It’s #ThrowbackThursday to our April Reel featuring local artists, Juan Navarro @eastsidearthouse @luvmonsterz!

Juan created an incredible mural for RCOE, featured on one of our newer @rcoe_ece offices in downtown Riverside.🎨🫟

The mural tells the story of growing up and moving along the education system. Juan wanted to leave a message through this artwork, one that resembles that of growth and most importantly, building 🧱. Navarro hopes for this mural to not just be about early preschool to 12th grade, but about lifelong learning 🧠. His creation includes a symbol of the city of Riverside 🍊. And the Victoria Bridge signifies the linking of two destinations between a student and their education 🎓.

👀👀 Read more of this story to learn about one of his supporters, an art teacher at Ramona High School, and the symbolism within every image of the mural.

🎨 Riverside Artist Spotlight: Juan Navarro

Born and raised on Riverside’s Eastside, Juan Navarro has dedicated his life to telling our city’s stories through art. What started as creating custom artwork for friends has grown into more than 30 largescale murals that celebrate Riverside’s history, culture, and neighborhoods.

What makes Juan’s work so special is that it isn’t just about painting walls, it’s about bringing people together. He works alongside students, families, and neighbors to create murals that reflect the people and stories of each community.

As the first Artist-in-Residence at the Riverside Art Museum’s Eastside program, The Branch, Juan has helped transform public spaces while mentoring the next generation of artists. His impact even reached the White House in 2023 when he joined the museum as it received the National Medal for Museum and Library Service.

Today, through Eastside Arthouse, Juan continues to invest in Riverside by creating opportunities for emerging artists and proving that art has the power to inspire, unite, and strengthen a community.

Thank you, Juan, for making Riverside more beautiful one mural at a time. ❤️🎨
