We put a complete LumberCon deck to the fire and we’re finally ready to share what happened. 🔥

The deck was built entirely from LumberCon, including both the surface planks and supporting structure. The surface planks spanned 3 feet and supported 384 pounds while the deck was exposed to fire for 60 minutes.

When the fire was extinguished at the one-hour mark, the LumberCon deck remained intact with no visible signs of structural failure.

For the second stage, we kept the LumberCon substructure in place and replaced only the surface planks with a commonly used composite decking material. We wanted to observe how a more traditional decking material would react when exposed to fire in the setup shown.

Separate from this filmed demonstration, LumberCon’s concrete material has been independently evaluated as noncombustible in accordance with ASTM E136. ASTM E84 testing also reported a Flame Spread Index of 0 and a Class A flame-spread classification.

A spider on your deck is just a spider.

The best decks aren’t just built to last. They’re built to be lived on.

One of our favorite pieces of feedback from this project came from the homeowners: they love how the concrete feels beneath their bare feet: cool, solid, and grounding. It has become a space the entire family, especially the kids, genuinely enjoys spending time on.
