Very excited to announce the first release of LuNo.

El Tambo is a Washed Colombian coffee from the Cauca region. This Castillo varietal is grown by a group of smallholder's at 1850-2100MASL and is sourced by @88graines in Paris.

This has been roasted for espresso/moka pot and is giving lots of red fruit, molasses and dark chocolate vibes with a hint of lemon also. I really enjoy it as espresso but it makes a mean americano and flat white too.

The wonderful @aitiuil in Barna are my first stockist and I'm extremely grateful to Aoife for giving me the chance to showcase my coffee in such a wonderful space. It feels surreal to see the bags beside so many incredible Irish products.

The website and online release is a while away yet so please get on down to Barna and try a bag for yourself. As always, feedback good, bad and ugly is welcome.

(Announcement coming soon for a city centre stockist in another beautiful Galway cafe).

Sneak peaks...

Quite surreal to announce that I'm the proud owner of a god damn coffee roaster.

I am beyond excited to learn this craft.

The artisans of the coffee world are people I have long respected and admired. The rock stars of my 30s.

Turning green grassy beans into wondrous roasted delights is a truly magical thing.

The current standard of specialty coffee in Ireland and beyond is pretty intimidating. But hey, we all gotta start somewhere right?

I'm planning on getting to know this Aillio Bullet R2 Pro quite well over the coming months until I have a palatable product, but I am beyond buzzed for it.

Please stay tuned for updates, inevitable disasters, hopefully some triumphs and much more on the LuNo story and mission.

The coffee might not always be aesthetic and the latte art might not always be a tulip (in hindsight, maybe I should’ve filmed that one lol), but that’s the beauty of a daily coffee ritual, isn’t it?

Not every cup has to be perfect to be enjoyed🤪 (the second cup was for mr.coffeegirlandmore who is too shy to feature hehe)

Le drop 🫘

The end of a roast has a lot going on.

A lot of mental clutter can develop trying to concentrate on:

•First crack (did I hear that right?!)
•Rate of rise
•Development time
•Power application
•Air settings
•Drum speed
•End of roast temperature

But it's a proper thrill when those beautiful beans come flying out.

Now it's time to measure weight loss, inspect, colour sort, remove defective beans, cup, taste and if they're up to scratch, release them into the world.

Delighted to announce that the new kid on the coffee block @korneronthelane is now stocking Luno El Tambo espresso.

Honoured to see my coffee for sale in my hometown and in such a wonderful space.

Naoise and her team have created a vibrant, buzzy and spacious cafe in the medieval Kirwans lane, serving beautiful coffee, treats and a sensational retail section with a strong focus on supporting small Irish businesses. Exciting food offerings are in the works and I can't wait to sample.

One of the oldest buildings in Galway, its a great juxtaposition of old and new and a great spot to sip a nice brew as the colder days roll in.

Thanks to everyone who has bought a bag of Luno so far, it means so much.

Hey peeps! I've been a bit quiet on here of late so wanted to post a lil update.

I probably underestimated how hectic a new little arrival would make things (beautiful baby boy opposed to a beautiful piece of coffee machinery).

So there has been a bit less time to roast and for all things coffee related.

However...

•A website is in the works

•Roast profiles are being tweaked and improved

•Different varietals and processing methods are being tested

•Labels and bags are in the haus

•Photos and video will generally become more polished thanks to the silkey skills of @marcousnolan

•Bags of Luno Coffee will soon be available in a very special space in Galway

Sunny days at the microroastery 🌞

It's been fantastic to get some feedback on the first few roasts.

As a lone operator and novice roaster, it's important that I get as much feedback as possible to remove my own bias and to broaden my palate and taste preferences.

Its also been cool to hear about the various brewing methods people have been using which can show the coffee in a completely different light, for example, cold brew and moka pot, which are methods I rarely use but adore.

The Washed Colombian Castillo from El Tambo, sourced by @88graines went down a treat as the guest bean for a cheeky last minute Dublin collaboration with @off_the_rails_coffee

It was class linking up with my old pal @gobbledigoober and felt quite surreal seeing my coffee out in the world.

I'm heading on a little break now but will be back , trying to crack the roasting code in jig time.

Great day out researching the best coffee the UK has to offer with my old pal @colin__kelly.

Some huge inspiration for the LuNo project.

A personal highlight was sampling coffees from Nigeria & Sierra Leone for the first time from @liima.coffee.
