After the recent devastating fires, it felt surreal to be treated to some winter conditions in the Grampians over the weekend. With the support of friends and many, many pads, I was psyched to to flash the imposing ‘Rama’ (V9/7C), a beautiful boulder that climbs as good as it looks 👀 After a summer of training indoors, it was such a joy to be outside again. One for the books thanks to @llmikeyj @morgan.jmc @_tylermatthews 🙏🏼 by @lukehansen__

Kia tupato te Taniwha // Beware the Monster

Amongst the forest of Leanganook sits this incredible, imposing boulder. I had been saving this one for a good ground-up, first attempt.

After spending the morning trying the sit start to Sound and Colour, I strolled around to check the Monster - to my delight, I found it chalked up with even a fixed line from the top.

On my first attempt, I made it through the low crux, only to fall turning onto the slab - turns out, Board climbing doesn’t translate well to granite mantles 🤷🏽‍♀️ The next attempt was more successful, and I found myself atop this incredible boulder.

@mark.unhinged kudos for developing such an amazing bloc - my experience on this one will stick with me for quite some time 🙏🏼

With the depths of Winter seemingly behind us, I’m really looking forward to taking the last few months of board climbing to the rocks 🫡

I’ve really enjoyed learning the nuances of the Tension Board2 - the combination of wood and dual-tex grips, as well as bad feet, feels the most similar to the subtleties required for climbing outside 🌳

I’m also feeling very grateful to be joining the @bluedinosaurbars team - I’ve been a long term fan of the high-quality ingredients used in these bars. They’re a delicious snack for between burns on the board or outside 🙏🏼

🌀Silver Platter (V12/8A+) 🌀
Psyched to have climbed this @nalle_hukkataival gem 🙏🏼 it’s been a while since I’ve experienced flow in my climbing - Having spent the last couple of years purely bouldering, something about single hard moves has prevented me from tapping into this state. Today was a little different - having rapped and cleaned Silver Platter, the moves felt beyond me, let alone linking them together with a little spice of height 🌶️ Then, it all clicked in one moment - I’m still not really sure how. Perhaps my favourite boulder I’ve climbed 🌀

I didn’t make it to South Africa this year - First @loveaoifeyoga did a right old number on her ankle 🩼 Then, I did a right old number on booking flights 🙄 I took it as a sign from the universe that this wasn’t the time. Incredibly grateful to have spent the last couple of weeks in Gariwerd instead (it’s better anyway 🤫).

It’s been a hot minute since I’ve packed my bag for an overseas climbing trip 🥵 The last time was 2019 for some pumpy Spanish limestone 😵‍💫 Psyched to be joining what seems to be the rest of the Australian climbing community on some South African boulders in less than a month 👀🔥🇿🇦
