Lady (#A2272701) is an affectionate, gentle 8-year-old girl. She arrived at the shelter un-spayed with a male dog friend. Ace has already been fostered, and we sure hope Lady’s ticket outta’ here will come soon! Lady was evaluated by a professional trainer and passed a behavioral assessment that allows her to participate in a training program with children. We encourage you to attend her K9YA (@k9youthalliance) graduation tomorrow (Friday 7/31) or watch the recording of Lady with her young trainer. In training sessions with other dogs about 8’ away, Lady maintains focus on her handlers and is not reactive. Lady is so friendly and mellow and would make a wonderful companion in a house or apartment.

Lady has participated in multiple DPFL playgroups without issue. However, she has also engaged in a dog fight (no injuries) that required handlers to intervene. She would benefit from a home that is able to keep her separate from other dogs, at least while she decompresses and we learn more about her. As a K9YA graduate, she is eligible for a free 90 min session with K9YA’s highly qualified trainer.

🩷 Please share, offer to foster for a rescue, or pledge. If you’re interested in adopting Lady and giving her the love and care that she needs, come to @friendsofnorthcentralshelter and ask a volunteer to meet her.

UPDATE: Titan was ADOPTED 🎉🎉There are absolutely fantastic dogs that sit for months in our shelters. Unfortunately, this has been the fate of sweet senior boy Titan. He is now one of our longest residents. Over fourth of July a kind human gave Titan a week break from the shelter. Thank you to his foster! She was able to give us a lot of information on how Titan is in a home, and it was what we thought— he’s an absolute treasure.

His foster mom said he is the sweetest boy and loves to be near his person. He is an excellent adventure buddy— he will run with you, hike with you, ride in the car with you, but he will also sit with you while you binge watch your favorite show. He has a medium energy level and loves fetch but gets tired after a few bouts. He only knows ‘sit’ and ‘paw’, but he is smart, treat motivated and eager to please and has the potential to learn more! He can pull on the leash, but it seems to come more from excitement. Because he has been so responsive, leash work would be something that would benefit him and he would probably enjoy. Titan does struggle with separation anxiety, fortunately he is just a vocal baby and is not destructive, but we would like him to be in a home with people who have experience with the husky breed or have helped a dog through separation anxiety before.

Titan has been a model citizen at the shelter, he has been given the ‘rockstar’ designation in playgroup, is tolerant, social, and his play style is ‘gentle dainty’ and ‘push-pull’. Volunteers love him, our liaisons love him, and we know someone out there is going to love our Titan as much as we do. Please share this post so Titan can find his person.

ADOPTED 7/31🎉🎉

🆘UPDATE 7/30: NOW EUTH ALERTED‼️Needs adoption/foster/rescue by TUES 08/04 EOD‼️

8 months is too long to wait by a kennel door for a family that is never coming back😢

Gunner should be someone’s cherished companion. He is the type of dog who will wait eagerly at the door for your return, ready for head scratches, a game of fetch, or to gently place his paw in your hand when you just need a little comfort.

Sadly, this 2-year-old chocolate & caramel boy has been waiting at the shelter for nearly 8 months- surrendered in November ‘25 - when his family moved and couldn’t take him, and kennel confinement is wearing heavily on our friend.
The stress has caused him to lose weight, and he seems to beg every passing person to please look his way.

Gunner was raised with kids and other dogs since he was a puppy. His previous owners shared that he was house-trained and crate-trained. He lived mostly outdoors and was protective when strangers approached. His favorite hobby was playing with a basketball🥹

Gunner, who we have come to know and love, is a connected, friendly, and trainable boy who loves rolling in the grass with a toy and splashing in the doggy pool.
In shelter playgroups, he is social and enjoys rowdy and chase play, with female dogs especially. He can be less tolerant of some male dogs, but is noted to be steerable.

We adore Gunner and hate seeing him passed over for so long when he deserves so much better! ❤️‍🩹 Please help him to leave kennel life behind for a loving home! DM us to meet him or visit North Central today!
Please SHARE and repost so his person can finally find him💛

ADOPTED 🎉🎉🎉

🚨 JELLY'S DEADLINE 3/24 TUESDAY (EOD)‼️
Jelly is a 2-year-old who brings a smile just like the sweet, whimsical dessert he’s named after! 💛🧡💙

He came to the shelter as a stray in December and has been showing signs of kennel stress. Who could blame him?
For that alone caused him to be scheduled to lose his life 💔

Jelly is a young pup - playful, affectionate and incredibly smart!
He’s been selected as a participant in @k9youthalliance Enrichment Training, which just recently began.

***VIDEO CORRECTION: During assessment for K9YA Enrichment Training, Jelly was tested for: Unexpected touch, Unexpected sound, Handling of paws and ears, Restraint, Treat motivation, behavior on leash with another dog present at as close as 6 feet away, and others.

In playgroups with other dogs at the shelter, his descriptions include "social, playful with social dogs, mellow, jumpy, mouthy, steerable, appropriate corrections, appropriate greetings". He did AMAZING when tested with a SMALL DOG.

Sadly...
Not only Jelly will NOT get to complete his K9YA training, he's scheduled to lose his life this TUESDAY 3/24 (end of day) 💔

How to help Jelly? 🙌
• SHARE: Let's have Jelly be SEEN!
• COMMENT: Leave a comment to help boost his visibility!
• PLEDGE: Rescues need financial support when rescuing a dog. A pledge is a promise to donate a specific amount if a rescue pulls the dog from the shelter. It's a donation made AFTER the dog leaves the shelter with a rescue (usually rescues post a freedom-post)
• OFFER TO FOSTER FOR A RESCUE: Provide a temporary home while the rescue works on Jelly's next chapter!

Jelly deserves a whimsical chance at LIFE! 💛🧡💙

RIP💔so very sorry, friend

🆘Handsome Gizmo is EUTH ALERTED and needs adoption or rescue by SAT 3/21 EOD at North Central LA shelter‼️

Gizmo is a soul who is struggling & URGENTLY needs our help. Volunteers have been working with him and seen improvement! He barks when you approach his kennel, but if you talk to him, he calms and will sit upon request. The shelter is overwhelming for this young boy, and now due to his behavior in the kennel, he is EUTH ALERTED and has a very short time to make it out!

Gizmo was surrendered on Feb 18th. His owner cited aggression as the reason, but left no notes. If you saw his original intake photo, you would see a terrified boy abandoned in this unfamiliar place.
Volunteers who’ve worked with Gizmo, have found him to be independent- he enjoys exploring the yard and pool time- but also very treat motivated and eager to show off his ‘sit,’ ‘shake,’ & ‘down’ for treats! He has started to welcome gentle pets and will sit near his handler.

Gizmo has only been in a couple playgroups at the shelter (he has been under treatment for diarrhea recently). Noted to be anxious and wary in his 1st playgroup, but in the 2nd playgroup he had bouts of play with social dogs. Noted to be hard to steer when sexually motivated also (not yet neutered). Slow, monitored intros always suggested when introducing dogs.

Unfortunately, we don’t have any more time to help Gizmo to cope here. He needs an experienced adopter or foster-for-rescue who will give him a safe place to decompress and continue to open up. We believe in the right home, Gizmo has so much potential to grow and thrive. Please help him!❤️‍🩹

Please SHARE!
DM US & visit to meet him!
