For another last minute "date night" (our favorite kind!) we went to see the Ibsen play, "Enemy of The People" brilliantly adapted and directed by Bart De Lorenzo at The Odyssey Theater in W. LA. The original subject matter was altered only slightly but maintained Ibsen's universal theme about the costs associated with choosing between responding or delaying response to an unwanted scientific truth. The ensemble was excellent and the present day dialogue was tight and relevant. A highly recommended night of theater. "Enemy of the People" runs through September 27!

Very sad to hear of the passing of the amazing composer, conductor, orchestrator, and arranger, Nick Glennie Smith. A man with a big heart and incredible ears. Whether he was on the podium or in the booth he was a great leader and collaborator. All the best to his friends and family. by @lx1234

Joe has inspired three generations of trombonists around the world. His abilities as a musician, educator and spokesperson for the instrument are immeasurable. Thanks to him, the ability level of players in every stage of development has grown significantly. He has also raised the level of respect for the trombone and expanded the repertoire for the instrument.

He has fully embraced his public responsibility associated not only with his position as a principal player in a major orchestra, but as an internationally recognized soloist and spokesperson. He represents the trombone world's standard for orchestral playing while he continues to explore and and advance new music in solo and chamber settings.

I've observed Joe "do his thing" like this numerous times and I always learn so much! His masterclass, mini recital and QandA yesterday at The Colburn School delivered once again, with a roomful of young men and women trombonists getting great advice, hearing top tier playing and walking away with numerous ideas and sounds to directly apply to their daily practice and to expand their overall outlook as developing artists (myself included!)

And yes, I came straight home and practiced for two hours (including Arban's articulation exercises and Blazevitch etudes).

Special thanks to John Snell , Noah Gladstone, Bob Reeves Mouthpieces and the Colburn School (Mike Zonshine!) and Shires musical Instruments for sponsoring this incredible free event! by @lx1234
