Review: There’s something so correct about reading some Heartstopper on a summers day. Such wholesome reading. So easy to read. An absolute delight to spend more time with these adorable characters.

The story coming to an end was bittersweet. It kept its same vibe as always, while really coming to appropriate ends for the characters.

Now I can watch the movie! So excited!

Review: Concert time! The big popstar arrives on stage for the performance in her home town. Her family are watching. Then - she’s shot.

Stevie takes it upon herself to discover who killed her sister. The book has twists and turns where she interviews different suspects, all of which have an alibi.

I love the premise. And I was expecting so much. I thought it would be addictive and hard to put down. Sadly, I found it dull. Each page felt very much the same. Even the reveal of the killer just made me go ā€œoh, okayā€ instead of 🤯🤯🤯

I don’t think my heart was in this book after the initial 30 pages. I just powered through to the finish line to say I finished it. I wouldn’t recommend - but at the same time, maybe this book just isn’t for me.

A shame. But onwards and upwards!

Review: I always love to read a gay book during pride month. This book was very adorable, with two very sweet leads, juggling the hobby of cosplay with the pressures of coming out.

The coming out journey that Luca goes on is probably the books highlight and strongest point. And each chapter flickers from the past to the present day, which creates a nice flow.

But honestly, I did feel not a lot happened. They meet - and it’s cute. And in the present they’re at a cosplay competition, but not together, they’re competing against each other.

It had positives and drama, which I liked. But I also felt I could put this book down easily - which I did.

ā€œThe Teacherā€ by Freida McFadden

I got my mum this book for Mother’s Day and she completely devoured it and told me I had to read it. My only experience of Freida McFadden is the Housemaid movie - which I liked - so I was interested to dip my toe into her literary works.

The Teacher was a banging story to start with. It starts batting from Eve and Addie’s points of views. Eve is a teacher, who has the perfect husband (also a teacher) and they work at a school where Addie is a student. Addie had gotten a teacher fired last year, her dad had died and since has been bullied and outcast by everyone believing she slept with the fired teacher.

It’s a really good book of not knowing who to trust. I didn’t trust ANYONE.

Addie was sketchy. She kept things deliberately vague in her POV sections.

Eve was unlikeable. Could see why characters around her never gave her the time of day.

Nate, her perfect husband, was SO perfect it made me question what was lingering underneath.

Hudson, Addie’s sort of ex-boyfriend was the silent type. Weird.

Kenzie - the school bully - was just a bitch.

And Mr Tuttle? Well, how did a student get you fired? What did you do?

I had red flags everywhere and I didn’t like anyone. But that didn’t detract from the twists and turns this book went on. Although, I did care much for these characters, the story was constantly pumping with such insane delivery that I found it hard to put down. Seriously, read it in 2 nights!

Even the final page had my jaw needing to be collected off the floor. If this is what Freida McFadden is like then sign me up for more!

Fancied a comic book after reading a trilogy as they’re slightly easier to devour than a novel. Batman has always rated as my top comic book character; and when I went to the comic book store last year and saw this supernatural take - I had to buy it. The cover glows in the dark too šŸ˜

The story felt fresh. The tone was bleak and dark. The characters were great. Loved the comedy lines from some of them. But the deeper and darker lines were also appreciated.

It was a wild ride. Batman, a Werewolf, Man-Bat. What more can one ask for? Legitimately would’ve been a perfect read at Halloween!!

Review: The third and final instalment of the Frostheart series was as incredible as I wanted it to be. The stakes were high, the emotion was strong and the story was solid.

Our characters and story has reached its ultimate endgame climax and I think it was a really good and fitting end to the trilogy.

Questions were answered. All the Stormbreaker scenes were brilliant, and had an underlying emotion that Jamie Littler has written incredibly well.

The highlight for me was learning more about Tobu the Yeti and his past. Such a tragic story that isn’t focused on a lot - but I’m glad we got what we did. Such an underrated MVP character of this entire trilogy.

Loved. Shocked at the ending - almost cried. And I liked the epilogue - which NEVER happens! I’d recommend!

Review: What a fantastic continuation. The world-building and character work of this story really are the highlights. I’ve never really read anything like it.

Ash continues his journey, but this time with more twists and turns. Friends turn enemies, revelations happen, ending in a cliffhanger so good that I’m relieved I’ve got the next instalment ready to go.

