At the end of 2025 we decided to do a full blown test recording session at Hollywood Scoring to make full use of our entire facility and try out recording different ensembles in isolation in both of our live rooms at the same time (aka “live striping”)

We thought that Michael Barry’s most recent transcription of the original score for Tom and Jerry’s “Pet Peeve”, a cartoon from 1954 by Scott Bradley, which was previously lost to time. Mike transcribed the whole score by ear and reconstructed it from scratch, so we thought it would be fitting to see how close we could get to the original recording and possibly improve it. At the same time, what an opportunity to showcase the incredible musical talent of Los Angeles! The most complicated cartoon score we could possibly find was fully recorded in just 2 hours, tracked tutti but isolated!

With some extra time in the session, Edouard Brenneisen composed a totally different modern soundscape using the same ensemble as another test. All hands on deck, Adam Michalak recorded and mixed all in-house with edit support from Keith Ukrisna and I had the special job of handpicking and contracting all of these incredible players, each for their artistry they bring to this virtuosic style of performance.

We’re thrilled with the results.
We hope you enjoy this short presentation, thank you for your attention in this matter! Noah and the HWS team!

Ended this year’s summer— the best yet!—with what has been my most fruitful and rewarding musical journey so far.

• MID JUNE: Third consecutive year as a participant with the @clevelandtromboneseminar held at Ohio University in Athens, OH. 🪊
• EARLY JULY: Performed with the Ohio Collegiate All-Stars Brass Band of @allstarbrassbands at the Warner Theatre in DC during Independence Day weekend as part of the 250th Celebration. 🇺🇸🎆 Great way to celebrate the 250 😃 albeit extremely hot and humid, which is understating it believe me 🥵
• MID AUGUST: First year in @la.fci ‘s Studio Intensive, where I had the privilege to perform and record awesome film music repertoire with the Studio Intensive Orchestra in the historic Barbra Streisand Scoring Stage in the John Williams Music Building, at Sony Pictures Entertainment in Culver City, CA. 🎬🎶

So thankful for the experiences I’ve gained and the people I met! Sad that I can’t tag everyone because the tag limit is 20. If I met and know you and you’re not tagged, you’re awesome!!

We play our best when our understanding and execution of fundamental trombone playing, music theory, and ear training all work together. Flow Studies offers targeted exercises for:

* Triads and seventh chords
* Common classical and jazz progressions
* Scales
* Intervals

Designed for the developing high school trombonist and beyond, this book provides valuable opportunities to enhance air control and strengthen your overall musicianship.

Whether you are exploring classical, jazz, or other genres, Flow Studies is an essential addition to your music library!

“Brian’s series of studies lays out a beautiful way to encourage players to maintain musical flow not only as trombonists and brass players, but as musicians who wish to be more authentic and clear in every musical situation. Practicing these exercises will develop your ears and overall musicianship as much as they develop airflow and chops.”
