A final look at Minimal Legends, which came to a close this weekend in Venice. It was a great pleasure for LVH Art to collaborate with @vdecotiis and the @vincenzodecotiisfoundation on this exceptional exhibition, bringing together works by some of the most significant figures of Minimalism in dialogue with the work of Vincenzo De Cotiis. Set within the historic Palazzo Giustinian Lolin, the exhibition created a distinctive conversation between art, architecture, material and space. Our sincere thanks to everyone involved in bringing Minimal Legends to life, and to all those who came to visit the exhibition in Venice. by @lvh_art
Today marks the reopening of Minimal Legends following our summer closure. Staged at the Vincenzo De Cotiis Foundation during the Venice Biennale, Minimal Legends brings together some of the most defining voices in the history of Minimalism and its wider legacy. Rather than presenting a historical survey, the exhibition explores Minimalism as a living language — one that continues to shape contemporary artistic practice, material experimentation and spatial perception across generations. Featuring works by Carl Andre, Larry Bell, John Chamberlain, Vincenzo De Cotiis, Dan Flavin, Donald Judd, Imi Knoebel, Sol LeWitt, Robert Mangold, Agnes Martin, John McCracken, Bridget Riley, Mark Rothko, Robert Ryman, Richard Serra and Frank Stella. The exhibition is open by appointment only. To request a visit, please contact minimallegends@decotiis.it. The exhibition runs until 3 October 2026. Location: Vincenzo De Cotiis Foundation, Palazzo Giustinian Lolin, San Marco, Venice. by @lvh_art

This month, we had the incredible pleasure of speaking with Isabelle d’Ornano, co-founder of Sisley Paris, and her daughter Christine d’Ornano, Global Vice President of the brand. Beyond their remarkable influence in the world of beauty, both share a deep passion for art and a longstanding commitment to artistic patronage. In our conversation, they offer a personal insight into their collecting journeys, their enduring connection to the art world, and the ways in which creativity and culture continue to shape the vision of Sisley Paris. Francis Bacon’s paintings often feel inseparable from the people who shaped his life, and Three Portraits (1973) brings three of those relationships into a single work. Seen here in the 1980s San Francisco home of Doug Tompkins, founder of The North Face, the triptych brings together George Dyer, Bacon himself and Lucian Freud. Each face appears unstable and in motion, pushed beyond straightforward portraiture into something more intimate and psychologically charged. Dyer, Bacon’s former lover, is shown after his death, while Freud represents one of the artist’s most important friendships and creative relationships. With Bacon positioned between them, the work reads almost like a compressed map of his personal world. Three Portraits is now held in the Esther Grether Collection in Basel and has been included in many major Bacon exhibitions. by @lvh_art
LVH Art sits down with Catalan-born, London-based painter Marc Prats-Quintana to discuss the ideas and processes that shape his practice. From the shifting nature of memory to the material presence of painting, the conversation traces the literary and artistic references that continue to inform his work. In our latest LVH Art Journal article, How Brazil Became a Design Powerhouse, we looked at the designers and architects who helped shape Brazil’s distinctive modernist identity. Among them was Jorge Zalszupin, the Polish-born architect and designer who moved to Brazil after the Second World War and became one of the defining figures of Brazilian modern design. His work brought together sculptural forms, exceptional craftsmanship and the expressive possibilities of Brazilian woods. Casa Zalszupin in São Paulo was designed by Zalszupin in 1960, built in 1962, and remained his home until his death in 2020. Conceived as both a residence and a place of experimentation, the house reflects the same meeting of Brazilian and Scandinavian influences that defined much of his work. Today, the house continues this legacy as Casa Zalszupin, a cultural space dedicated to preserving and sharing his heritage and the wider history of Brazilian design through research, documentation, exhibitions and other cultural programmes. B Townhouse on New York’s Upper East Side has a distinctive cultural history. The former carriage house was once home to Larry Gagosian and was previously transformed by architect François de Menil, establishing it as a notable address within the city’s art world. More recently, Nicolas Schuybroek Architects reimagined the residence for a collector, creating a refined setting in which exceptional art and design sits alongside restrained, minimalist interiors. Schuybroek described his approach: “Art was never treated as an endpoint; it actively shaped circulation, proportion, and moments of pause. The house became a shared composition between architecture, art, and lived experience.” Photography by Adrian Gaut. Image 1: The living room, featuring a painting by Rashid Johnson. Robert Mangold is a central figure in postwar American abstraction and the development of Minimalism, known for paintings grounded in geometric structure and restraint. Emerging in New York in the 1960s alongside artists such as Donald Judd, Sol LeWitt and Dan Flavin, Mangold rejected subjective gesture and illusionism in favour of a pared-back visual language focused on line, plane and contour. His shaped canvases and multi-panel constructions challenged the conventional rectangular format, while New York itself influenced his interest in fragmented views, gaps and incomplete forms. Mangold’s work ‘Four Color Frame Painting #13’ (1985) is included in ‘Minimal Legends’ at the Vincenzo De Cotiis Foundation. In this work, he pushes this investigation beyond the conventional limits of the canvas. His Frame Paintings, begun in 1983, are composed of separate canvases joined to form a rectangular perimeter around an empty centre. This central void becomes an essential part of the composition, incorporating the wall behind the work and blurring the boundary between painting and its surrounding space. by @lvh_art
‘Zoom’ (1988–1992) by John McCracken (image 2) is included in Minimal Legends at the Vincenzo De Cotiis Foundation in Venice, on view through 3 October 2026. John McCracken’s work sits at the intersection of Minimalism and the California Light and Space movement, combining radically reduced geometric forms with luminous colour and immaculate, reflective surfaces. By the mid-1960s, McCracken had developed the form that would become synonymous with his practice: the plank. Leaning between floor and wall, these elongated monochromatic works blur the boundaries between painting, sculpture and architecture. As McCracken explained: “They do kind of bridge both worlds; they are sculptures really, and they stand or whatever in the world of sculpture. They touch the floor, but they also touch the wall, which is more the realm of painting. So they literally partake in both worlds, both kinds of things.” Their simplicity gives them an almost timeless, monolithic presence. McCracken himself connected them to much older architectural forms: “My work is obviously related to architectural models of the past—Stonehenge, Egyptian temples, pyramids, and various other structures in history past and present.” With their highly polished surfaces, intense colour and deceptively simple geometry, McCracken’s planks became one of the most iconic forms to emerge from 1960s California and a defining contribution to Minimalism. The final image offers a glimpse into McCracken’s process: despite the works’ seemingly industrial precision, he fabricated them himself, using hand and power tools before repeatedly sanding and polishing their surfaces to achieve their immaculate, machine-like finish. by @lvh_art
