this video I realized all these players are catchers! 3 years ago this is what i've always wanted. Being a resource for catchers looking to get better!

Camden:
Being ready to hit on the first pitch fastball and being rewarded for it! He gets better every time I see him and LOVES the game. Very rare finding a catcher that can catch barrels like him.

Riley:
Throwing runners out all season. Riley has no wasted movement on this throw and will be a huge benefit for him as he transitions to the big field!

Nathan:
Another catcher making the transition to the big field. Working on exchange time and feeling what its like to have perfect form on throw downs. Nathan is already 1 step ahead of the competition!

Kyle:
This kid DRIVES now! Not only on the road but in the cages. We're working on getting ready to swing before the pitch is thrown so we can identify what pitch is coming and if it is a strike or a ball longer. After noticing he didn't like the first pitch, he drives the 2nd pitch for a 77mph PR to left center!

Jase:
After a successful season, Jase is looking for more rotational power. We are working on loading/coiling his hip correctly so he can snap at the ball more. Great bat to ball skills!

Gabe:
Newest catcher to the Lugo Catcher Development roster. Very green but already seeing results after the first lesson. We identified that he is a left knee up kind of catcher and we are working on framing the low and outside fastballs. Gabe is a quick learner and has a cannon for an arm! by @lugo.baseball
