#maedaytulip is available @maedayrescue She’s about 2 1/2 years old but has younger vibes. She’s dog friendly, medium energy, crate trained, house trained, & sweet. Challenges: she has high prey drive so does fine in quiet neighborhoods when out in a walk but struggles in busy environments. This is only when out on walks. At home she’s peaceful and can entertain herself with toys as long as she gets exercise. She has been bounced around in 5 different homes including the shelter so she needs a patient family that will 1. Build trust the first month 2. Provide structure and continue to work on impulse control 3. Be patient on walks and understand that successful walks will not be in high traffic areas (no busy parks or coffee shops) but start in your driveway or your block. Build a connection FIRST so she can hear you. She’s a good listener when not overwhelmed.

Lady (#A2272701) is an affectionate, gentle 8-year-old girl. She arrived at the shelter un-spayed with a male dog friend. Ace has already been fostered, and we sure hope Lady’s ticket outta’ here will come soon! Lady was evaluated by a professional trainer and passed a behavioral assessment that allows her to participate in a training program with children. We encourage you to attend her K9YA (@k9youthalliance) graduation tomorrow (Friday 7/31) or watch the recording of Lady with her young trainer. In training sessions with other dogs about 8’ away, Lady maintains focus on her handlers and is not reactive. Lady is so friendly and mellow and would make a wonderful companion in a house or apartment.

Lady has participated in multiple DPFL playgroups without issue. However, she has also engaged in a dog fight (no injuries) that required handlers to intervene. She would benefit from a home that is able to keep her separate from other dogs, at least while she decompresses and we learn more about her. As a K9YA graduate, she is eligible for a free 90 min session with K9YA’s highly qualified trainer.

This DOG! He is unreal and looking for his forever home. I’ve fostered him for about a month now and am totally in love but know it wouldn’t be fair for me to keep him when I go back to work.

He is super small (10lbs)
loves to cuddle
Super smart (he can sit on command now)
Does wonderful in his crate during the day and in the car.
Loves to play with other dogs (1 on 1 is his fave.)
Enjoys a nap (like 5 a day)
Takes his chew stick around the yard to show it all his spots.
Enjoys sleeping in and going back to bed after his breakfast.

These 6 dogs were rescued from @friendsofnorthcentralshelter last week just before the holiday weekend by @maedayrescue They are all in loving foster homes and have all been to the vet. If you would like to Foster for Maeday Rescue, please fill out an application if you would like to make a donation to help out with these expenses it would be much appreciated. Thank you @salty_bunzz for reaching out about the 3 Shih Tzu’s. I don’t think anybody was looking at them. All 6 of these dogs are adorable and I am so grateful that they are safe thanks to Maeday Rescue.There are so many dogs still waiting at your local high kill shelters. Please go visit. I usually do not include toys in my play groups but Bruno found it and introduced it. These dogs are well socialized and know how to give & take corrections. They gravitate towards push and pull mixed with rough and rowdy play styles. They know how to give & take hard corrections amongst each other so I allowed it but was ready to intervene as needed.

#maedaymanicotti is.an 8 year old spaniel mix that was rescused by @maedayrescue from South LA Shelter. He is a confident guy that wants to be with his family 24.7. He will thrive with a family of 1 or ? That will provide structure and continue to allow him to be alone throughout the day to avoid separation anxiety. He sleeps in a crate at night and goes in his crate when I leave for work. He loves walks and enjoys having a routine. He heats up quickly so we take water with us when it’s over 75.
Manicotti is a great companion. He’s really only interested in his person and is neutral around everything else. He has no problems correcting pushy dogs so dog parks are not ideal but play groups with dogs you know are great.
He has a stocky build and loves to eat so we give him veggies and a lean diet to avoid unhealthy weight.

Parker-
Senior dog life is similar to senior humans-
The message from your bladder to your brain gets short and you might tinko in bed. Vision and depth perception can be challenging. There’s no shortage of joint discomfort and arthritis. Cognitive decline is real. A lot of your favorite meals don’t appeal to you anymore. Potentially some depression but some time in the sun with your loved one will boost your mood. There’s lots of support so it’s important to not settle into the mind set of “he’s just old and these are old dog problems.”
For dogs- there’s physical therapy, PEMF tools, supplements and medications.The most important part is having someone guide you through it all. The currency is time. If you don’t have the financial means, you can still navigate a lot of it by taking your time to take good care of them and pay attention to their changing needs.

Lorenzo’s first day joining our play group. He came last week but was anxious about being apart from his family so we took some baby steps: Today the focus was building trust so Lorenzo would feel safe and not attempt to scale my fence. My goal was to be in a position to drop his leash and hopefully remove it We started out by doing leash work and then went on a walk. He wouldn’t take treats. Lorenzo wasn’t ready for the crate so he went with me to pick up another canine. Lorenzo was anxious about it & did not like using a seatbelt but I let him work through the anxiety and he was relaxed 1/2 way home. He met four dogs one on one before I dropped him in the playgroup. We made sure to get some crate time in so he had a full day experience. It was rewarding to see Lorenzo drop his suitcase and kick off his shoes and enjoy the fruits at Adam’s 🤍house. Structure and clear communication paves the path. He enjoyed bison freeze dried bits at the end and even gave me a kiss 💋😃. See you tomorrow buddy.

He was Euth listed at Devore Shelter and adopted on his last day.