Slight middle-book-syndrome where I feel a lot of the latter half was building up to book 3, but hey, if they pull it off then it’s all worth it!

Review: This trilogy has caught my eye for the last few years every time I enter a bookshop. I brought them last year and have decided 2026 is the year to pick them up and dive in.

What a fantastical world to dive into, as well. So vivid and colourful with its world-building. Every bit as magical as those classic Narnia and His Dark Materials style stories, with all the unique edge of more modern classics like Avatar: The Last Airbender thrown in for good measure.

Ash, an immediately likeable lead, is a Song Weaver. Perhaps destined with enough power to stop the Leviathans. All the while his guardian is a Yeti, they join a crew aboard the Frostheart and come across a Crow Witch, while looking for his real parents.

So many elements, but it never feels thrown in or chaotic, it’s balanced so expertly that you’re turning each page with an eagerness to not only learn about this world - but also these characters.

I can sometimes feel a bit bogged down in the middle of a trilogy or a series - but at this point in time, I’m excited to continue my Frostheart journey with great interest!

Review: I stumbled across this book by chance in Waterstones and my inner-Merlin-fan couldn’t help but purchase. ā€œThe path to true love never did run straight?ā€ Sign me up!

Gwendoline and Arthur are supposed to be married. And basically being named after Arthur Pendragon and Guinevere - it seems everyone expects them to be married. The only issue? Gwen likes Bridget and Arthur likes Gabriel.

This book ticked a lot of Luke boxes.
It had a comforting lgbt focus, with some genuine funny characters and moments. Pure medieval vibes, including a serious climactic battle towards the end.

It took me a while to read - but I had fun with Gwen and Art at every turn! šŸ°

Review: my friend got me this book for Christmas and I’m so glad he did. It’s genuinely one of the very best books I have ever read in my life!

Seb finds himself on a programme to help teenagers navigate their mental health. Happy Head is supposed to be a good thing - even his parents are proud of him, just for being selected. But Happy Head is darker on the inside than the outside would suggest.

It’s a brilliant book, bringing in that YA *slight* dystopian vibe that I really enjoy. Taking me back to reading my favourite books like the Hunger Games, the Maze Runner and Divergent.

It tackles sexuality as well. The challenges that gay kids can face, even in the 21st Century. It was horrible when it wanted to be, super uncomfortable at times, but forever a fantastic page turner. What a start to my 2026 reading journey!

Review: My friend was adorable enough to buy me the illustrated anniversary addition of Catching Fire for Christmas. Overjoyed, because I’m always ready to dive back into the world of The Hunger Games.

Catching Fire is definitely my favourite of the movies. It’s probably my second favourite of the books. Adore it. This is everything a sequel should be. A continuation from that first story, but more intense, dark, emotional, sexy, epic. It ticks a lot of boxes.

When vou’re so used to the movies - it’s alwavs nice to focus on the bits that didn’t make it when you re-read. A highlight of this book for me was always Katniss and Peeta’s approaching wedding. Something the movie doesn’t make that much of a big deal out of. The wedding hype in this book is REAL and huge and I love the drama of it all.

The build-up to District 13 is more apparent in this book than the movie 2. With the two people escaping District 8.
AND adored getting an insight to Haymitch’s games when I read this the first time - way back when - but it was fascinating reading those bits now having read Sunrise on the Reaping. Maysilee is even mentioned in this book!!
Suzanne Collins is a sensational world-builder!

I. Love. The. Hunger. Games. Books.

AND look how sexy the illustrations are - especially Finnick - woof!

Review: I brought this book based on the blurb. To summarise: Tilda lives on the island of Ayrie. A new boy, Albie, arrives but hates the island. Determined to make him love it, Tilda takes Albie to the secret island that all Ayrie kids know is forbidden. The one that is haunted.

All I need is the promise of a ghost and I’m sold. On the whole, it was quite a cute basic story. Tilda loves the island and the Puffins and misses her brother. Albie comes along but hates it until he’s taken to the island.

It’s spooky. Wind howls. Voices murmur. But ultimately, it’s just spooky in vibe. Islanders just tell scary stories to frighten people.

Although this book was kind of cute and wholesome, I also found myself wishing it was more. Not a lot happens throughout the story. Albie goes missing as a storm approaches, and that’s as exciting as it got for me.

Definitely has some cute moments, but not a favourite of mine, I’m afraid… by @lukeyreads
