Happy IWD! Excited to share that I’m showing my work alongside incredible Malaysian artists this month at @temuhouse from 8th March to 6th April (weekends only).

‘Growing Together, Not Too Soon’ is a Visual Art Exhibition in support of the Students Not Brides 2025 Mobilisation Campaign to End Child Marriage in Malaysia @students_not_brides

Grateful to be part of this important cause. Proceeds of sales will go towards the Students Not Bride 2025 Mobilisation Campaign. Come visit if you’re around!

HELD TOGETHER, BY TIME (2024) reflects on the act of repetition, repair, and reflection. This piece emerged from a period of crossroads, contemplation, and transition—particularly the recent experience of moving between places and returning home—where thoughts are channeled through my hands and into the making. The stitched marks and floating fibres echo the quiet passage of time, while the gradients moving across the surface mirror the slow transformations of life—how moments fade, deepen, and evolve into new understandings. 🪡 taken in TEMU by @lydiak0k

did a couple of interesting experiments using SMA (shape memory alloy) to make my knitted forms wiggle and breathe

tho it requires a substantial amount of energy source to make a noticeable movement, it’s still a fascinating piece of wire! 🌀 taken in London, United Kingdom by @lydiak0k

Lydia Kok is a multidisciplinary designer exploring the interconnected relationships between humanity and the environment through material and visual narratives. Her ongoing series, ‘Can You Feel The Pulse of this Planet?’ imagines a world shaped by the rhythmic nuances of nature and adaptive characteristics, sparking thoughts on interesting biological responses incited by changing climates. Inspired by her personal connection with nature through her outdoor experiences such as hiking and scuba diving, she observes and documents her musings across diverse landscapes, creating a body of work rich in textures and colours in harmony with their surroundings.

Lydia expresses narratives about the delicate balance of ecosystems through her work and choice of medium, aspiring to foster curiosities while developing a hopeful and playful connection between people and nature.

As an extension to my fictional El Khemie world, I partnered with textile specialist @lydiak0k to develop a full business proposal of a seasonal floating dye vessel. The proposal was one of the 20 UK projects shortlisted for Terra Carta Design Lab, a global competition launched by His Majesty King Charles III in 2021 to seek and fund high-impact and commercially viable solutions to address the damage being done to our planet. We spent a good part of this year undergoing mentorship from @innovationRCA, doing market research, engaging various parties from the industry and fine-tuning our financial projections.
This is a multi-faceted project that encompasses way more than natural dyeing textiles. There are many hoops to jump through, but it has been a fruitful adventure for us thus far. As we continue to navigate in the markets for sustainable ventures, we welcome any interested parties and investors with a common vision to join us on this journey to realise the seasonal floating dye vessel! 🌿🌷🌺🌾🪻🌹🌼🌻🌸🌞

sharing about what I did at my residency at Crete, Greece with @periplusworkshops in July this year

inspired by the big avocado tree in the local primary school’s compound, I conceptualised a placemaking installation to wrap the tree with intricate handwoven macrame combined with climbing holds made from the tree’s fallen waste. I was genuinely so moved to hear from the locals that the kids growing up in Alikianós have such a playful and nature-filled childhood. They loved climbing this giant avocado tree during recess time and I simply wanted to create something that nurtures the activity 🌳

thank you Dimitris, @ellie_skourogianni & team for hosting us wonderfully, missing the good fun I had at the villa with my fellow artists and designers!

Had the opportunity to speak at a panel discussion with my talented peers @hannahzbitnew @rosehinami_archive & @nique_lnzzz about Symbiotic Intimacies, exploring interconnectedness within our practices.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who joined us last weekend and big kudos to my amazing cohort for their incredible work!! 🌟

photos from little hands to steady hands during our e-textile workshop at @gardensbythebay last weekend!

so grateful to family & friends who showed up to support, and to all the new faces who stopped by with curiosity and open minds. what really stayed with us was seeing parents encouraging their kids to pick up a needle and stitch for the first time to learn basic circuitry!

we had participants as young as 4!! honestly so special to witness

this was also our first time experimenting with a shorter, walk-in format, and it’s given us a lot to think about for what’s next

if you’re looking to bring a different kind of STEAM workshop and learning programme to your space, drop us a message! We’d love to build something with you ✌🏼 taken in Gardens by the Bay by @lydiak0k

what started as an intimidating couple activity initiated by Wilson somehow became one of the craziest side quests of 2025. A few days before the race Wilson had a fracture on his left arm and we genuinely thought we might have to DNF. But we didn’t!!!

not the timing we aimed for, but I’m glad we pushed through and finished. Watching him crush the single arm reps (esp for wall balls) literally blew my minddd. I walked away with so much newfound respect for adaptive athletes bc their grit is something else!

we also had thoughtful colour matching race fits and I did some simple graphics inspired by photographed leaf shadows on pavements that somehow looked like popping veins~ a soft reminder of calm before it transpires into sharp adrenaline 💥
